Been going to them for service since I moved to Portland in 1999, back then they were Midas. Never had to take it back to correct anything. I think they're why I drove my Corolla 300K miles and will probably do the same with my Rav4. Always accommodating and professional. They have taken care of everything from normal maintenance to brakes, exhaust, tires and tuneups. Never had a problem.

Disappointing, called early July to get my state inspection done and they scheduled me for the last day of the month. They then proceeded to be surprised I had an appointment when I arrived. Grumpily handled me, then tried to up sell me tires to pass my inspection. 3 other mechanics have seen them, they all told me they are fine for a while longer. Seemed more like they had a gap in their calendar for tomorrow and wanted to keep their guys busy. At least for women, beware. Not fun when mechanics assume women don’t understand cars, let alone tires.

These guys are known locally for bogus claims add Ons. They over charge for everything. when i saw how much they were charging, and what stock they use, i told them i was all set. the seemed annoyed, but you shouldn't advertise "free inspections" if its going to bother you when people dont want to pay for overpriced service. i was met with a "good luck getting this somewhere else with those brakes." anyway, i took my vehicle to another mechanic, where he inspected all four brakes and rotors, determined i only was in need on one new caliper and rotor and rear brakes, compared to Maine autos inspection results which where "new breaks, new rotors, new calipers. it saved me 1,000 dollars just to get a second opinion somewhere else. i advise you do the same.my roommate told me not to go here, but they were close and could see my vehicle asap. about 6 months ago he brough in a vehicle for a new tie rod, and was told he would need a new control arm! of course he took it elsewhere and his tie rod was fixed, and He has had no issues since. my advice, look elsewhere

Brought in tire with a broken stem which they fixed and fished out a pressure sensor that I had dropped inside of the tire. They figured out a way to fix the stem without reordering a whole new stem and sensor. Plus the found a nail in my tire and fixed that without an extra charge. Excellent service.

HIDDEN FEES!* I would not suggest taking your vehicle here. They charge about $100 more than other local places. Staff is pushy and will bully you when it comes to negotiations and will simply tell you to "take it somewhere else" if you question why the work is being done.I was told I needed new brake pads. But when he printed out the work order it had several more items on there. When I questioned it thats when I was told if I didn't like it to "take it somewhere else" because he would refuse to do the work if I didn't agree to the charges instead of just explaining the reason. After calming him down to explain it and realizing it was work needing to be done.*After the work I noticed charges listed as "Shop supply" that weren't explained in the itemization. When I asked I was told "thats put in by the computer we don't have control over it..." I called corporate and was told its for "miscellaneous" items such as... if the tech uses a rag... or drops a screw... or sprays some solvent. Thought those were all overhead costs that come with doing business. But pretty shady they aren't upfront with those fees. They might have charged me for using the ink in their pen as well.Afterward I spoke to another mechanic who informed me that the work was overpriced.

First off I never write reviews, but the service here was so terrible I had to create an account to leave this. I went in for an inspection and the extremely rude and unfriendly workers tried to charge me 1250$ for repairs that would allow me to pass inspection. I brought my car to a different place for a second opinion and they told me it would cost only about 250$ to fix. This place is full of scam artists that cannot be trusted. They will rip you off, do not use them!!

My poor friend got an inspection done at Maine Auto Service on Forest Ave in Portland and had a horrible experience. They made him get his windshield wiper jets replaced or they wouldn’t pass him and as he was driving away the jets still didn’t work. He turned around and went back and they told him “sorry they worked when it was here” and that he would have to come back again and pay to get them fixed *again*. Total crooks!!!Don’t go to Maine Auto on Forest Ave!Service: Vehicle Inspection

This place is a regional chain, but damn they do a wonderful job. I know cars well and they have been so generous. They even spent 30min doing some diagnostic and didn't charge me anything. Wonderful work and people.

Well apparently if your car dies on the highway several times but the computer doesn't throw a code, there's nothing wrong with it! Hmmm, funny. Pretty sure I almost died twice. Took the money and offered me nothing. No suggestions, nothing. Car died on the highway just after she picked it up. But its fiiiine.Status Update:Owner refunded the money...Two stars

took my car there twice to have an inspection because they didn't get around to it and I needed an inspection sticker. Yes I had appointments both time no they never called to let me know they never touched the car. charged $2800 for a plethora of repairs which they never did. I took the car to another shop and they said the brakes, sensors, and fuses had not been replaced. I ended up spending $2800 on snow tires and an inspection sticker and was told I needed to put another $1000 for an alignment. NEVER AGAIN BUYER BEWARE THESE GUYS SHOULD BE SHUT DOWN!NOT WASTING ANYMORE TIME WITH TIM AND JOE. ALREADY LOST $2800.

These guys are the best! I've been taking my aging, high-mileage car to them for the past couple years and will never go anywhere else. They are all extremely polite and professional and the mechanics are top notch. They always take the time to explain exactly what's going on inside my car in a very detailed manner which is super helpful since I know nothing about auto repair. I've never felt pressured or ripped off, in fact their prices have always been extremely reasonable. Thank you Tim, Joe, and Co. for keeping my battleaxe running!
