The selection seemed okay but I was so distracted by the odor. I want to believe it was the cheese.

Sawyer's Specialties is my go to place for wine and cheese. The wine expert is knowledgeable. The wine selections are extensive and have something for everyone and their price range. Sawyer's cheese selections are also varied and cheese/wine pairing is easy to do. Tasting is allowed and encouraged. If I am having guests for dinner, Sawyer's is the place to start.

while the cheeses here are superb, they have TWICE in a week closed their cheese counter because they are understaffed. yet when I walked in today, there were two employees, one of whom was just standing there telling customers that the cheese counter was closed. I asked her if she could possibly cut a couple of pieces of cheese and she said no. what gives here? Although their cheese prices are twice what I pay at home, I pay the piper up here because it's the only game in town. How does a small business chase customers away like that. The employee could have been actually cutting cheese for customers instead of just standing there telling us they are short staffed. It makes no sense at all. Bye, bye Saywer's Specialties.

Get wine and cheese. They do both well. It’s a walls of bottles broken only by a wall of cheese and thoughtful savory delights. There are many weighty classic bottles. If dinner is a (Wine) Spectator sport you’ll be pleased with the selection.WAIT!!! There are delightful bottles that are cheerful and inexpensive without the Walmart experience. Ask questions and they answer. The store is so packed that your eyes will glaze over unless you know your stuff. So don’t be shy. I found a lovely kerner/pinot blanc that I really enjoyed.Cheeses are well curated. Enjoyed the taleggio and the Lisa ramps. Breakfasted those with local toast.

What a great shop to find during our trip! The staff were super nice and helpful, we were able to get everything that we needed and the selections were absolutely delicious.

Looks like a decent shop, but the owner has apparently decided that masks should be optional for both customers and employees, contrary to current CDC and Maine CDC guidance (and in the face of a number of covid outbreaks in schools across Maine). Will take my business elsewhere. Public health is a responsibility we all share.

Companies that frequently can't staff inside their normal working hours because there's a staff shortage (which in this economy, translates to "I don't pay my workers enough") deserves 1 star. Good products, sure, but with such an owner, this is all I'll give.
