The Falmouth Lots for Tots is pretty good for buying and selling used baby equipment. Not so good for selling clothes. Today I brought in: a new without tags two-piece kissy kissy romper (retail $68), a velour Ralph Lauren Christmas dress worn once (retail $55), a Burberry holiday dress (it was over $400 when purchased new and you could buy it used online for $70+), and a 2-piece kissy kissy pajama (retail $40-$50). After waiting in the store for 45 minutes for them to price my items, they offered me $10 for them. When I protested the clerk told me that "some of my items were really old." The only possibly old item was the Burberry dress, which was given to me and I have no idea when it was made. But the other items were purchased new within the last year. I had agreed to sell the items for whatever I was offered. Put another way, I had agreed not to let them make me an offer. But I refused to accept the $10. To her credit, the clerk didn't put up much of a fight and agreed to give me back my items, which she did not have to do. But she did look at me like I was a peasant. I know they have to make a profit, but I expected $25-$30 for the clothes. Had I let them keep the items they thought were worth buying from me for $10 there's no way they'd sell them all for only $20-$30. You can't get the kissy kissy romper for less than $30 used online. What is the mark-up at Lots for Tots? They've refused new kissy kissy items from me before, which surprised me. Then again, they don't have a lot of high-end brands. They say they want brand-name clothes, but most of what they sell is Carter's and I can get used Carter's clothing in the same condition at Goodwill for half the price they charge at Lots for Tots. Today was not the first time I've gotten attitude. I once asked about a used toy with possible missing pieces that they were selling for $15 and, ruminating aloud about whether it was worth it, pointed out to the clerk that Amazon and Macy's were selling it new for $18. "Well," she sneered at me, "I guess it's not a good deal, but that's the price." I didn't ask her to change the price. Sheesh. But I did have one good selling experience with them even though no sale was made. I brought in an UPPABaby bassinet, the kind that attaches to the stroller, to sell. It retails $200. I had agreed to take whatever they offered, but they told me it would be okay if I refused the $15 they would give me for it. I didn't take the $15 and sold it online for $75. In light of my experience today, I wonder if their policy is to low-ball and I just happened to get a clerk who felt bad about that. I'll never bring in clothes to sell again, and (rightly) they've probably put me on some don't-buy-from list for breaking the sales agreement that I signed. I have shopped there often, mostly for books, but after today I don't want to go back there to buy. I really felt like I was being fleeced today.

My experience is as a seller. I called a week in advance to see if there was anything they did not accept. I was told they accept everything except car seats.I found child care and drove 1.5 to bring a truck bed of things to them. They wrote down the wrong number so we waited around for 3 hours before I went to check and found out all my stuff had been gone through. Then, to top it off, they didn’t take 75% of my stuff. I had to load the entire bed back up. I spent more on lunch while I was waiting for them than I received for items. Won’t be back.

I took some things here for the first time. I'm just now going through everything. They took my best items(mostly new) and they gave me maybe 1/25th of original value. And that's still being generous. Yes, I agreed to the purchase amount, so I'm not complaining. Nevertheless, I wanted to share the info, because that may not work for everybody.

Good place to find gently used clothing and baby items and toys. Some clothes seem over priced but the majority is fairly priced.

We have shopped there happily for years. We were shocked today when we brought a crib, that we had bought there a few years ago. The buyer said that it had some scratches on it. Okay. Then she told my husband that they might have taken it if they didn't have so many. I called Scarborough and was very open about what Falmouth had said, wondering if they didn't have so many. They said we could bring it in if it was manufactured after 2011 (it was). Shortly thereafter I received a call from Scarborough saying they had talked to Falmouth and the crib was dirty. When I called Falmouth to say that I objected to that description, they told me the mattress had several stains on it and the crib was dusty. It had been in the garage for several days so I should have thought of dusting it. HOWEVER, the mattress was still in the truck and they NEVER EVEN LOOKED AT IT. Do you know what it is like to be a very involved grandparent and to be told your crib and mattress that just held your little ones is dirty and stained? It is terrible. Not the way to treat anyone.

I am in agreement with many of the bad reviews. This is not a fair, honest, and transparent business. I have been to better in other states. Good luck to them because if they have no insight after these reviews, they will fail.

Decent place to shop, sometimes you’ll get lucky and find something super adorable for a fair price. Don’t bother bringing any clothes there if they aren’t NEW with TAGS. lmao. Waste of a drive and time. Some of the workers are a bit rude… maybe it’s because I’m Asian??? Wouldn’t be the first time heh

This is a gem. So many amazing finds here for my two kids AND they have an incredible partnership with Maine Needs to allow donations. Super easy to browse and super easy to consign. Shop local, buy used, and feel great doing it.

I went in to sell my stuff from my baby, a lot of brand new things still with tags, my baby grew out of 1 size super quickly so I brought it all in, I got a text in literally 1 second after leaving the store. They had about 5 people selling stuff in front of me. So I assumed it would be at least a half hour or something. I come back in, the bags weren’t even touched and they said they were going to pass on them. I literally hadn’t even walked out of the store yet. & they hadn’t even moved from what they were doing. They didn’t take time to look at ANY of the things I brought in. Super annoying. And super rude. I used to come here every day for stuff for my daughter but I can find a different store with less rude staff.

I have shopped here a few times previously. The selection is usually plentiful, and item quality is usually good to great. The sales staff has always been very pleasant and helpful.I decided today to try selling to them. That was an interesting and different - though not BAD experience. I do feel as though the buyers were a little less cheerful than the other staff that I’ve encountered there, but I didn’t find them to be rude or unkind in any way. They are definitely picky when it comes to what they will buy for clothing, so don’t expect them to buy a lot of your stuff unless you buy your baby/ kids all high end brands. I went there today with 3 decent sized bags of clothes, and left with 2.5 bags of unwanted items. I definitely didn’t have the expectation that they would take/ want ALL of the clothes, so I wasn’t too surprised to be taking some back, but I was a little surprised by how many like new items were still left in the unwanted bags. They prefer higher end brands such as gap, Ralph Lauren etc. which I had already read on their website, but figured like new Carter’s brand stuff would likely sell too, but they sent most of that back. Not a big deal at all, but I’m not sure if it’s worth the time and effort to sort & fold your babies outgrown clothes and take them there to consign, I think it would be easier to just donate them. Even though I didn’t LOVE the selling experience there, I do still feel like it’s a great store and will continue to shop there.

If you want to go to a second hand store and buy a used LL BEAN jacket for a five year old and spend $79.00, then by all means, this is your place! So overpriced, it's border line cruel. The only reason this place stays open is because it's in the 3rd most yuppie town in Maine

In reading the reviews I suspect my experience trying to give them nice clothes and other items can shed some light on why their inventory is not as good anymore.... I have stopped bringing my items there because they are either too busy to bother with checking them and giving me a price, or they have a bit of an attitude toward people bringing in items to sell. That is the lifeblood of their business! About 6 months ago I brought them some clothes that had never been worn. They didn't want them. At that point I got the hint and started to just bring my items to Goodwill. Lately, I have been selling my items on Facebook marketplace with great success. I had a name brand top of the line baby hiking backpack. Before I would have brought it to toys for tots but I just sold it on marketplace. It went in about 5 minutes. I had another top of the line item in my trunk, and was in their parking lot on other business. I thought what the heck - I'll bring it in. Nope, they couldn't be bothered with it. You guessed it - I sold it the next day on marketplace! Too bad as my first choice is always to support local business. I suspect others have had a similar experience.
