I had such a great experience at Dathan Hunter. I was in town filming for work, and needed a place that could style my hair well, after I'd had a bad haircut elsewhere. Not only did they give me a beautiful blow out and style, they actually fixed my haircut! It was totally beyond my expectations. I would consider visiting Portland much more often just for my hair!

Wow! What an experience! From the moment you walk through the door you are treated like family. Functionally family, too! No like my biological one…… Wonderful service and very reasonable prices. With inflation the way it is, a gallon of milk costs more than a haircut! Thanks a lot, Obama. Iliyana is truly a magician. An artist in her field, and I was her canvas. Her generations Michelangelo, you might say. She turned me from zero to hero. I looked like Michael Cera before. I was so tired of girls looking at me and gagging, doing their best to hide their disgust at my unkempt birds nest. Recently, a little girl burst into tears after looking at me, before her mother restrained her and shielded her eyes. I was on the verge of shaving it all off. Now? I could pass as an extremely pale, tall, skinny, Taylor Lautner. I cannot give this salon enough praise. I will certainly recommend them to my friends. I have friends, trust me! Anyway, I will definitely return to this lovely establishment before male pattern baldness inevitably takes its toll. I give it 3 thumbs up!!!!!! You’re gonna like the way you look, I guarantee it.

I am thrilled to sing the praises of Iliyana and Dathan Hunter Salon! As a new client I was welcomed into this warm, friendly salon, greeted by Dathan, Iliyana and their two beautiful collies. Iliyana has a calm, gentle demeanor and incredible styling skills. My hair is complex- a combo of straight and wavy. Iliyana worked her magic to release my ‘inner curls’ and showed me how I can do it on my own! She listened, offered valuable advice and gave me a cut and style that lets me love my hair! Could not be happier!

Dathan has been styling my hair since I moved to Maine 3 years ago, and it has never looked better! He’s incredibly skilled both as a colorist and stylist, and manages to tame my wild waves. I highly recommend the salon!

I was in town for two short days and Dathan was able to fit me in after a cancellation. He is incredibly talented and seasoned! He worked wonders on my color and also gave me an amazing blowout while making the whole appointment seem effortless. He is truly gifted and I highly recommend him!

I’m the person that does not schedule an appt ahead of time. I call when I’m in desperate need. Dathan has fit me in on a Monday morning before. I’m so lucky. Today I got to have his daughter Iliyana cut and style my hair. She did an amazing job. Now I have two to choose from. Sorry Dathan. Thank you so much for fitting me in. I’m never disappointed.

Dathan has been cutting my hair for 13+ years and I can't imagine going anywhere else. Through every single cut and style transition, I've been 100% pleased. Even though he's been cutting my hair for over a decade, every visit starts with a thorough consultation where he listens to my ideas and provides thoughtful feedback. I stay part-time in Maine during the year. I needed to find a salon that I felt comfortable with. I found it. I'm so happy with my first cut from Dathan Hunter Salon. Ilyana is a natural. She told me exactly what she was doing as she cut my hair. How considerate of her. She took her time and nailed the style. She gave me great instructions on using a diffuser with curl-defining cream. (It's a great product, it was not a hard sell) I would have never thought to try it on my very straight hair. The scalp massage with shampoo felt amazing! There were other women in the salon, I was very impressed by their color and cuts. I have several acquaintances who use this salon. Their hair always looks great. The salon has a nice vibe, it's clean and stylish. Dathan and Ilyana are warm and friendly. It was a pleasure to get a cut. The shop is very convenient to the ferry if you live on the islands. A big plus for me! The price was reasonable.

I’m currently in Portland, ME for 3 months on a business trip, and my hair was starting to look like an oompa-loompa’s. I was referred to Iliana and boy, did she deliver! Not only were she and Dathan super meticulous, they were a fun duo.This isn’t your typical salon with 12 chairs and 4 different people’s hands touching you. This was a white glove service, where they handled the process cradle-to-grave. They gave me the sexiest baby lights, brought up my balayage, toned the orange with different glosses, and gave me a trim. Dathan helped Ili with basics, but overall, she knew what she was doing! The price was reasonable compared to the West Coast, especially since I was there for 3 hrs. I felt incredibly relaxed and they gave me awesome suggestions for a potential elopement.
