Me and my husband stayed here and got treated terribly. Front desk employee Jag Jain, got very aggressive with my husband, argued with him over the smallest things and was incredibly disrespectful and almost attacked my husband and when my husband defended himself, we got kicked out and banned from the property. I would stay

JB is rude, condescending, and disrespectful to women. He broke the law concerning ESA's. I did not feel safe, as a woman, in this hotel. The room was dirty (122) see pictures of what was discovered IN my room. The room beside mine was two older alcoholics who were loud 24-7. I was disrupted during my zoom classes because of the commotion next door. I would recommend extended stay over this place anyday.

Very clean and nice place to be. It's hidden some, so it has privacy . But great spot.

Horrible. I will never stay there again. 1/27/24-1/28/24. My wife and I got the room online. When we got there, it was about 4:30pm. We were not greated warmly. When we were going to pay for the room, I was told that I couldn't use my card. I have a debit/credit. I was told that they only take CREDIT CARDS, and a debit won't work. Guy behind the desk, "I've tried them in the past and they never have worked. My wife ask, "could you just try?" He told us again. "They never work." She said "will you just try?" He finally tried it. Then nothing was said but he was typing and moving around some papers. Than all of a sudden he was giving us door card keys. No sorry, no nothing. The place wasn't full. We where given the room right next to the stairs. The room was OK, tho. It had some problems. I had to unplug the refrigerator, because of the ice machine was really loud, and the fan on the heater wouldn't stay on. It starter and stopped all night long. At about 6:00, my wife went down to the truck for a few things. When she came back the card wouldn't work. I came to the door with the other card to try it, not really thinking that it wouldn't work. We were locked out. Not a big deal. Stairs where right there. My wife went down to the front. She was told that she was swiping it wrong. She came back up twice. Finally, he came up to look at it. He tried it. Didn't work. Came back with a little machine to reprogram it. That didn't work. He tried that for about 10 to 15 minutes. Finally he came back and changed a little battery in the door. Then it worked. He wouldn't say he was sorry for any of it. We left to eat and the door wouldn't open. We tried and tried because we didn't want to go to the desk. It finally unlocked. After a terrible night of sleep I had some coffee. Just from the maker in the room. The packet of grounds didn't match the maker. It turned out to be colored water. I couldn't wait to leave. Sorry so long, but it was awful, and ya'll should know.

The front desk is great, and the fitness center is nice. But I've never seen a motel that was so dirty. I don't think the carpets in the hallways or stairs have been cleaned in years. I had no cover over the bathroom fan. Nicotine stains running down the walls and on the ceiling in the bathroom. The heater/air-conditioner was so full of dust and dirt that it probably hadn't been cleaned in years. As far as all the IHG places I have stayed, this falls way below the rest. Honestly, you need to better. IHG should give this place an audit.Safety: The doors going into the building don't lock so anyone can come in at anytime

The rooms were great, staff was friendly. What I didn't like is that I found out not only did he over charge me for a single studio room, he also was stealing money by going in the system and changing the price. Also he on more then 1 occasion allowed my ex into my room after I asked him not to, I locked myself in my room and woke up to her standing over top of me, he gave her the key they give the cops to break into your room. I should have sued, then he called the cops on me when I confronted him about it the day I checked out. The cops were very understanding and said they always have a problem at that establishment and he is the common denominator.

Had a very pleasant stay. The room was very spacious, well organized and equipped with everything you'd need. Very clean with no harsh smells and not overly perfumed. Everything worked perfectly. The front desk staff was decent and efficient. Working in the industry myself I tend to be overly watchful and this beautiful room passed. I absolutely love the set up of the complex as well, very efficient and comfortable looking. I will be back.

Don’t go there. The front desk guy is so rude and doesn’t respect the law (ADA/service dogs). He was condescend. You should never hire those kind of people to manage a hotel! Respect and service are important qualities for a hotel to be successful. This is CLEARLY not the case here! As you can see in other reviews, this is far from the first time this employee is an issue and disrespectful towards clients. You canBe sure we will boycott every hotel belonging to IGH from now. It is unacceptable to have employees like this in a hotel. You should replace him ASAP.Response to the owner : we didn’t stay there ! Your unprofessional employee cancelled our reservation ! If you want to do something useful, reprimand him or replace him for the sake of your future clients ! BE PROFESSIONAL and dont write your useless general comment you reply to everyone, do something to actually improve your hotel. And as I have already say we will boycott you from now, you can thank your employee for the beautiful picture he is giving to your brand.

This was an amazing hotel right near the beaches and close to Portland. The staff were very kind and communicative. It is nice to wake up each day and see the same friendly faces that are willing to go above and beyond to make your stay comfortable. The only negative was that they overbooked for the dates I was staying. But the outcome was a free upgrade so I cannot complain. The room was standard for a small town but for the price did not meet the expectations of a tourist destination even with the upgrade. The suite was large with plenty of space and comfortable furnishings but there were cabinet doors missing which I have never seen at this price range. I would not expect this in a standard room let alone an upgraded room.Rooms: Clean but damaged furniture and cabinets.Nearby activities: Awdome breakfast place, honeycomb Cafe with homemade English muffins, donuts, and breakfast sandwiches.Safety: When I arrived police were evicting a tenant.Walkability: Car is required.Food & drinks: Some small selection of groceries at very high prices. No breakfast or restaurant was a part of the hotel.

It’s an old building and looks and smells like it. The rooms had some missing cabinets, the handles of some things were broken, the room smelled old and musty, and we found a small bug friend in the room. The pull out couch was obviously worn out with springs digging into my back. The queen bed was comfy though and sheets were clean. The fitness center was larger and better than I expected, plenty of parking, good location. Located in a business park type area with another hotel and spa business.Rooms: Large spacious rooms but it is not up-kept very well.

Hotel is old in desperate need of updating, carpets to be replaced. Have you ever gone some where and were afraid to take your shoes off? Well, that's exactly how I felt. If I hadn't gotten in so late I would have switch hotels.

One star because zero is not possible. My family and I had the worst experience ever with this IHG partner. I have been a member of IHG for years and never been treated the way Mr. JB treated us. We arrived at the hotel and no one was at the front desk to greet us, after waiting a few minutes and walking around the lobby, JB came from the side of the lobby with a lunch container in his hand and a not very friendly face. Instead of greeting us nicely, he appeared very upset, maybe because his lunch was interrupted!!! His tone toward us (my daughter and I) was demeaning. It may have been a cultural thing, but either way if you are in the hospitality business you should never treat a guest that way.He did not allow us to have an early check-in even though he had mentioned the day before over the phone I could arrive between 12 to 1pm. He was rude and condescending. He, JB should not be in hospitality. No one should ever be treated that way. I have annotated on my reservation via IHG online that I was to do an early check-in. I had also called IHG to indicate that, in addition to speaking to JB himself the day before, he indicated I could arrive between 12 to 1pm. I understand early check-in is dependent on availability; this property the night before had plenty of 2 bedroom suites available which is what I had reserved. As JB appeared enraged we were forced to leave the hotel and ended at Casco Bay hotel, where the front desk service gets 5 stars, their check in was done as soon as we arrived, seamlessly and without any issues. I would not recommend the Candlewood Suites- Scarborough property!!

My husband and I stayed several nights at Candlewood while searching for a permanent home in Portland. The hotel was very clean, extremely comfortable beds, and very safe. I worked out in the well equipped workout room that included cardio & hand held weights. The manager was professional and provided exceptional customer service!! We enjoyed the fully stocked kitchenette with pots, pans, silverware, microwave, dishwasher, full size refrigerator, dish soap, dish detergent, paper napkins, coffee maker, dish towels and a complimentary popcorn package. This hotel Even provided a complimentary WASHER and Dryer on the 2nd floor!! ( Bring your own Laundry detergent)The hotel is situated in a safe and quiet area & there are 2 gas grills located in the front area along with a covered seating space with tables and chairs) Highly recommend this hotel!! The manager was kind to provide us two later check out times when asked & greatly appreciated:)Note: Another smaller hotel in Scarborough when asked if we could check in a little earlier said yes but failed to mention that we would be charged a $10.00 fee!Candlewood was very kind to allow us to check in earlier one day and without a charge!!

The owner is very disrespectful. I was there for a week me and my fiancé and he changed our room because it was roach infested. The next morning which was a Wednesday he comes to the room and tell us that we have to go back to the room that we were in because someone else needed the room that he put us in which was weird so we had to move our stuff from the third floor to the first floor. The staff was super nice, but the owner not a nice person. We had to leave and go to another hotel.Rooms: Uhhh

Candlewood Suites is an okay hotel if you're visiting Portland. For one, it's located just outside of the city but easy to drive into, and a much less expensive option. We booked this through Costco travel in a package with a rental car, which was a good idea because you definitely need a car in Maine. For us, Candlewood Suites was fine for a three-night stay. We didn't spend much time in the room, nor did we prepare any meals here. They do have a lending library of kitchen items like crock pots and blenders by the office, as well as a "store" that has convenience foods and drinks and a coffee machine (free). The hotel doesn't offer a free breakfast service, restaurant, or a mix-and-mingle hour like some do. A grocery store is opening across the street, and both Walmart and Sam's Club are nearby for your grocery needs. Plenty of restaurants and a few breweries are nearby as well, so you definitely won't go hungry or thirsty as long as you have a car.For a "suite" option in the IHG brand, Candlewood Suites is disappointing. The hotel needs some TLC- several cabinet handles were missing, and things were patched up instead of remodeled. We appreciated the large refrigerator and large trash cans, and the free wifi was also easy to get on and worked fine for us.Beware that the hotel offers housekeeping service only once a week, so with a three-night stay, we didn't get any service. We were fine with that, but folks who are here for 4-6 nights might need it, and we didn't know of any options to request it.We didn't have a bad experience here, and it was fine for a few nights... but I'd prefer to stay at a nicer property down the road if we return to the Portland area.
