Stopped in Castine to see the town. Had a bite to eat at The Breeze and Castine Variety. I was very pleased with the food. It was delicious. Everything I ordered was excellent and I was greeted with kindness and a wonderful ambiance. Thank you to Kermit and Chef Snow for making my short stay in Castine a very pleasant, delicious, and memorable experience. On my next trip back, I am definitely hoping to see them again and eat there once more to make another delicious and delightful memory. Thank you again!!!

I love this place! Friendly staff and amazing food that you can’t get in just any store. Come try the Kona Coffee for example. I usually don’t like drinking coffee black, but this particular coffee is so subtle, yet bold, that it’s a smooth even flavor throughout the whole cup! The curry is to die for too.

Great spot for fresh seafood lunch just across from the docks. Impressive menu for such a small place but food prepared well and service was efficient.

Fish & chips, as well as lobster salad were good, however there were other concerns throughout the meal that I chose to share with the gentleman who served us. Expired ketchup (likely spent too long unrefrigerated), a bad lemon wedge (dry, grey/brown interior) and the many large houseflies that we routinely batted away from our meals contribute to this 2 star rating.Had the gentleman who I expressed this to acknowledged and responded with appreciation for my sharing, stated some level of concern, they would not have received this review.Unfortunately, after letting him know these 3 things plainly, he replayed "oh so you had big expectations?" to which I replied "certainly not, just basic ones."There were several other parties seated at the same time as us, so as a former server I understand this, but he did not check in on us after dropping the food at the table. I would have tried to amend at least the expired ketchup & dry/bad lemon wedge during the meal, but alas was not given the chance.

Not good. Surly service and overpriced disgusting food. Served us green and undercooked "fried" clam strips that was soft, mushy, and soggy. If no other restaurant is open then go across the street to the market and buy something.

My husband and I stopped here to eat - it was our first time in Castine. The food was fantastic! I had the fish and chips, which was hands down the best fish and chips that I've ever had.Our server was very friendly and the eatery was clean and welcoming.

Lobster Benedict from scratch with real hollandaise... need I say more?I only wish they would put away the extra piles of t-shirts and open up the service counter for a much more inviting atmosphere.

Great place to get coffee and pastries in the morning. Stopped in for lunch also. My wrap was very good and they had a good variety of seafood and sandwiches to chose from

The Breeze-Castine Variety is a unique corner diner right in the heart of Castine. ----Parking: in-town parking can be spotty. Sometimes you get a spot right in front and other times you'll have to walk the steep hill. I found a spot right out front. ----Ordering: a bit overwhelming. The Menu is on two different chalkboards and it's difficult to read. There are a LOT of choices and it's all written on a blackboard. So, upon entering, you have to stare at the chalkboard in the back of the room. There are not really a lot of people in there so ordering is pretty quick. I wish there was a paper menu to look at; just a tip OR make the writing clearer on the chalkboard. Note: I've found the hours of operation very spotty in the Spring. When the college is in session, parking in Castine is a nightmare. The college kids take up all the spots so I avoid going to local shops; sad really. ----The Food: On one occasion, I ordered the Crab Roll. It was good. Note: they add, I think, Old Bay to the mix, which in my opinion overpowers the flavour of the Maine crabmeat but it was still good; 3 Stars. On another occasion, I ordered the Fish Fry: it was one piece of haddock(?)/white fish. Sadly, it was a bit overcooked but still edible. The fries for both dishes were hot and delicious as was the cole slaw that comes with each. ----Overall: it's pretty good. I don't care for the chalkboard menu in the back. The food is pretty good. I will come back.

We stayed down the road for a week and stopped in for dinner first, then went back multiple times for breakfast, cold drinks, and excellent espresso. We absolutely loved the place. Kermit and Snow were warm and welcoming. I am perplexed by the negative reviews here; we found the food and the fun drinks (Thai iced coffee, Hawaiian iced tea) absolutely delicious - fresh ingredients and well-seasoned. Some coast of Maine standards (lobster, fried seafood, blueberry pancakes) but also a few surprising menu items, like curry. Eclectic, fun, and delicious!
