Finding a lunch spot as we traveled from Quebec City back to mid-coast Maine on a weekday in February was not easy. Many restaurants are closed at this time but luckily The Hawks Nest Lodge was open the day we were passing through. We were the only patrons at lunch. Welcomed by several friendly staff and we decided to sit at the bar for lunch. A beautiful pine bar with rustic pine bar seats. The ambiance was very good and very welcoming. Really personable bartender talked with us about the area. Loved the menu of some classics and a lamb burger! Had to get the lamb and glad I did. Delicious. Made with lamb and feta cheese it was served in a burger bun. We upgraded to the French fries, glad we did as they were hot and had a perfect crisp. Really easy parking and good, clean restrooms. A wonderful stop!

My wife and I had a wonderful time at the Hawks Nest Lodge recently. The staff was amazing and attentive and friendly throughout our entire stay. We had several excellent meals at the restaurant as well. I was fortunate enough to meet the new owners, Ben and Holly, who clearly love what they do and it shows in the quality of their business. I will definitely be making Hawk's Nest Lodge a place I frequent.

Had a wonderful experience staying at the Hawk’s Nest Lodge last weekend! Check in was a breeze and the room was very clean and comfortable. We ate at the restaurant and had great meals. The service was excellent with super friendly servers and bartenders. We even met the new owners, Ben and Holly who were so kind and genuinely interested in getting to know their customers. It was such a fun and welcoming environment that you almost felt at home amongst strangers! We couldn’t say better things about this place and can’t wait to go back! Would recommend to anyone looking for a weekend getaway!

I booked this lodge with its highly rated restaurant, in a lovely area. When booking, there was a 50% non-refundable deposit. Fine, it was picture perfect place. A week later, after they took my money I received an email saying....oh, by the way the restaurant is not open. There is however a caterer who can cook your food. She did not cook on premise, had no menu or prices....Hmmm? Just not kosher to me. When we got there after a 4 hour drive, we had to knock on the window for the person to see us. She opened the door and asked us who we were. The owners were not there to greet us, just that cook and a cleaning lady. The cleaning lady brought us to our rooms and immediately I saw bugs everywhere!! There was a convenient vacuum to pick them up. Gross. NO OTHER PLACE that we went to in those three days had a bug problem. They were falling on my head at night. Horrific. To tell you the truth, I felt like we were in someones house and it was deserted...empty dining hall. closed bar, it was vacant. It we needed something we had to try to get in touch with them by email or phone. After we left I got an email the next day saying, We hope you enjoyed your stay and it will leave lasting memories...The only thing it left was me being angry that we were duped and they were not forthcoming with the restaurant being closed before they took my deposit. I reported them to the Better Business bureau and they never bothered to respond. So sad that people with a business don't care about anything but getting a persons money. Well at least they are discredited through the BBB now. NEVER AGAIN. Handled VERY poorly!

First of all, this place has the potential for a 5 start review, and I am saddened at having to give it a 1 star. And this is a long review - sorry for that. But I have much to say. We made reservations last year, Finding this lodge lovely on the website and the amenities were nice, finding the in-house restaurant a big plus for us. As we could enjoy our meals and relax in this beautiful lodge for 2 nights. We rented a lovely suite with a balcony overlooking the river. All should have been good. We received a call about a month before our arrival date stating that "Due to some legal technicalities with the previous owner" the restaurant would not be open during our stay. I asked at that time, was everything else OK or should we cancel our reservations and wait until the future to plan a stay here when all was functioning properly. I was informed right then "oh no, your stay will be wonderful, it's just this little issue of the restaurant, so all will be good." I was told that the chef that worked there would work with us (if we wanted her to) to cater personal meals and deliver to us during our stay. When we did discuss the details of those catered meals. The prices were quite high - breakfast for 2 of us around $100 ( which included a service fee and tax) . It also seemed very complicated trying to figure out the logistics of delivery and set up. So we nixed that idea, for which we were glad when we heard from another couple staying there about their experience with that. (Which was very negative) Now --- for our stay !!!! Well, these folks SHOULD HAVE INFORMED us that this lodge was actually not fully functioning as we noted a "Closed" sign out front when we arrived. We got a call the morning of our arrival giving us a code to get in the front door and telling us where our room was located and that a key would be in the room. No one here in the lodge. In fact we didn't see another person anywhere when we arrived. A total closed up entry area that looked like it would have been lovely. A dining room area we walked through that was all closed up and deserted. Our room was in fact open. But I don't think anyone had been in our room to prepare it for us in a while. There were dead flies and dead lady bugs all around on the carpet. I did find a portable vacuum cleaner that I was able to get rid of those when we came in. If someone had prepared our room that morning, I cannot imagine they would not have cleaned that up. But that was a minimal negative issue. The room was nice. Bed would have been more comfortable with a box spring under the mattress. Just having a mattress made the bed so very low, but that was OK. The wood in the room was beautiful and the view outside on our deck lovely. As I said, potential for a 5 star review. As we are getting ready to check out this morning, there is no one around. No one ever checked on us to see if we had what we needed. We discovered by talking to one other couple staying here that this property is for sale and they were very disappointed in their whole situation also. We all agreed that we should have been given honest information and informed of what we would find when we got here - nothing but our rooms - and that we should have been given the option to cancel and have our money refunded. But in fact, remember, when I suggested we cancel our reservations when we got that call about the restaurant closing, I was told, no, not to worry, everything else would be wonderful. That was pure dishonesty!!! I am very displeased with how all of this was handled. You have a lodge that is being sold and no one is working in it???? Then give your customers that information and let them decide if they still want to come. Don't just let them arrive to find what we did!!!!! Nothing but a room!!! A total closed up and deserted area in what would be a lobby! No one anywhere. This could have been a place we would want to return to - but definitely not now. In fact we had our meals at a lovely little place down the road that also has rooms. If we retu

Since they changed owners, it has gone from rustic cool, with a great menu, to high end chef created foods, That are way to EXPENSIVE !! Not many people up that way doing all the cool stuff there is to do, wants a high end restaurant, to pay high end prices either, IT WAS GREAT THE WAY IT WAS ?????

Came here in the morning for a iced coffee and a little treat and had a lovely time. Barista Sierra was super kind and personable, not to mention made a delicious latte with real caramel! there's a variety of breakfast pastries and cakes to try as well that all look amazing. there's plenty of seating right on the river and cozy inside as well!

We arrived at noon and the place was on a shut down mode. There was no one and nothing was open. After calling them they said check in time in at 3 pm and no one will be there to help us until then.A delivery guy was sitting there and waiting and said it happens all the time. They are never there. They left me a voicemail to come around 2. We entered with the code given and the room was still locked and no keys in closet where they said. After harassment if half an hour more they sent us to another room. It was dirty with hornets. After another half hour of harassment they sent us a “manager” to come to open the room we were supposed to be in.This took a long two hours of moving things back and forth after five hours of driving from Boston we were tired. We have to pave for moose tour which apparently is run by them. They had said it is an hour from lodge. Just so we are all clear it is 1 hr 20 mts and NO MOOSE. this tour is run by them. Worst ever and I will post another review about that. You are in the water for less than 30 mts and driving the rest of the time. This room was pretty but not cheap. NO COFFEE MACHINE. really???And of course I called them. NO ANSWER.SAVE YOURSELF. DO NOT STAY THERE.
