Our Property manager, Chuck is great! He has helped us out with numerous things around our apartment, and is always super responsive!

UPDATED: The new property manager, Chuck, who is local and now serves as a point of contact, made the effort to contact me to discuss my negative experiences and come up with a solution. I have added stars to the review because I found the conversation helpful and we came up with some solutions after my issue was heard.I was previously very happy with my landlord and property management when it was Schneider Property Management. Since Home River Group bought out that company I have had a miserable experience. I tried to call was a question about my rent and I was transferred to multiple different departments speaking to strangers I couldn't understand in call centers, being told that my question would yet again be emailed to a different department. I know longer even know who my landlord is, where my rent payment goes who all these strangers are that have access to my information. This is not what I wanted. This is a horrifying process. It breaks my heart that some outsourced company was call centers and strangers has replaced the company that was so kind and helpful.

Do not rent from HRG. We began renting our apartment prior to Schneider being bought out by HRG and things were great. Once the management changed, things went downhill fast. Last year when we renewed, they attempted to impose ridiculous mandatory fees on us beyond rent control limits which thankfully were blocked by the city after a long complaint process. Wouldn't be surprised if they continue to place shady fees on tenants and ignore rent control when our lease is up for renewal. In the past year, it seems that nearly all local positions have been eliminated. Any maintenance or safety issues have to go through their online portal which gets addressed by some regional/national coordinator and contracted out to other large management companies without a local presence. Getting anything addressed is next to impossible because of the insane number of people involved, none of which will bother to get back to you in a timely manner.HRG tries to use being one of the largest property management companies in the country as a selling point, but it is the opposite. For the sake of efficiency and profits, they neglect and gouge tenants. My wife and I originally saw us living in our apartment long-term and it is beyond frustrating that we are stuck with the choice of leaving for a more expensive place to live or having to deal with a shady and useless management company. Just stay away from them. Say no to big property management.

If you rent with them, say goodbye to your Deposit when you’re moving out. They make up some nonsense to keep that deposit.

Unpopular opinion here - we've been renting from HomeRiver Group for about 3 months now and they've been totally responsive, helpful, and communicative the whole time. Yes, the application process at the beginning was pricey and incredible in-depth, but the market out here is competitive so we were prepared for the hassle. Since we've been here, any service requests have been answered in a timely manner by kind and helpful folks.

If it was possible to leave ZERO stars i would. To start, when we first moved in there was already so many problems with the apartment. the apartment wasn’t up to standards and as a first renter we ran with it. When we left they took our deposit for damage that was already an issue when we moved in. They took over 8 months to come fix a window that was already broken when we moved in. they gave us cleaning fee for the fridge that they replaced already? Scammers for real, 100000000% would never recommend you rent from any of their properties. This isn’t the first time ive heard that they pocket tenants security deposit after they move out. So glad we moved out.

Buyer beware started to set up an appointment to take a look at an apartment in Saco Maine and had to talk to a robot. they're telling me that you have to go in by yourself with a code and enter the apartment to look at and a $70 application fee I don't think so this is a scam be careful. And the other reviews are horrible seems like a company that you can't trust. Good luck.

Initially this PM company was very prompt however I scheduled a viewing 3 times, followed their instructions, and they never follow through with code to enter unit. When I call, email,or text I can not reach a real person. I now see why this PM company has horrible reviews.

Absolutely awful. Blatantly violate Portland city housing law. Will steal your whole security deposit.

I see reviews below stating the same thing I will - they take your money for an application fee and never get back to you. I will be contacting my representatives and the BBB about this business. I understand the market right now is crazy, but if apartments have so many applicants you can't even respond to them, then take them off your website and Zillow. You are clearly scamming people.

I am really sorry I did not check the google reviews for this company before dealing with them. On Google, you will see many people saying the same thing. This company posts rental properties online, and won't even talk to you until you go through the application process and pay an application fee. You cannot view an apartment until you pay a fee. After taking your money, they simply don't respond to you. If an apartment has so many applications against it they cannot respond to applicants, then remove it from being listed! They are clearly scammers looking to grab quick money and take advantage of people who are in a bind to find housing. All you have to do is look through reviews to see how many people they have scammed money from! I will be reporting them to the BBB as well as contacting state and city elected officials about this company.

You can have things done right, done cheap, and done fast. Typically, you only get to pick two of those three. Schneider Property has only ever chosen to have things done cheap and fast. Looking around the apartment I rent from them, I can see dozens of examples of cut corners and shoddy workmanship. Their negligence makes for a less pleasant place to live, and is also leading to property damage that they will probably plaster over until the building falls down. If I owned a property I would certainly not want it to be managed in this way.As a renter, whatever. It’s fine.

Extremely disorganized. They screwed our paperwork up 3 times and insisted that I gave them inaccurate information only to find out the lone person there, they didn't even call my references to check.
