The equipment is clean but if you ever cannot afford payment due to loss of residency with proof or any other legitimate reason the gym will not allow you to cancel your membership and will only allow you to push your month's owed back.This means you are on the hook for a full year barring some servers change in medical status.Before signing up here know they will want there full year no matter life changes.I use to recommend this gym and I was planning on renewing at the end of my year.Just get the planet fitness membership. The one in Portland Maine is 24/5

Anytime Fitness in South Portland Maine operates a fantastic facility. The staff are amazing and the manager Josh is so friendly and helpful!I highly recommend them-

Horrible customer service via contract. I gave 1 month notice, agreed to pay bi weekly until the contract ended. There is a $25 ‘midyear maintenance fee’ which the manager could have waived that would have been charged last week of my contract. I begged & pleaded for the manager to wave that fee due to financial struggles and he refused! I had to call my bank and fortunately they stopped the one-time payment ? So I won in the end! The managers lack of emotion, poor customer service, & robotic reaction to a reasonable request of waiving a fee when I was no longer going to be using the facility - fell on deaf ears.

Visiting Maine for two weeks, I hit this AF location during the front end and again on the day of our departure.Plenty of free parking in a shopping strip along a main road on both visits on weekdays about 8amThere were a dozen patrons in there at any time during my workout, so plenty of room and no competition for space and equipment.This gym size and equipment selection is very comparable to all 4 of the the Anytime Fitness locations I've been to, which makes it easy to execute your planned work-out without too much hunting and pecking. The key fob works just the same, too.All the equipment were in good shape, and the place was clean and in orderly condition.My one gripe is that someone felt the need to keep the big doors in the classroom open to the outside when it was a muggy 70F, making that room and that nearby end of the gym needlessly sweaty.

It is sad that I have to resort to the hope that a 1 star review is how I can hear from someone.I have attempted to cancel my membership time and time again, through a "corporate" office which was useless, I haven't heard from ANYONE, I stop payments through my bank, since they won't let you use any other payment method, and all of a sudden my phone and email is busy with people looking for answers- but they can't help me cancel the membership, they just want to collect.I enjoyed the gym when I was there, I moved away, take the L and cancel my membership. Even if I move back, I will never step foot into an Anytime Fitness.

Am in town for one month. Needed a gym to cover me while I am here. Called and left a message, called again during office hours no answer, called again and still no answer. Went in person and was met with a rude man who smugly said he did not offer one month memberships. Difficult to deal with obviously and not welcoming or adaptive anyone who has gym needs other than a one year membership.

Would never do business with them again. Covid hit and I couldn't travel to Portland anymore which was an hour away for me. Would they cancel? No!So I completed the contract and told them I don't want their services anymore. They said I had to come in and sign something which is bull. They want to try and get you to sign another contract. I told them to email it to me. They did and I signed it and sent it back. They didn't process it and charged me again. I disputed the charges and that was that.

I use this location when I am visiting Portland. Clean, bigger than most Anytime locations I use when traveling. The equipment is always in good shape and it's never very crowded.

I have similar sentiments to some who have left reviews. It’s not worth the money, or the absurd contract that they bamboozle you into signing. I had no idea that no matter what life circumstances are sent your way, you cannot cancel, and they will drain every last penny from your bank account. I have an ongoing back injury that has recently prevented me from going to the gym, and although they did “freeze” my account for a few months, unless you’re considered completely disabled you can not cancel. The gym itself is also extremely limited as far as equipment. Overall DO NOT recommend.
