We brought our 5 year old kitty into MVMC's emergency department and were greeted with kindness and compassion. The diagnostic resources and technology are state of the art. The issue was identified and addressed with a positive outcome.Dr. Mortlock was outstanding and cared for our kitty as though she was her own. She kept us informed at every stage of the experience and her expertise and knowledge was evident from the very beginning of our experience. All the staff we interacted with were highly competent and gave us a sense of confidence that we and our kitty were in great hands. We would highly recommend MVMC to anyone needing emergency care for their pet. Thank you to everyone at MVMC!

The staff and doctor who cared for us at MVMC were welcoming, caring, and extremely competent with our almost 16 year old Jaxson (Lab). We are extremely grateful for their compassionate end of life care. They have the hardest jobs of all. Thank you all. Janet & Tony

MVMC has been amazing through the whole process of diagnosis and treatment of my pet. The staff is very kind and friendly. Special thank you to Dr. Diroff and his team for all the hardwork put in and for always listening and being so understanding and compassionate.

Dr. Steinburg gave our 6 year old English Bulldog, Shiloh a new life! She can breathe so much better now and her energy level is over the top. Not only is he is an excellent surgeon, his compassion and time given to us to address our questions was unmatched! Totally recommend Dr. Steinburg for high risk procedures and managing challenging breeds like English Bulldogs! He is a Hero!

We came here after having a horrible experience at Port City and couldn't be happier with them. The staff was amazing and caring and Dr. Eztra (Surgeon) was truly the most down to earth and compassionate human. He stayed after hours just to call me when I was done teaching and give me some news himself without having his staff do it. we truly found the best place to care for our girl

They were very professional and came to the car because COVID was hitting hard at the time.I explained the situation, they left me with the paperwork to fill out so that they could immediately take my cat inside. And then they saved his life.He recovered perfectly with zero complications or any reoccurance of the condition thanks to their aftercare advice, and this all happened years ago. Perfect health ever since. Also, I just called, and they were happy to email me the complete records, notes, even the itemized receipt detailing what happened on that awful day. Also, the price was extremely fair and reasonable. We will only go there from that day forward, until the apocalypse. :)They are seriously fantastic though.MVMC- Thank you. You're the best!

If you're reading this, thank you for choosing my review. I want to assure you that you've made a good choice by not only looking into this Veterinary service, but also in viewing what I have to say. We took our 2 year old Husky in for an ACL surgery.First of all, the staff here is incredibly attentive, empathetic and extremely kind towards not only the pets but also owners. I felt nothing but compassion as I spoke with each staff member. They are INCREDIBLY welcoming of all human beings. No matter your beliefs, gender, preferred pro nouns, personal life... everything. As a cis white, married male (this may surprise some) but this is something that I always not only look for, but consider a requirement as I strongly believe EVERYONE should be accepted and shown the same respect as we want someone to show to ourselves. I consider myself a supporter of human rights, and a true friend of the LGBTQ+ community. (I greatly apologize if that offends anyone. Because, I also defend anyone's rights to believe what the choose, as long as they are not purposefully working towards hurting others, or society as a whole).***ARRIVAL, PARKING, INTAKE***After you park, the numbered sign in front of you will request that you call the office. Soon after someone will come to your vehicle where they will ask you detailed questions about why you're there today. Please, understand that these people see 100s of us per day. I'm sure it's difficult for them to remember everything they've been briefly told about why you'll be there. So be kind. Be patient. The staff members will then take your dog into the building. You're welcome to wait in their beautiful waiting room, or your vehicle. After the veterinarian has examined your pet they will come speak with you personally to discuss their findings. They will then explain the medical issues to you simply, before giving you options on how to proceed. (We were incredibly lucky as Dr Ezra Stienberg was the one in charge of our visit. He is an amazing doctor. )This will conclude your visit for now. After you and your veterinarian discuss the plan of action, they will go over the rest of the process involving payments, wait time, and all else which will follow for your pets recovery. My only request is that when you go to this office you show nothing but patience and respect. This is what they do every day. They are enthusiastic to help you but you know they must be tired, and often deal with problematic customers. Please show them empathy. They went to school for years, with one goal in mind....they want to save our pets. Our furry family. Please show them gratitude.

I wanted to take the time to write out a long over due appreciation post for MVMC. With the unfortunate new fad of shaming Veterinary Hospitals & Veterinarians on social media for unfavorable outcomes due to financial constraints in most cases. I’d just like to shed light on how very lucky we are to have an Animal Hospital available 24/7 that is undoubtedly the best of the best here in Maine.I’m so very thankful for the dedication of the Veterinarians + Veterinary Nurses at MVMC. Not only is their knowledge base unmatched in every department, but their over all care is never less than the highest standard. It brings me peace knowing no matter what time of day, our pets, my family’s pets, & my friend’s pets will be provided with the care they need + deserve. Thank you all for being there for us at all hours to ensure our very loved companions never have to suffer & always receive top tier medical treatment.

My dog tore both of her ACLs with only 1.5 years between each injury and required surgery for both of them. Dr Rubin and all of the MVMC staff were incredible! Not only was I able to get in almost immediately after my regular vet referred me but they were able to either schedule surgery that same day or within 1-2 days after the diagnosis even during the holidays! They reviewed everything with me about her situation each time and gave me visuals of her diagnosis and what our options were. I felt very included and supported through every interaction. The recovery process after these surgeries can be difficult especially if you have a very active pet but MVMC was so detailed on what to expect and how to give my girl the proper care throughout the entire process. They were so quick to answer any questions, fill prescriptions, check in on her incisions, etc.The entire staff was so friendly and so good to my girl and me during these hard times. At 11.5 years old, my girl is 100% healed and just as active as she was before either injury!Thank you for all that you've done for us MVMC.

We have had a few emergencies with all our animals at some time in their life. I wouldn’t take them anywhere else. The staff is so compassionate and helpful. The care they give is impeccable even when the outcome isn’t what we hoped for. The memorabilia that we got for our Charlie, was definitely done with love!

If I could give this hospital 10 stars I would!!!!!! We come from New Hampshire and have been coming for more than a year now . We have a cat in oncology and Dr. Philibert is truly an angel and we are so fortunate to have him here! Nikki and Ann are the most caring and compassionate technicians! We unfortunately have had 3 cats with cancer and our first one passed away ( I wish we had known about this hospital for him) our 3rd cat started his treatment here and will be continuing his treatment with Dr. Philibert. Our cat has also seen Dr. Diroff in internal medicine at this hospital….. also 10 stars for him! Every time we call, from front desk, technicians and doctors everyone is so kind and these people truly care about animals and their clients! If you are looking for the best possible care for your animals, these people are top notch for care and put animals as top priority!!

I highly recommend this medical center. Our dog suddenly became paralyzed in her hind legs because of herniated discs in her back. We came from 2 hours away because our local emergency vet was unable to diagnose her and said we could either go to Scarborough or put her to sleep. We are so impressed with the compassion and care shown by everyone we came into contact with. They were so patient and took so much time answering our many questions. Her treatment required back surgery and a 4 night stay. The neurologist overseeing her care and surgery called us daily with very thorough updates and was so kind. Our discharge paperwork and instruction was incredibly thorough and we felt like our concerns were heard and that Dr. Gallo bonded with our dog. They even let us drop off the food we make for her at home, allowed us to leave behind shirts with our scents to help comfort her, and even let us see her before we left for the evening. They put animal comfort first and the only thing I wish we could change is their location, so they’re closer to our home!Thank you to the staff for saving our girl and for taking such great care of her when she needed it most.

My puppy was injured with Luxating Patella’s in both knees. I was directed to Maine Veterinary Medical Center (MVMC) in Scarborough, Maine. I was referred to Dr. Ezra Steinberg and his staff to complete Scout’s surgery and oversee his recovery. From the moment I arrived, the welcome mat was rolled out and I was greeted by the staff. I shared my story, struggling with reintegrating into society and managing my war time scars from the Army.Dr. Steinberg was very moved by my story and it was an emotional consultation as my 11 month old puppy, Scout, had never been away from my side since my wife found him from a shelter. Dr. Steinberg truly understood Scout’s purpose and the intricate role he plays in my recovery. Dr. Steinberg and his staff knew the importance of this surgery so Scout could continue to provide this crucial service to me for many years to come. Dr. Steinberg and his entire staff made us feel like we were among family. Dr. Steinberg even later advocated to Trupanion pet insurance for coverage, which they were happy to help. As I left MVMC, leaving Scout in the care of Dr. Steinberg and his staff, I was distraught and worried about the outcome.Dr. Steinberg and Caite kept me well informed leading up to and after the surgery. I knew that my loved one and partner was in good hands. I even received photographic updates as to Scout’s recovery and I was reassured that Dr. Steinberg and his entire staff gave Scout a lot of love and that he wasn’t alone.I was left with a detail list of instructions as to Scout’s recovery care. My family and I were welcomed into their medical center with warm greetings and a very happy puppy, soon to be a service animal. I left the facility without having to worry about the financial burden of such a surgery. I can’t express my overwhelming thanks to the anonymous donor(s), Trupanion, and to Dr. Steinberg and his team as they made this surgery possible. I can’t recommend Dr. Steinberg enough to others as it was a very moving experience and wonderful surgery. Dr. Steinberg and his staff have increased Scout’s quality of life so he can continue his mission to serve me and to assist me.I can sincerely say that the level of compassion, support, and understanding is next to none. I was left knowing that my beloved partner, “Scout,” was in good hands. Dr. Steinberg reached out personally to reassure me that Scout will be able to continue his mission serving me. I can’t express enough the level of thoughtfulness, kindness, and heart felt warmth from Dr. Steinberg and his staff. I am very humbled to have so many blessings come my way.

Highly recommend MVMC and Dr.Rubin! We were referred to him when our dog was sick and limped on one leg. We met Dr. Rubin when our dog was 10 months old.Our dog ended up having an infection in his knee and he was treated as quickly as he could for this. This later lead to other complications and our dog underwent TPLO surgery due to torn ACL/meniscus with Dr.Rubin in June. Things went great and we were kept in the loop the whole process. We loved him so much we recently went back for him to do gastropexy and castration which went just as well!Anytime we needed appointments MVMC got us in quickly. Dr. Rubin and his team were always great! Very informative, responded to emails and very caring! His nurse, Moe, (I believe was her name) in particular was THE BEST! She was always so excited to see our dog and he was excited to see her which always meant the world to us! We’ve had a hard time with our dog being welcomed at other places because of his breed(Cane Corso) which has made some experiences not so great for him. She saw him for the big softy, cuddle bug that he is and was always informed of the other staff loving on him as well!He is now 1.5 years old and can use his leg again! Our journey with them for this adventure has come to an end but if we ever need anything I will always come here and highly recommend people here!
