I agreed to work with Pine Tree Solar, Michael Griggs during the bustle of the holidays. I installed over a dozen projects to help keep the company moving. Still, I have not been paid in full for lending a helping hand. I've been reading reviews of jobs on hold, no electrical support, customers having to locate their own electrician to complete installs....It's a company with a great outlook... great location... yet too many broken promises.I'm now being avoided, calls and messages blocked. So I'm resorting to a few different sites for reviews.Nobody should have to wait a year for payments, no customer should be given a run around after paying a deposit and made wait months for an install. It's Bad Business. Mismanagement. Poor Leadership. A very Bad look on the industry for us all involved.

Pine Tree Solar did an excellent job installing our solar panels, and are very responsive if we have any questions. They don’t hesitate to come out and take a look at things if we have any concerns. I highly recommend them!

I have had my system up and running for about a week. So far the system is working above expectations. Everyone I dealt with was professional and knowledgeable. Pine tree solar communication was responsive but quite slow at first. After getting the contract signed and spring rolled around there were many delays due to weather. (To be expected with outside electrical work). It seemed like it was hard to get any communication about where we were with the project, which can make anyone nervous. Once Carin took over communication that all changed, the response time improved greatly. Often times getting weekly updates. Once work started it took around 2 weeks from point of delivery to install. (Mostly due to delays with weather). All very understandable. The quality of work is fantastic and they have been quick to communicate any questions we had after the install was done. I’m very happy with my system and very happy with the service I am getting post install.

I worked for Pine Tree Solar for 1.5 years. I was the owner of Penobscot Solar Design for 34 years until I was approached by Mike Griggs, the owner of Pine Tree Solar, to buy my company .I have been in the solar industry since 1988 and NABCEP Certified since 2006. I always treated my customers as I myself would expect to be treated. I left Pine Tree Solars employ in March of this year because my paychecks were constantly not able to be cashed, I was being asked to not tell the truth to clients and in general was dealing with a company that, while it had great and well meaning employees, was being run by people who had no problem lying to clients and potential clients and were extremely unprofessional in their handling of clients money they paid for materials. The reviews here that are positive are not the majority of clients of Pine Tree Solar. Their negative reviews are indicative of how they do business. When a person tires of this type of business and leaves Pine Tree Solar's employ, suddenly that employee is blamed for the poor business practices of their former employer. There's a reason their FB page is no longer available. This company currently owes me, legally, over $100,000 with no intention of paying me. Of course, Mike Griggs now says he never bought my company, even though he has all my tools, truck, phone number they recently shut off due to non-payment, etc .We have an actual, formal written contract. I left because they were in serious breach of contract. The lies are formidable. They owe their material suppliers over a quarter of a million dollars and also are not paying them. Run, potential clients. The great employees there will find better jobs. The management, those who answer these reviews intending to blame the reviewer for their own dishonest business practices, will end up in court. All of this review is 100% fact checkable. Feel free to reach out to me if you'd like.

We have been considering solar for quite some time and received presentations by at least 3 or 4 other companies. While PTS wasn't the cheapest, nor were they the most expensive. But they were the ones we believed in for quality and value. Bev was the salesperson who came to our camp and explained the products and the process to us and really took the time to make sure all my questions were answered, and how the process worked. She was very knowledgeable and was great about making all the technical details in a way that we could understand. We asked a lot of questions, and she could answer everyone. The communication started out a little slow, but then the women in the office were fabulous in keeping us informed about the final month and up through the installation. My system even looks great, from the layout of pipes to the solar and electrical panels. PTS did a beautiful job from installation to cleanup. A special shoutout to Russ, Chad, and Coleman. Pine Tree Solar is fortunate to have them on its team.

Pine Tree solar did my installation in 2021. It was done very professionally. I had an issue which they fixed and was not their fault. They respond to communication even after the installation and continue to act responsibly. Email and phone can be hard to get through because they are so busy. 5 stars.

The installation was very professionally done. After that it all fell apart. It took from October until February to get the system up and running and that was only because I found an electrician to do the work That Pine Tree Solar could not do. I went from October until December with no communication from Pine Tree Solar at all. That is when I found out about needing an electrician. January the electrician I hired was done and it was still end of February before it was online. I have so happy with the system now. My electric bill is $16.99 with 2 heat pumps, 2 air conditioners and water pump washer and dryer and lights

I experienced clear communication throughout the process. A detailed proposal, indicating energy savings, costs and benefits of our specific home solar project provided a basis for the decision to proceed. All the staff were professional, friendly and competent. I would recommend Pine Tree Solar to anyone thinking about a local company helping with energy management.

We absolutely love our solar system and can’t say enough goods things about the people who installed the unit. We were totally off grid and really wanted electricity. Joshua was instrumental in getting the system up and running. He would be at our place in a short time to make adjustments as needed Ian was terrific to talk to as well in helping to install our solarWe would highly recommend Pine Tree Solar to anyone who needs solar power.Doug and Sarah Britton

I have never posted a Google review but feel others need to be warned about this company. We cannot get our almost $11000 deposit back, which Pine Tree has now had since May 2022 with no solar installation anywhere for us. We have sent a demand letter, had multiple calls and emails, and an in-person meeting, with no progress on getting any portion of our deposit refunded. 7/25/23 update-There are differences in facts we have and those in the business owner's response written below. We have never demanded a total refund, as we understand that part of our deposit is non-refundable. We hope our request for a refund minus reasonable costs will move forward.

Fraud Alert – Consumer BewareThis company stole our money. We contracted with Pine Tree Solar (PTS) for the installation of a residential solar array at our home. The official start of the installation project was contracted to begin after we received approval from Versant Power Co, passing our interconnection screening. That screening failed, with no clear path or timeline to the necessary infrastructure upgrades to the Versant system, upgrades necessary for our array installation to proceed. As was stated when we were in the initial discovery stages, if our screening failed, we would not be able to begin the installation project and our deposit would be returned to us. The project never began and we repeatedly requested our deposit of $20,100 be returned to us. At one point, the owner, Michael Griggs told me in writing and on the phone that our funds would be returned to us. We’ve received the run around from both staff and the owner of Pine Tree Solar. We have not received our deposit money back and all communication from PTS has stopped.Working with a lawyer, we sent a demand letter and have heard nothing in reply. We have reported our situation to the Maine Attorney General’s office, the Federal Trade Commission, the Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office and have spoken with the police department in our town. This week we will be contacting our state representative, in hopes that they will support our efforts with the AG’s office in having this company investigated.Over the past few weeks we have learned of at least a dozen other victims of this company, both businesses as well as residential customers. The grievances run from liens on property, to deposits not being returned when projects don’t begin (as is our case), and more. Several others have also filed formal complaints with the Maine AG’s office and the FTC.A current employee also told us directly that she is aware of other residential customers in the exact same boat as us.Pine Tree Solar is still actively soliciting new business and collecting deposits. We implore you, please know that this situation is going on and that our hope in writing this review is to warn others from making the same mistake we did. Buyer beware.

We are pleased with the finished product - an 8.8 kW solar PV system. It works well, looks nice, is secure and was nicely installed. The price was appropriate (not my first install) and there were no attempted extras. The downside - the deposit was much too high, contract signing to completion was 34 weeks, start to finish of install was 36 days and communication was abysmal until a new person was brought on board to let customers know what was happening. With Versant's price now at 30 cents per kWh, making your own power is highly desirable and, as an engineer for 37 years, I encourage its consideration.
