What a darling shop. You can tell the owners really have such attention to detail for well curated beautiful colorful handmade items xIt’s like a independently owned small shop with free-people meets pier one vibes but with nice high-end and not mass produced but handmade items mostly art, Knick knacks, scarves/clothing, jewelry and home decor.great place to buy gifts, genuine customer service, could not be happier with my experiences here! Fantastic go-to for gifts where you can always find something special.

Amazing and unique gem in the heart of the Old Port. Meticulously curated gifts, clothing, and treasures from local artisans and those from India, Thailand, Bali, and beyond. Whenever I want to find something special for someone I care about this is my go-to. I love this place!

I am so in love with the shop. The owner Renee said she personally goes to India to get these things in the shop sourced. I could not resist buying beautiful scarves and a necklace (and a monkey) - so adorable. If you are looking for gifts for others or yourself- this is a great place to find something you like.

Waterlily is a special place to visit in the Old Port especially because Renee is a beautiful beam of light. She shares her adventures of travel and brings it to us in a colorful collection of items that are delightful to see and wear.

An amazing hidden gem right in Portland's Old Port! I can't believe how many times we walked by but never noticed it! We happened upon it again this weekend and something stirred us to check it out. Needless to say we were very impressed with our experience and can't wait to visit again. We were immediately greeted by Reneé, the owner, who was super friendly and genuine. She took the time to tell us all about her shop and philosophy and answered all of our (many) questions. We learned that she's been in her current location for more than 12 years, and we hope she's not planning to go anywhere anytime soon! We also learned that everything in the shop is handmade by artisans, and Reneé herself hand picks each and every one (even traveling as far as India to do so!). I ended up walking out with a few unexpected but amazing little finds. My favorite? A coffee-scented candle (I've been looking for one for the longest time) called "Americano," hand poured right on Marginal Way by a local Maine artisan! I think I'll have to return next for one of the hand-painted tin cups or meditation cushions. Thank you again, Reneé! See you again!

The tremendous variety in fabrics and beads - it has a very uplifting feel to it. The proprietor is helpful and interesting to talk to. I strongly recommend this store for anyone having an interest in Indian spirituality, culture and fabrics.

I LOVE this store. I especially love knowing that all of the artisans are being paid a fair wage for their work, and it's so fun to see all of the behind the scenes travel on Instagram too. There are so many things here that you can't find anywhere else (unless you actually go to India or Nepal, etc. of course). And the shop owner is one of the nicest people I've ever met.

Renee Garland is your typical, exploitative, wealthy, white business owner. She buys beautiful, handmade crafts overseas for cheap, and hawks them stateside so she can live more comfortably than most. While "working hard" on her endless buying trips (aka vacations,) she inevitably needs someone to run her stores. These ppl are typically underpaid, overworked, and in my case, when I was employed through her, duped into signing 1099's, which is, in fact, illegal. This is a way for Renee to save boatloads in taxes, while her employees (the people making her lifestyle of world travel possible,) wind up owing the IRS thousands of dollars. Don't shop Waterlily. Her business practices aren't "ethical" as she loves to say, but rooted in racism, colonialism, and exploitation.
