If you are ending up at PVESC, chances are you've got something scary going on with your pet, which is always TOUGH. They have become my go to veterinary emergency clinic. Professional, full service with the feel/communication of a smaller vet office.

An amazing team of people work here! I have been here several times now with my kitty MuscleMan. Although we don't LOVE when we have to go, I am always reminded of what a great place it is each time. I feel that the staff and doctors are genuine, compassionate, and very knowledgeable. Dr. Landry in Neurology is a fabulous doctor and I am forever grateful for their continued care of MuscleMan. Whether you are visiting for an emergency situation or are going for more regular visits, I would absolutely recommend PVESC...you can know your angel is in the best hands!

Brought my cat in because she opened her incision up after her spay. Everyone was so lovely! They were triaging urgent patients appropriately even though it seemed like a very busy night. Thank you to the doctor and the nurses for helping my Lulu! If you go to the ER please be patient. Pets are triaged and the most in need go first. I know people get frustrated with waiting but they took wonderful care of my little fur baby as well as other more urgent cases. Thank you all!

A month ago we brought our very sick dog here in the middle of the night and were received by an incredibly kind and knowledgeable team. She stayed overnight and had labs and imaging done and their team was extremely transparent and upfront about the cost. They gave us our options clearly and were understandable about financial hesitation. Our pet insurance rejected our claim to cover our dog's visit and Renee and the team at PVESC have been so helpful with our appeal. They are wonderful here, and while I hope we don't have to return with our dog any time soon, I know that she would be well cared for if we needed to.

The first visit (an emergency at 4am) was fine. They treated our dog promptly and were kind. We went back for a blood test during normal evening hours and the staff was repugnant; rude, prickly, SLOW. You cannot light a fire under these people. I will NEVER go back there again. The people I dealt with there were some of the most unprofessional individuals I have come across. There are other emergency vets and I suggest you take your pets to those places. These people will treat you like garbage and then act like they deserve respect and a medal.

The staff was extremely nice but I will say I was beyond upset that I filled out all the paperwork on my end for my dog and it didn’t seem to matter considering everything was completely messed up by the end and the pricing is a joke !! My dog was there for not even 3 hours and I was charged 1,000$ !! I had actually transferred her to a different hospital because I was a nervous wreck thinking well if you can’t even get the paperwork right what makes you think I would trust you to give my dog surgery? Why is the paperwork so important you may ask? Because you had her down as a male dog when she is an UNFIXED FEMALE and had pyometra !! Not only that when I was brought the estimate for her the tech pointed out that she forgot to add ONE test and the fee for that test was 90.00$ she left the room to talk to the doctor to make sure she wanted that test added before adding to the estimate she ALREADY gave us when she came back in she came in with a new estimate and to my surprise it wasn’t just 90$ more it was 500$ more !! When we got our discharge paperwork for her we also noticed our contact info was ALSO wrong. Idk just seemed money hungry to me but the techs were super super nice !

On October 11th 2023, I brought my dog Sawyer here due to vomiting/fainting after eating. I was informed there was $150 diagnostic fee to look an at animal but they make you sign a form saying they might need to do emergency testing that could cost as much as $1200. Well they performed just about every diagnostic test but could not figure out what the issue was. I spoke with Dr.Wilson about treatment and he recommend she spend the night for observation. They asked for $1000 deposit and she spent the night but was not making improvement. I visited her the next day and she still had made no improvement and was even getting worse, I was told fluid was pooling around her organs and they weren't sure why. Later that evening I received a call from Dr.O'brien saying that the IV they had given her had punctured and was the source of all the fluid that had been pooling. They stopped the IV and changed treatment course but said she should spend another night to see how she responds. The next morning I called and surprisingly they said she was doing great and had eaten and responded well to the treatment and would be able to release her that day! Great right? Well when I picked up Sawyer around 11:30AM on the 13th, she still did not seem right and was unable to walk out of the office needing to be carried. They gave a script for viagra and another for nausea and said she had a heart condition but it could be managed. My wife and I wanted to bring her to our own vet for evaluation due to continued laborious breathing and refusing all food and her medicine even when offered with peanut butter, so we called and scheduled a visit. Unfortunately by 6:00PM that evening Sawyer passed away while laying in her bed. Obviously upset about the situation I called the veterinary clinic the next morning in order to speak with someone, the receptionist informed me that no one was available and wouldn't be able to contact me until Tuesday so I asked her to take a message to please contact me to discuss my concerns. Well no one has called me or contacted me at all. I feel that this place is a cash grab as they never had a good explanation and took no responsibility for the IV snafu or even reached out to offer condolences. After spending in excess of $2880 at this place I expected to have a healthy dog but now the only consolation I have is that Sawyer passed surrounded by family. I will not ever bring another animal here.

Professional, empathetic, and communicative. People will always remember how someone else made them feel, especially in an emergency. As a health care worker, I have tremendous respect and gratitude for the way my partner and I were received by the staff at Portland Veterinary Emergency the night that our cat was hit by a car. It was a heartbreaking night to lose someone who we loved so deeply, but I am so grateful for the kindness and professionalism that we were shown. Finn will have a memorial in our backyard, the place that he was the happiest.

What a joke!! Keep you waiting for 3 hours in the waiting area, then put you in a room and tell you are next. Waited an hour in the room! Went to ask at the front desk how much longer? You are next they said as long as a bigger priority doesn’t come in! My dog threw up 10 times in a row!! So I asked is my dog not a priority? All animals are a priority they said!! I said we don’t feel like a priority and left with out seeing a vet!! Hopefully our puppy is ok!! And we will bring him to our vet tomorrow!! We drove an hour to get there!!

We brought our pup here for an emergency and I can not say enough about the exemplary care that was provided. For the minute we walked in, to the following day, everyone that we encountered was compassionate and knowledgeable. The staff went above and beyond to provide the best care and comfort to our pup. They treated our pup with such dignity and provided us with clear and supportive answers. We are from out of state and were extremely fortunate to have found this practice. A special note of thanks to Dr Eifler and Dr Landry for their knowledge, professionalism and extraordinary compassion. Truly exceptional.

We brought our cat in for an emergency, completely unaware of what happened to her. She was rapidly failing, couldn’t meow, move or even pick her head up. Within 24 hours, after staying the night, she was back to herself and home. The day shift doctor, Dr. O’Brien was very knowledgeable, informative and compassionate. Calling us throughout the day to give us updates, even as little as “she’s eating and being sassy.” I couldn’t thank the staff enough for saving our girls life.

The doctors at Portland Veterinary Emergency and Specialty Care clinic saved my dog's life! I know that every day I have with my dog now is a day that I have directly due to the amazing medicine provided by Dr. Martha Agrodnia, Dr. Brittanie Partridge, and Dr. Raphael Vezina-Audette. I could never thank them enough! As a general veterinarian, I immediately knew the poor prognosis associated with my dog's diagnosis of osteosarcomas that had already spread to the lungs. I felt helpless and was crumbling with grief. The oncology team went over the newest treatment options and helped me make a plan. The surgery team reached out and listened to my concerns. They made the surgery as easy on my dog as possible! The ER staff took excellent care of my baby while he was recovering from surgery. Even with my medical knowledge, I feel like the clinic worked a miracle on my dog!I will never hesitate to refer one of my patients to the wonderful doctors at PVESC!
