We planned a ten day, first time trip to Maine for October 2023. It was difficult finding lodging at the end of the season and for ten consecutive days in the area. When we contacted Castine Inn, Heather set our minds at ease and worked with us scheduling our stay, as well as detailing sight seeing options that are also featured on the website. The hospitality offered upon arrival by Innkeepers, Deb and Walt, rivaled any we could encounter in our southern state. They serve a delicious continental breakfast of local fruits, yogurt, and handmade muffins and scones that can’t be beat. Updates are being made to the Inn. Our room, #1, in the historic Inn offered charm with cleanliness, adjustable temperature controls, a comfortable bed, and space for our extended stay. All employees allowed us to feel “at home” while being available for requests, which were few. A bar area is perfect for a nightcap. The Inn is located in a safe, convenient area for walking to shops, restaurants, the harbor, and exploring historic buildings. Our experience was so positive, we feel fortunate to have randomly connected with the Inn family for our initial visit to the area. We hope to return!

Do you love old Inns with wonderful people, delicious homemade scones and banana bread every morning with breakfast, being within walking distance of the harbor, quaint restaurants, and historical architecture that takes you back in time? ...then this is the place for you. The only caution we would give...our lovely room was on the 3rd floor and there is no elevator. Frankly, we found that refreshing but we're still agile enough to make the trip. Thank you, Deborah and Walter, you are the best. You are excellent historians, storytellers, travel guides, and just plain fun to be around....as well as able to put up with our eccentricities as we took over a piece of the dining room for 3 days to complete a 1000-piece jigsaw puzzle! We should also give a nod to the friendly bartenders in the pub and the sweet person who RAN ahead of us to our room with all the luggage. It's been a while since we were THAT young! We cannot wait to come back. Thank you so much to all in Castine for a very memorable time.

The inn is a lovely place. The staff are warm and all go out of their way for the guests. The breakfast was not fancy, but it was good. The dining room is and wraparound porch are both beautiful places to spend time. Thank you for a great stay!

My wife and I booked a one night stay for our wedding anniversary. We had room 21 which was marketed as the nicest suite overlooking the harbor. The room was lackluster and the views were distant. Bathroom was dated and awkward - so much so we decided to wait to shower when we got back home. The bed has got to be the worst bed we have ever slept on. Hard as a rock! It was so bad I seriously suggested we leave and go home. We would have had a better nights sleep on the floor. For over $300 for the room we felt scammed. This was a $100 budget stay in reality. The furniture was old and gross. Didn't feel clean. The A/C filter was clogged and it sounded broken when set to the high fan setting. Chipping paint all over the window sills. The scones and muffins in the morning were terrible. They both tasted like they were a mix and not from scratch. The only good thing about our visit was the teaspoon of blueberry jam that came with breakfast and the lemon water in the lobby. Really wanted to share my disappointment in the room with the innkeeper but no staff was in sight when we left.

Quaint is a fair assessment. It is honest and clean but needs a little TLC to get to charming.

We stayed overnight here and thought it was a very good experience. This is a historic building that has been upgraded and has lots of charm but shows uts age. If you expect something different you might look elsrwhere. Our room was large and bright and clean. The staff was courteous and helpful. The breakfast was delicious but without cooked items. The inn is perfectly located on the quiet main street and near the harbor. The town is lovely. small and quiet. Price was reasonable and a good deal.

We stay at this charming inn every summer. Love the antique atmosphere and the garden is a gem. The staff is very accommodating. Castine is a historic and interesting town that is not overrun with tourists. Looking forward to our next stay.

I must have miss read the room description on the website. While our room did have a private bath it was detached from the room. I hope we didn’t wake anyone when we got up in the morning and trekked down the hall. Breakfast was less than amazing. But I’m not a fan of continental breakfast, especially one without eggs. The best part about the inn is the garden on the side. It’s beautiful and I feel possibly under appreciated by guests. The value in the room and overall stay was not commiserate with the cost.Walkability: Located right in downtown Castine you could walk every where.

Had a delightful night and delicious breakfast of warm scones, blueberry muffins, homemade blueberry jam and hot coffee. It was wonderful. The host, Debbie, was so charming and authentically concerned about our stay.Food & drinks: Delicious scones for breakfast and haddock chowder for lunch.

Grossly disappointed in the professionalism and humanity of this establishment. Not a review of the property but a review of the ownership and management. They entered into a contract with us to allow us to park at their establishment. Upon returning to the establishment after the holiday break, the parking lot where we had previously parked was roped off with NO access and no alternate place to park. There was no communication or prior notice given of this drastic change. At a small town institution I would expect better. Wouldn't you??

This trip was intended to be a celebration of our 10th anniversary. Our first time to coastal Maine. The photos of the Castine Inn and location is what made us decide to stay here. Unfortunately, the photos did not translate to a favorable experience at all. Although the lobby and dining room are beautifully decorated and suits the time period it was built, our room was not at all what was expected. First, the floors had stains in many places and had clearly not been replaced in decades. The management stated they had been professionally cleaned but I had a really hard time believing that. Secondly, the bed was probably the most uncomfortable bed I have ever slept on. I might as well have slept on the floor if it was clean. You could feel the springs on the mattress. I was left with back aches literally every day and the Tylenol I brought was the only way I could get through the night. The one positive I can take away from this experience is the management did everything they could to make my stay better, but it was made clear to me that their hands were tied by owners who “cared more about pictures being put on the wall than better beds or new carpeting”. The management did comp me one night as we had to leave one day early after a miserable stay. I thank them for that but I will not return nor would I recommend this place.

Charming older inn in the heart of the beautiful village. Are there some details that could be addressed (I did say older) sure but for anything lacking the hospitality and charm make up for 100 times over. Just an hour from Bar Harbor/Acadia NP we easily did a day trip. Rooms each have their own character and charm, I really liked that we could pick our rooms. Even in October there were lots of blooms in the lovely garden. There are EV charging stations in the back parking lot. Beds could be a little more comfy but the linens are very nice quality. Just a couple of suggestions for the owners……First, give Shelly a raise because she truly makes all the difference and maybe invest in a few updates (carpets in rooms, mattress covers on beds.). If you’re considering a stay…..don’t hesitate and absolutely check out Castine Kayak adventures just down the hill.

I stayed at The Castine Inn for a long weekend this September. The Inn is historic and charming. Lovely sitting rooms with a fireplace and coffee service on the first floor, along with beautiful antiques for sale. The dining room is bright and cheery, with handpainted wall paper. The breakfast spread of homemade muffins, fruit, granola, and yogurt was accompanied by copious hot cups of great coffee. The bed was comfortable, with great sheets and pillows, and the room was charmingly appointed. Lots of windows, with views of the water and the garden, brought in sunshine and air. The bathroom was large -- and I was sorry I didn't have a chance to try out the enticing bathtub. The staff was friendly and attentive. I would definitely stay here again.

We spent three nights in this inn in one of Maine’s most picturesque coastal towns and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The Castine Inn is classically New England with its welcoming front porch overlooking the small town and just a few yards above Penobscot Bay. Our room was so comfortable and the decor is charming. We enjoyed breakfast outside on one sunny morning. The cheerful staff made sure our coffee cups were never empty!

I am from Atlanta and used to the idea of “Southern hospitality”. The Castine Inn is a bastion of “New England hospitality”. Welcoming. Charming. Going out of the way to look out for their guests. Shelly in the dining room serves freshly baked muffins and scones with outsized portions of personality and humor.Castine is a lovely place to gain a sense of relaxed coastal Maine. The Castine Inn only adds to the experience.
