The inn is rustic and full of charm. Clean, great location, and the restaurant downstairs is terrific.

It's all about location at this inn: lovely spot, and worth it for convenience, but teeny, overpriced rooms. I would not stay for more than one night.

It is on an island, which is 2-3 hours away from the mainland and cars. You could only come over on a boat, which runs once per day. So you could not expect to have a Hilton. The rooms are clean and small. But it is cozy and very cultural specific for the island. We stayed at Pierce Cottage which gave us a little more room and privacy. There are dirt or pebble paths between the cottages and the main building. Nobody is here for luxury or comfort. We want to walk the trail and look at the ocean. It is a beautiful place with unique characteristics.

Our room says meadow view but our view is of the next cottage. The skylight is nice to have but you can't really see out of it. Pretty noisy location as well. The room is nice and quaint and romantic but the other things can take away from it. We chose it for the private bathroom. We'd probably come back but definitely choose a different room next time.

Our family looks forward to our annual stay at the Island Inn all year. Very friendly and helpful staff, delicious breakfasts and dinners, clean and comfortable rooms with incredible views and ocean breezes, a variety of indoor and outdoor common spaces, with a location that can't be beat... It's the best spot on the island.

The water in Pierce Cottage was brown, filed with sediment, and smelled during half of our stay. The front desk staff and one of the owners replied that this is ‘just the way it is sometimes’ and that it is tested monthly. The photos of the water speak for themselves. At $365 per night, this is unacceptable and in many ways worse than camping. The inn itself is lovely, the island is lovely, but the Pierce Cottage portion of the Inn should not be accepting guests if there is not a reliable water supply.

INCONSIDERATE NOISE POLLUTION from their boat “Fortunate Island” moored in the harbor.Impossible to rest with the high-pitch, loud ringing coming from the Island Inn owners boat bilge pump alarm. I think it is completely rude to subject visitors and locals to this.We are aware that two separate boats moored in the harbor also went by the Inn to complain to reception, and they still didn’t do anything about it. The ringing can be heard from their $400 a night rooms as well as rentals along the shore. Fix it. This is absurd.

The Island Inn, established in 1907, is a classic coastal hotel in the Maine tradition. Quietly elegant, cozy, and warmly welcoming, the Inn has real character. It was, for us, on our 50th anniversary, the perfect spot to slow the pace and get away from it all. The front desk, house keeping and dining staff are all friendly, helpful and consummate pros who show real pride in their work. The hotel is steps from the dock (where ferries from three different ports tie up) but staff from the Inn will fetch your bags at the dock and take them up to your room—then take them to the dock when you leave. The breakfast offerings were varied and tasty—and the dinner was excellent. Scallops on a bed of puréed sweet potato, for example, was both colorful and cooked to perfection. It’s BYOB (and our room had a small fridge), so bring your favorite wine from the mainland— but a store (and coffee shop) near the dock sells beer and wine. (Just make sure to get there before it closes at 5!) there must be at least 25 active artists on the island, most of whom have open studios for a few hours each week. Plenty of hiking paths—some of which are challenging, but most are moderate to easy. Grab a fish (haddock) taco at a place facing a small beach not far from the hotel, or get a coffee and cookie at a bakery on a knoll overlooking the harbor. Be sure to stop by the island museum—a short 1-mile (?) stroll from the dock—to see some outstanding pieces of art painted by very talented artists who live on or summer on Monhegan…and learn more about the island’s long and storied history, from the first native inhabitants to the modern era. This is a wind swept island refuge where the working fishing boats moored in the harbor reflect the island’s long seafaring history. There’s a little island “taxi” but this is basically a pedestrian paradise made for leisurely strolls. Bring a good book and have your morning coffee (or an afternoon sip as you watch the sun set) on a rocking chair on the deck. The Island Inn is a warm and inviting place and we plan to return next year with friends. If it’s sterile perfection you want, stay somewhere on the mainland. But if you want a restful place with real soul, this is it.

Stayed in a corner room w/ private bath and partial ocean view. It's a rustic inn with all the historic charm that comes with. Having said, our room was clean, comfortable and had everything we needed for an island stay. Dinner and breakfast in the dining room were both excellent! Dinner had many seafood plates as well as other options. Breakfast had several standard pancake/egg/etc. options along with a fruit, bread, etc. buffet. Staff at hotel was all lovely and very helpful. Can't beat the location right off the ferry entrance and lovely view off the porch. Would highly recommend for your stay on the island.

Monhegan Island is an amazing place. I go pretty much every year. The rooms at the Inn aren't the best, but is an old Inn after all. What is the best is the location. It's an incredible spot, right on the weather a short walk up the hill from the dock. It's got good food, and an amazing porch to sit on and read in the day, and have a few and watch the sunset at night.

Rooms were great, we stayed in one of the cottages and it was cozy despite it pouring constantly for our first day. They are all so amazing here and the dinners are incredible. Some of the best seafood I've ever had. Everyone who worked here that we talked to was super nice and accommodating. I would definitely recommend if you're coming to Monhegan

We were put into Pierce Cottage, at first glance the room was nice but sometimes you can't tell a book by it's cover! The pedestal sink is very loose and doesn't appear to be connected to the wall, I went to brush my teeth and the water had a disgusting brown tint to it, the bed could probably use a new mattress. The trash in the bathroom had not been emptied by the cleaning lady. Our view was of the back of the hotel and storage.I complained about the brown water and was told that's the way it is, the morning manager then went on to say island life isn't for everyone.Well she told me, I'm two or three times her age what do I know! I owned and operated two vacation rental property management companies for almost twenty years and if someone had these types of complaints we would gladly let them leave and apologize and probably refund them for their night since they were unhappy. The island was interesting and lots of nice views and the local shops were nice but staying here at the Island Inn really killed it for me.I wanted to leave based on the disgusting water and uncomfortable bed but they refused to return our money for the unused night.I would NOT recommend staying here.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here! The Island Inn is the lodge located closest to the boat dock and is beautiful. Check in was easy and there is a luggage room for storage until your room is ready so you can go enjoy the island. The views of the water were amazing from our room and there is some good hiking on the island. Breakfast is included as well. Highly recommend staying here!

My husband, Nick Papouchis, and I started coming to the Inn a decade ago or more; we stayed for a few days, then more. Now our sons, their wives and our two grandchildren come for a long week For all of us, it is perfect. The Inn, the food, the porch, the quiet, the views, the trails, Artists, Cathedral woods, The Brewery. Our grandchildren on two coasts are now preparing for the Jamboree! And to greet us, Jennifer Marr at the front desk. Warm, competent, and always patient.

It was over priced. It doesn't have an elevator and the steps are hard to climb. The menu is limited and over priced, for what you get.
