“I had to bring in my cat around 9PM in the middle of the week. I called them to explain why I was concerned, they asked some questions and recommended that I bring him in. From the moment I walked in the door, I and my cat were treated very courteously. Despite a full waiting room, everyone was calm and attentive. There were signs explaining the triage method of which pets/cases would be seen first and it made total sense.
Even though I had a several hour wait, I was checked on and given updates. Both the tech and the vet I dealt with made me feel listened to, not rushed and every option and step was explained to me clearly and patiently with plenty of room for questions.
The expenses of the options of procedures were literally printed out on paper so I could see the cost up front before making any decision. I felt like I was informed of all the options and not pressured into any decision. When I declined some options, there was no pressure, only understanding professionalism. Because of the nature of my cat's issues, they stated they would send the X-rays to my regular vet for the next day and absolutely followed through on that. My vet had all the files and info from the previous night's visit waiting in hand when I arrived the next day.
Having a pet that needs emergency treatment can be so stressful, upsetting and scary. There's such an unknown element and you are the sole advocate for the pet that trusts you implicitly. There's always the underlying concern about costs that can compound already difficult decisions. Every person that comes through those doors are already having a horrible night. In this setting, on the night I was there, I watched the staff deal with panic, sadness, stress and fear with empathy and care. I hope I never have to call an emergency vet again, but if I do, I am very grateful that Eastern Maine Emergency Vet is in my area. Big thanks to everyone working 9/9/26!”
