Do not use them, they are a scam they changed their policy and now they want to charge you a $10 fee just to pay your bill over the phone. when you contact customer service no one seems to care.

Useless credit union. Caters too much to old people, yet rips everyone off with hidden fees. Better off going to big banks. It’s member owned because the members employed their own all your money in hidden fees lol.Trash.

Hidden inactivity fees. Only good for accounts you use 10 times per month.

I reached out over 5 months ago about refinancing a business loan and car loan and did not get a response back. Maybe see who isn't doing their job because you lost out on a tremendous opportunity.

Hopeless notification system! Completely unreliableble. They keep charging you new fees every other day and in spite of having all possible notifications set up you don't get notified of the fees. They will literally run your account dry with fees if you do not check the account personally every day.

It's kind of hard to do any banking when they are only open during my normal working hours. 8-4, Monday-Friday

I've lost so much money with this bank. Started off great but went downhill fast. Hidden fees everywhere, checks never processed in time. You call for one thing, they say they fix it, and you keep losing money.Considering closing my account here and moving to another bank so I won't be broke again or have my check disappear for paying fees

Portland Branch: This has to be the most unprofessional bank I have ever done business with. The service is poor, staff don't know what is going on probably due to poor training. Customer service is zero. The staff are rude and probably because they have a captive customer base with the University. One staff member will tell you one thing and the other will tell you another as in very poor communication. I am ashamed they are connected to a University I graduated from.

Disliked it a lot! Credit Unions are OK but there are still a lot of hidden little fees and stuff. Like the constant restrictions on your own money. Let's say you have $4000 in your account the UCU will only allow you to take out about $200 to $300 of your own money a month without a fine. Also they don't update account info all that often so it's all too easy to bounce a check or something and get slapped with more fines and fees. Also there is an inactivity fee in which they keep dipping into your money eventually closing your account all together as they rob you, also one time even though I made payment arrangements for a loan they system info didn't get updated until weeks later so they drained my entire account to pay the bill and still sent it to a collection agency where they slapped me with a collection fee almost twice that of the original load (despite payment arrangements already made) . Also as a non trad student I didn't like teens and people in their early 20s working behind the counter. They don't know what they are doing. For example one day I was going to cash a check and like always I endorsed the check right in front of the cashier. The girl behind the counter looks right at me and so I proceed to sign the check in front of her. When I look up she is talking to another woman about their boyfriends (gossiping) then she says to me that she can not cash my check because I had already endorsed the check. I told her I just endorsed it right in front of her and she said "No you didn't, I need to see you actually sign it". Arrhrghggg! The little girl was obviously more interested in gossiping about their boyfriends than doing her job. They made me sign a piece of paper like 20 times to compare to the signatures on the check but they still didn't take it, then I got a lecture from her about endorsing the check while she watches me. She calls over a supervisor to help and the supervisor (even after being told I signed it right in front of her) gave me a lecture about not signing my checks before I enter the bank. ARGGGG!!! I had to get a new check issued from my boss and come back. What troubled me is that I saw her look right at me 1 second before I started to sign the check "in front of her". It's not my fault she turned around at the same time and started chatting away about her boyfriend with another child employee. But some of the older women there were hard to talk to as well. Like the supervisor that despite being told what happened kept repeating herself to me as if she didn't hear a single word I had just said to her. It's not like she said she didn't believe me, it's just that despite my telling her what happened I still got lectured several times about "how to endorse a check". During my time at UMaine I basically kept a minimum deposit after that and used them to take out student loans, while I took my serious banking somewhere else. I didn't like the unrealistic restrictions on my own money anyway and being fined for stuff that wasn't technically my fault. I heard similar complaints from other students and staff at UMaine about the UCU. I only chose that place because it was located right on campus.

Great staff! NIce building. Good location on UMaine campus. Good rates for loans; though you may want to shop around for car loan rates. I got a better deal at Changing Season FCU in Hampden.
