This is my second stay at Vacationland, Brewer ME in 7yrs-- it has definitely changed along with my experience. Breakfast is very good, limited I felt, but good. Location is convenient, centrally located and I felt safe walking around after dark.
It is in need of fresh paint, what look to be minor repairs / updates throughout and cob webs swept down in the halls / room.
Our stay was Mon - Sat: after checking in, I requested the floor be swept & mopped, it felt gritty and was visibly dirty. By checkout on Sat, no one had addressed it. Fresh towels were replenished once all week, in room coffee was replenished once all week and the beds were never made all week. At one point on day 3, while we were out, the shower curtain rod fell down - we put it back up ourselves since it already appeared the room wasn't receiving service.
I believe this may be a partially 'resident' hotel based on a conversation with a few others in drive up rooms.

please know what you are getting yourself into before showing up or booking. my boyfriend & i came for work as we travel & they quoted us $690 total with $200 deposit. the condition of the place isn’t worth any deposit. they gave us two twin beds when we asked for a queen upon making a reservation. as soon as we walked into our room it smelled so bad. not even 15 minutes of being there i saw two roaches crawling on the floor. we left right away & i went up to the front desk & asked for a refund. the receptionist didn’t say a word to me just asked for the key back. not even anything sincere which is what upset me the most. this place is not worth it.

Should be a $60 a night hotel. Very poor. Was $168 including tax. Pay the extra money to stay someplace else. Management, with what you charge the rooms could be much better. Low end place.

When I had a problem with our air conditioner, we returned at the end of the day with a brand-new one in around that they placed. Fantastic service on everything I asked for. They accommodated us to make us as comfortable as possible! A+ A+ A+!

Check in was smooth and staff were really friendly and accommodating. Breakfast was very good. The rooms were clean but tired. We would stay again but only for a single night. Longer stays we would find a different location.

We went up to Castine to pick up our collage student for a fun weekend but unfortunately our car had other plans so we had to stop at the nearest place. They where so helpful and all the staff is very kind. Our room was very nice and the breakfast was amazing I will tell you it does cost them a little for a breakfast like that. We left tips both times we ate, sad to say not many people did, I also tipped my room cleaner she did a wonderful job making sure we had enough coffee and personal care products. We would definitely stay agin. Thank you

A great location whether you're exploring north or south of the area. A great value. Don't expect the Ritz Carlton but any child of the 70s or 80s whose taken a family road trip will immediately be transported back to those days where there wasn't a hotel chain on every corner and small, quant motels is where you stayed.

Rooms: Get what you pay for.
Nearby activities: Bowling, shopping, restaurants, on the local transit.
Safety: Medical services near, less than a mile??
Walkability: Walk to everything I just mentioned.
Food and drinks: Great restaurant 20 steps away from exit of my room there.

Rooms are not quality—something to expect in a cheap motel. Shoddy repairs, drop tile, tiny bathrooms (with very little warm water), and few amenities. I also see some hair in the bed, suggesting it was not cleaned.
Breakfast had almost no protien, and no fresh fruit (tiny, unripe apples). Also witnessed that management was rude to staff. Staff appear to be trying their best, and are friendly enough.
I understand that you get what you pay for, and this is one of the cheaper spots in the area, but I don't think I will be returning.
