This place is one of those hidden gems that makes you wish you could add an extra star or two.Highly recommend. Prices are a fraction of the tourist traps and for sweet tourist must haves like loberster roll or my new favorite lobster grilled cheese. I spent about what I was quoted in Bar Harbour for just a soup on adult drink, loberster bisque, lobster grilled cheese and a giant slice of cake.I stopped by on the day they were closed to take pictures with my dogs to spread the word on this place I might have missed since it was not on any top list i could find for acadia. Just driving by I assumed they likely had terrible food and stupid high prices bc they has such a cute outside with lobster and boat/trap. I asked the staff how in the world this place wasn't on any list and they said probably bc they rely on word of mouth. So here I am making sure Google doesn't fail another person searching for "dog friendly lobster rolls near Acadia".Thier dog friendly patio is absolutely perfect for your furry friends. Nice covered booths and big water bowls. Staff was exceptional and let me luxuriate over my feast even though i was there off season and late at night. I couldnt resist the big picture menu before heading back to a campsite for the night. Everywhere should use giant pictures that look exactly like what you're going to get like this place! Pictures did not disappoint. I only say expect to spend more because you will definitely not pass on the soup, sea food add ons, dessert and a second item to indulge and send yourself into a food coma before heading home. Everything about this place was awesome.

Ruth and Wimpy's in Hancock, Maine, is an absolute Downeast treasure. This charming eatery exudes a laid-back, authentic Maine vibe that's as inviting as your cousins' home. It's a place where you'll feel right at ease, and the hearty portions of delicious food only add to the warm, welcoming atmosphere.
When you step inside Ruth and Wimpy's, you're not walking into a flashy restaurant; it's more like entering the cozy home of your long-lost relatives. The Downeast essence is palpable in every nook and cranny, from the decor to the friendly faces of the staff.
The food at Ruth and Wimpy's is not only mouthwatering but served in generous portions. It's comfort food that warms the heart and fills the belly, just like a family gathering. The service is as friendly as a conversation with a close friend, and it's clear that they genuinely want you to enjoy your meal.
The prices are incredibly reasonable, making it accessible to all. Yes, there might be a bit of a wait, but it's absolutely worth it. Ruth and Wimpy's is not just a restaurant; it's an experience that embodies the true spirit of Downeast Maine. If you're in the area, don't miss the chance to be welcomed with open arms and fantastic food at this hidden gem.

We arrived around 5 P.M. on a Tuesday for dinner. We easily found a place to park. There was a short wait to be seated, as was to be expected. Our server was at our table in a short amount of time to greet us and take our drink orders. There is a nice selection of mixed drinks, bottle beer, local draft beers, and Maine wines available. My wife ordered the Maine Lobster Bloody Mary, and I had a Samuel Adams Boston Lager. The Maine Lobster Bloody Mary is made with a dash of lobster juice and includes an actual lobster claw as a garnish. My wife loved it. I was obligated to have a taste of it for an accurate review and found it to be a little light on the vodka, but it was delicious. The Sam Adams was served in a traditional beer glass and was adequately cold.We ordered Fried Olives and the Onion Rings as appetizers. The fried green olives stuffed with pimento were excellent with just the right amount of batter. The onion rings are cut thin and are fresh and delicious. My wife ordered Lobster and Steamed Clams. The lobster looked to be between 1.25 and 1.5 pounds, and the steamed clams were a good size.I ordered Seafood Fettuccine, which is served with a salad, your choice of dressing, and two fresh baked bread sticks. The Seafood Fettuccine is made with lobster, shrimp, haddock, and scallops served in a white sauce. My wife was very happy with the lobster. She said it was a bit on the dry side but not enough to detract from her enjoying it. The clams were perfect. The Seafood Fettuccine had plenty of seafood and just the right amount of sauce. We both thoroughly enjoyed our selections. We opted to have coffee and dessert to finish off our experience. The coffee was hot, fresh, and really good. My wife had Chocolate Cake with Peanut Butter Frosting, and I had the classic, warm Maine Blueberry Pie with a scoop of Ice Cream. The cake was a huge wedge and moist with delicious frosting. The pie was exceptional. A large slice with perfect crust and a hint of nutmeg.Ruth and Wimpy's has a warm, welcoming atmosphere. The servers are friendly, efficient, and knowledgeable. The restrooms are clean and in a good location. The entire restaurant is clean and well decorated. There is plenty to look at both inside and outside.I recommend Ruth and Wimpy's to anyone looking for a true Maine dining experience. This is not a tourist trap! This is real Downeast Maine food, in a real Downeast Maine setting, served by real Downeast Maine people. I highly recommend and will be back again and again.

The lobster was good, but the steak was overcooked and of low quality

Recommended by my co-worker and it was worth it. Very busy, but only had to wait for 15-20 ish minutes. The owners and staff were very nice and professional. The menu has a ton of options, but when in Maine....You could really taste the freshness in the lobster and seafood. We ordered the claw dinner (7 lobster claws cooked in butter) came with two sides. The Caesar salad was on point and the Mac and cheese was cheesy and creamy. My husband for the fried seafood sampler (scallops, clams, shrimp, and haddock nuggets) with fries and coleslaw. My son chose the Shore Dinner (steamed lobster, mussels, and clams served with corn and drawn butter). Hands down the best bang for your buck at $32 and delicious. He eat every single bit. Most definitely recommend.

They never disappoint. Food was awesome. We're from Upstate New York and Ruth and Wimpy's is a big reason we visit Bar Harbor. Thanks!Kid-friendliness: We bring our 4 legged kid and can sit in outdoor seating.

We took our time trying to figure out where to get the best lobster roll this area of Maine had to offer. Noticed the parking lot of this establishment was always packed. While they were out of blueberry pie the day we hit it, they did give us a lobster roll experience! The side of coleslaw was overpriced (1.25) for its size (approx 2 tablespoons) and had no vinegar flavor, but the fries were hot and crispy fresh. The lobster roll was served cold, mixed in Mayo with a pickle spear on the side. For being understaffed, we were served swiftly and the food had typical causal roadside diner presentation. It was my first lobster roll experience so I can’t compare. But I feel like I was given a quality experience despite the fact I was unsure of the flavor. Was it mayonnaise I didn’t like? Or was the lobster boiled in tarragon? It was a new flavor that the coleslaw also held so I’ll blame the Mayo being a Mayo I didn’t care for. The Lobster roll meal was $22/plate compared to the $36-$40+ market prices we noticed on menus around Bar Harbor.Kid-friendliness: Plenty of non-seafood options kids will love such as spagetti and meatballs, chicken nuggets, burgers, etc.

Our first dining experience in Maine! The service was a little slow but very friendly. My godson ordered the red hot dog, which we’ve never heard of but is a normal thing in Maine. I believe it’s just dyed red (that was according to Google). I had the baked scallops with mashed potatoes and green beans. Everything was good. The signs on the ceiling were funny and entertaining. I personally loved the retro bathrooms with their wood paneled walls and carpeted floors. If you’re a hoity toity type person, this place will definitely not be for you. Our group was glad we came would go back again.

This was an interesting place....we sat outside and there was just stuff going on....I heard our waitress telling other diners "We're out of that...we are out of that" over and over. We had the Double Bacon Cheeseburger and Haddock dinner. It was ok, not great-- aluminum foil for a plate? We ate it all.

Amazing spot went there 2 times in 5 days because it was that great - def mom and pop spot - only disappointment was that the amazing dessert from the first night was sold out the second time there and we couldn't enjoy again! Such a large variety to choose from everyone is sure to find what they are looking for on the menu !

We summer in downeast Maine, and Ruth & Wimpy's is our regular night out. Good food, reasonable prices (particularly the daily specials), good service (be patient) and endless variety of desserts. Also suggest ordering $25 gift certificates for $12.50 in advance from Seize the Deal (one per table). Depending on the night, there will usually be a lobster (with corn, or with fries, or with salad) special for under $18. Specials are posted on their Facebook page, but usually pretty close to opening. Whatever they do to the fried haddock (nuggets, dinner or burger) is wonderful. Plenty of options for non-seafood eaters, but the seafood is always fresh and well-prepared. Reservations are sometimes possible, but not always on the same day. There's a phone app to make reservations. You should call if you are a large party. Like most businesses in the area, they are short-staffed. Only open Monday - Friday right now from 3:30 - 8:30 p.m. This changes seasonally, so check first. Be prepared to wait to be seated, particularly during prime hours. This is a busy restaurant. Bring your appetite and a little patience.

Had a reservation and they lost lt. Took forever to get seated. Forever to get waited on and after inquiring (along with the table next to us) as to where our food was it was brought out cold. Not a good experience at all.

Oh, no. I should have realized that the cacophony of kitsch was a cautionary sign, but it was a bit late and not much else was open. Unfortunately, our waitstaff knew nothing about lobster. More unfortunately, she got our order wrong and instead of bringing a twin shore dinner (2 lobsters, some steamers, mussels and corn or coleslaw) she brought a single shore dinner with one lobster. It was tiny. When we asked where the other lobster was, she had no idea what to do. We had already waited quite a while to get anything except a plastic cup of room-temperature coleslaw and some white buns, so we didnt make a fuss. But the kitchen was not having a good night either. Let's just say "not recommended."

We ate here twice on our vacation from Florida, WOW!!!, the food and service was just PERFECT!!! We highly recommend Ruth and Wimpy's. It also seemed like it was a favorite among the locals, a big plus and they are correct. The scallops were yummy and sweet along with the seafood imperial and the steamers were so sweet. Thank you so much.
