We usually take out but, tonight we dined in right by the fire and enjoyed the first 30 minutes by ourselves. The hostess/server was a sweetheart and very attentive. The food as usual was awesome. Missed seeing Steve but, I see him all over town anyway. I’ll be honest… the ONLY reason we come into town is for our mail and our occasional dinner at Boondocks! If it wasn’t for that I wouldn’t step foot in this bankrupt, broken down, section 8 lowlife trailer park town!

I quite enjoyed my meal at Boondocks. I ordered a classic poutine for an appetizer. The fries were fresh, the cheese was melty, and the gravy was thick (I would prefer a thinner gravy, but I think most people up here prefer the thick gravy). I ordered a crispy chicken house salad for the main meal. The chicken tenders were perfectly crispy on the outside, juicy and tender on the inside. I cut them up and enjoyed them in the salad. I liked the portions and think that the price was fair. I did not use the restroom, so I can't comment on that, but the restaurant was clean and cozy. The service was excellent and friendly. I even enjoyed looking around the gift shop. I'm glad I got there before the supper rush hit, though. It's bigger on the inside than it looks on the outside, but there was still a good sized line of people waiting to be seated.Vegetarian options: Limited vegetarian options for the main course at dinner, but there is a house salad you could just request without meat or a small garden salad. There were some vegetarian options in the appetizer list as well, mostly fried I think. There are also some soups, but if you wanted a vegetarian soup, you should call ahead and ask what they're serving that day.

Pro:Friendly staff. Great food. Family friendly. Great adult beverage choices - liquor, wine and beer. Convenient location.Con:Not open later.Pro update:No change. Great service, etc. as usualCon update:Not open later and now since the wake of COVID - Americans have gotten lazy. Because of that, Boondocks is looking for employees and because of that, Boondocks has an erratic schedule.Update (January 2023):Here is my take on the poor atmosphere currently at Boondocks:Boondocks has gone downhill, a lot! Their regular staff, that made the atmosphere there so positive (think of the old sitcom "Cheers"), no longer work there. This is due to the owner's poor business skills and forethought of running a successful business. After the owner posted horrific reviews about his regular staff, those that have been the backbone of Boondocks for years, and backed that up by horrible reviews on the local newspapers, no wonder the restaurant is no longer popular.(Boondocks - all the locals read your rant, even after you took your posts down)The erratic hours don't help either. One week they're open, the next week they are not. Not only is that hard on the (new) staff that work there, but your clients end up throwing their hands up in the air and end up finding another restaurant to give their business to. Imagine driving up from another town to find it closed, when they were open a week before. That's bad business... PERIOD!Boondocks used to be my go to place, but as I mentioned above, I've found other stable restaurants to give my business to, who are open at the same time, weekly.Too bad, Boondocks used to have a good thing going (remembering the Happy Hours on Thursdays).Since the time the owner 'burned' his original staff on social media, I have had the pleasure of locating them at other (stable) restaurants, and they all have informed me what the owner's 'rant' was. If you see me, ask me and you will be floored at how over the top and unexcused his mass firing was - bad business kind sir, bad business. You should be ashamed! Now about the food:The food is about the same. However, my medium rare steak came out medium well. I asked for it to be blackened, which costs extra, but was not. I looked at the receipt. It was written by the waitress, but was not prepared that way. I can't blame the waitress, she didn't cook it. I have my doubts about the new cook/s.The menu has less items on it. No real steak selections, the way it used to, even though my new restaurants have a plethora of steaks to choose from on their menus.More about the atmosphere:I pretty much covered that above - it is no longer the place it used to be. To add to the negativity of the new atmosphere, there are "you are on camera" signs EVERYWHERE. Come on, how is this welcoming to your clients. There are less "you are being surveilled" signs in prisons. Talk about paranoia. Not sure what happened to the owner of Boondocks, but he should try selling it again (maybe not for half a million this time) and take up hunting full time. He does not have a business mentality.I guess after this review I should not go there again... But, I wasn't planning on it anyway.

I don't like the taxidermy. Sad. The burgers were good. But entree prices are about double what they should be for this type of restaurant.

we visited this restaurant based on the TA reviews. The atmosphere was pretty cool with all the animals. The service and prices were both good but the food was pretty mediocre.

The steak tips are amazing, try them with the Alfredo! I haven’t been in a couple years, it looks like the prices have gone up quite a bit. Neat environment, good food, cold beer. It’s a definite must try if you’re in the area!
