I have had an account here for about 3 years. They are always friendly. They say hello when you come in and goodbye when you leave. The place is spotless. They are so efficient! Amanda is so professional and helpful in determining what type of loan would be best in what situation. We have had the money in our account in a matter of hours each time we have needed a loan. We refinanced our car and went from 12.9% at Maine State Credit Union to 4.75% at MCFU!! We feel so grateful to have MFCU in our community.

I have been a member since the days when the office was up across from the library in Bath, approaching 50 years, all my family members have also done their banking there. My wife died in January, not unexpectedly, she made everything as complete as possible so we wouldn't have to go through Probate. I have dealt with IRS, the State of Maine, Insurance, pension, everything, even the Probate Court and have been received sympathetically, helpfully and pretty stress free. Not so the Credit Union. They have refused checks made out to my wife's estate, demanding proofs that are only available through the Court. The Court provided an affidavit that allows me to represent my wife since there was no Probate. That is the law in the State of Maine, and even when called by the Clerk of the Probate Court to explain why they should, they still refuse. They seem to think Maine law does not apply to them. I guess losing a partner deserves lots of stress, they sure have provided lots.

A woman named Karen... thought it'd be okay for her to give my wife an attitude while she she unprofessionally gave 'budgeting' advice. She does not need budgeting advice. Covid had thrown a wrench into the mix of many people lives and Karen didnt seem to put that into her equation before essentially berating my wife on what she thought was poor budgeting skills. My wife tried explaining what had happened and she didnt seem to care as her own opinion on the matter trumped my wife's. Several bills coincided with one another leading to her account being overdrawn for the first time in several years. I dont know about Karen but Covid has affected our lives tremendously. We'll be switching banks. Not that MCFCU cares in the least bit which is really a terrible business model because eventually they'll shrink in size.

By replacing the Bank Manager at the So. Thomaston Branch. I have been profiled by this person for disagreeing with her position on an issue of abhorrent Customer Service and misrepresenting the truth. She is aware that I am a Disabled Veteran and that I served my country not knowing that I also suffered from Asperger’s and Turrette’s Syndrome and OCD. She has been using this information to now, create a profile that all of her employees should be afraid of me. She has even brought her abhorrent claims to the attention of MIDCOAST’S CEO. I hope that anyone who suffers from these type disabilities or have proudly served their country, avoid this place the the plague.

What's NOT to recommend?! Great Customer Service and personal service. We are people, not cardholders or "What's your account number?"

For over 18 months I regularly relied on Midcoast Federal Credit Union to deposit my checks to another credit union. Today when I went there, to my surprise my driver's license was not in my wallet. Although they know me by face, have records of all my transactions, see that I have other proofs of identity, and know that I am not a security risk, refused to deposit my check. It wasn't the wasted hour of travel that got me. It was that so much was riding on this deposit, as little as the amount was, and despite me explaining this, no one in that branch cared other than what was their policy: no driver's license, no deposit. There is good reason to bank with credit unions. But Midcoast Federal Credit Union has a staff incapable of making sound customer-care decisions in unexpected situations such as mine. Until Midcoast Federal Credit Union receives professionalism training I am banking in an institution that treats me like a human, in addition to following security protocol.
