Do not expect to make your way through the preserve on the Flagstaff Trail from the Stratton side of the park. It's a Dead end about 1/2 hour in. It was a rough wooded drive with nothing more than one or two beautiful pullover points along the way.

Beautiful views from Avery Peak and a very fun climb. Make sure you are either covered or have bug spray in the summertime.

The best mountain hiking in Maine outside of Baxter State Park. All the trails are well maintained and in good condition, you should be as well if you going to the summit. Great views from top. Thru hikers if you're on Appalachian trail. Swim in a mountain top pond or bag several peaks in a day, or both.

Beautiful place to hike!! Took us ~48 hours to do the whole loop.We started from the car on fri at 12pm and stayed at the moose falls campsite fri night, which has 4 tent platforms past the privy.Saturday morning we walked up the fire wardens trail, past the avery campsite, and along the ridge. This part was steep! The views along the ridge and on the horns were especially pretty. We descended down the mnt and stayed at the horns pond campsite saturday night, which has a new privy. We hiked back to the car sunday morning along the horns pond trail which is more gradual than the firewardens trail.Well maintained and overall a really nice trip.

Always such a treat to get out of civilization and enjoy the great outdoors! Trails are all very well maintained and the campsites are kept up on. People there are generally very courteous, with the exception of a few. Great hikes and/or water sports. There is an underwater town too, so that could be fun to try and find as well. You could spend a week here and still have plenty to explore. The Bigelow mountain range is absolutely breath taking, as well as all the other mountains surrounding the lake.
