Sunday River Country Club is an 18-hole public golf club located in the Town of Newry, in Oxford County, in the Western mountains of Maine. It was designed by famed golf course architect Robert Trent Jones, Jr. Designed in the early 1990s, the construction of the course began in 2003 and opened to rave reviews in 2005. Since its opening it has received accolades from such notable golf publications as Travel + Leisure Golf, Golf Week Magazine, Golf Styles New England and the Robb Report. GOLF Magazine has again named Sunday River to its "Top 100 Courses You Can Play in the U.S." ranking for the 2017 season. Golfweek Magazine has consistently named Sunday River the #1 Course in Maine!
Lots of positives, all well documented by others (views etc). 3 stars because the course itself is circus golf and not to be taken seriously. Huge elevation changes make it nearly impossible to determine the club on approach, and being off by even one club often kills the hole.
