At the end of the 2023 season, we were able to make a one night reservation at the last minute. The Inn did not disappoint! The owners were warm and welcoming, and we enjoyed our stay immensely. There was a slight hiccup with our bill, and in the end it was over-corrected, so that we owed the Inn for oysters and drinks. The Inn refused to let us pay the money back! Castine is a charming seaside town. Our only disappointment was the lack of fall foliage in October :-)

Visit the Pentagoet and experience the outstanding charm and hospitality of this lovely inn on the coast. The views are unbeatable, the menus are delicious and the staff are so lovely. I can’t wait to come back. This little village is a wonderful, welcoming community and just so darn picturesque. This is no chain hotel!! You will be wrapped up in the history and charm of an authentic landmark on the Maine coast. 10/10Walkability: Perfect location, steps to the water, brunch spots, a lighthouse, and cute little shops.Food & drinks: The pub is THE spot on the coast for a vintage, nautical respite after a fun day walking around the town. And dinner was delicious and romantic. You really feel like you’re in the golden age of travel.Noteworthy details: The first floor is stunning with historic charm. The entire inn has books and crannies with antiques, old photographs, and great views! It’s transporting!

I had my rehearsal dinner here and it was a lovely experience! All my guests raved about the food, venue, and service. Matt and George were excellent throughout the whole process answering any questions we had and accommodating any special requests. They even made a customized menu for us! We look forward to revisiting the Pentagoet every time we visit Castine!

Thoroughly enjoyed our week staying at The Pentagoet! From day one, Matt, George and the team went above and beyond - serving a delicious hot dinner by candlelight during a power outage to a full dining room of guests in the midst of a hurricane, the afternoon iced tea and treats on the porch, wonderful suggestions ahead of time for places/areas to visit, even help with a flat tire! Castine and The Pentagoet were a wonderful home base for us as we explored the coast of Maine. Highly recommend a stay here - you will be so glad you did!

We had such a wonderful authentic stay at the Inn and can’t wait to return. We felt connected to the history of this small seaside town and enjoyed coming back to the Pentagoet each night after our day trips out hiking and exploring neighboring towns. Delicious meals and desserts! Great beverage selection at dinner and the cherry on top was the innkeepers and staff were so welcoming and helpful in every way 10 out of 10 recommend a few nights here with day trips to Belfast/Camden/MDI.Rooms: Bed was so comfortable, great water pressure is always a plus the room was just lovely.Food & drinks: Large selection of menu items! It was so impressive to see their dinner service at the inn. We loved the cozy pub and a candlelit dinner with live piano music, a night to remember!

An absolutely wonderful stay. If you require some peace and quiet, this historic and well-preserved inn is the perfect, quaint spot to recharge. Friendly staff, amazing food, and perfect location to walk the sleepy little town of Castine. They're accommodating and go out of their way for your comfort. Cannot wait to return!

Over priced, very small portions, left feeling hungry. Paid $10 for a dried up brownie with a phony French name to it... they corrected me that it is Italian... still dry and puny. The vegetables were either overly mature or under ripened. They wanted to charge extra for small changes in menu items. No bread, small portions, dismissive greeting staff. We paid a lot of money and left feeling hungry and ripped off. Will not go back for dinner. Maybe just drinks and listen to the jazz music... and they do not like receiving honest feedback... they told me to "not come back" after they received this review. A bit too sensitive and "precious" for my taste... definitely NOT going back. I wish them well though.

The Pentagöet is our go-to when we need to celebrate with an elegant meal or connect with friends over cocktails. The new owners have poured their hearts into creating a seasonally-driven menu and weekly cocktail specials to keep it fresh all season. My favorite is the lobster pot pie… yum. Most recently we went to their first wine tasting event which was co-hosted by Blue Hill wine shop and included a generous snack plate and 8 amazing red wines. The hostesses and waitstaff are always friendly and charming even when summer crowds keep them super busy. It’s nice in this tiny town to have a place where we can rely on a consistent excellent experience. ? ?

This is my third time at The Pentagoet because I simply cannot get enough! I love starting in the inn's beautiful pub where they always have a new cocktail of the week. No detail is too small for the innkeepers and staff in this establishment, always ensuring each patron is taken care of and happy. After cocktails, their dinner menu is not to be missed - curated with local flair and the season's best food + produce. I can't wait to come back and will continue to recommend this experience to everyone I know! Thank you Pentagoet!

From the moment you step through the doors of the Pentagoet Inn, the charming nautical-themed interior transports you to a bygone era of seaside inns and taverns. But while the décor delights, it’s the food that steals the show. I started with the local oysters, followed by the lobster linguini…true heaven! The chef clearly takes great pride in using fresh local ingredients to make creative dishes that tantalize the taste buds. However, a restaurant ultimately stands or falls by the quality of its service. Here again, the Pentagoet Inn shines. Our server greeted us warmly and proved extremely knowledgeable about both the menu and the wine pairings. He provided excellent recommendations that enhanced our dining experience. More importantly, the service remained attentive but never obtrusive. For those seeking fine dining in an intimate setting with the added charm of Castine, the Pentagoet Inn is a must. Between the spectacular food, the cozy historic ambiance, and the incredible service, everything combines to create a truly memorable dining experience. I can’t wait to return and sample more of the menu on my next visit to the Castine area! Such a treat!

In this struggling economy you’d think a restaurant in a small village would appreciate any business they get. Not this one! We did not have reservations, but the host acted like we broke one of the Ten Commandments! I told him before we were seated it was my birthday. The entire time there the dining room we were in in was shared with only one other occupied table! THERE WERE 6 EMPTY TABLES THE WHOLE TIME! We were treated like they were there on their suffrage for requesting to dine without a reservation! Regulars with reservations got their food much quicker than we did. The food was excellent if a bit pricey, especially considering the small portions. My husband’s dinner actually came on a salad plate! The $12.00 desserts were served in crème brûlée ramekins! But the crowning insult was the fact that even though I told them it was my birthday, NOT ONCE did anyone bother to tell me, Happy Birthday! REALLY!? WORST BIRTHDAY DINNER EVER!

We spent two nights at the Pentagoet Inn and couldn’t be more pleased with our experience. We arrived at 6:30pm after a long day of travel and sightseeing and Matt greeted us in the lobby as we walked in. He had saved a table for us and the other couple we were traveling with so that we were sure to have dinner if we hadn’t already done so. There’re was live jazz music playing on the veranda. Many guests were enjoying food and drinks inside and outside the Inn. I had a refreshing signature vodka cocktail with muddled blueberries, created by Matt. I also enjoyed a delicious farro and kale salad, topped with feta and blueberries. So fresh and tasty! The self-serve breakfast the next morning was equally tasty, consisting of egg stratas, house-made muffins, yogurt and house made granola along with fresh fruit. Coffee was delivered to a hallway table outside our room at 7:30am.The king-size bed was very comfortable and even though our room was on the street corner of the house, it was quiet and we rested well.We did a day trip to Brooklin and visited the Wooden Boat School. Matt was generous with his tips on where to eat lunch or pick up fixings for a charcuterie picnic. We enjoyed drinks in the pub on our second evening and loved having the chance to chat with Matt and George about the restorations they have done so far and plans for additional enhancements to this historic building this coming winter. The Pentagoet Inn and Castine are truly a slice of heaven on the Maine coast. Don’t hesitate to treat yourself to these beautiful and relaxing accommodations! We hope to return for a longer stay and more exploring of this picturesque area.

Enjoyed dinner and live jazz on the porch. Staff was very welcoming, decor is beautiful and food was delicious. Night and Day trio on a Tuesday evening was a great way to cap off vacation. Can’t wait to return!
