We've passed by this place a few times, and decided to stop today--based on reviews. I'll start by saying that we didn't know it was basically a fast-food restaurant. Okay, no problem. The two people at the counter were welcoming, and couldn't have been more friendly and accommodating. It was also very clean and tidy. Now for the bummer. I wanted the traditional chicken filet sandwich, but they were out of filets. (I'm thinking now that they were probably food-service grade, anyway.) I opted for the fried shrimp salad, based on the suggestion of one of the counter workers, who said that the Maine shrimp were amazing. I chose the "Golden Italian" dressing. Well, turns out that the dressing was mediocre food-service Ken's--not homemade. The salad had a ton of greens, but was only adorned with 4 grape tomatoes, about 6 pieces of red pepper, one salty pickled banana pepper and VERY strong purple (some call them red) onion slices. On top, about 20 fried shrimp. Knowing that they were Maine shrimp, I expected them to be small. However, not only were they small, they were almost non-existent in the HEAVY batter. I'd say that the ratio of batter to shrimp was 3/4 to 1/4. I could barely discern any shrimp flavor. Even upon removing excess batter, there were hardly any pieces of shrimp. Most of the salad ended up in the trash. . Needless to say, I left hungry and disappointed. I don't know--people rave about this place. Perhaps I picked the wrong thing. I guess that maybe the fried clams or fish would've been better. But if they are as heavily battered, I wouldn't have been any more pleased. Sorry, Sea Basket. I had high hopes.

Fried Seafood that melts in your mouth! I have experience as a fry cook, and I am very particular about where I eat. They change their fry oil daily. Makes all the difference. When in Wiscasset , Maine- make it a plan to eat here. You will be happy you did! No waitstaff- so tip the cooks! They deserve it!

We finally made it to this popular seafood restaurant on Rt. 1 in Wiscasset. It has been on our list for years, but we never timed it correctly. So glad we stopped at this roadside gem.Friendly service at the counter. Takeout or order for dine-in and they'll call your number when your order is ready. There's a service station with tartar sauce, ketchup and napkins and plastic utensils to get your own supplies.Lots of booths and a few larger tables in the two dining rooms. A large outdoor seating area as well. The fried clams ($26.99 MARKET PRICE) and the Haddock Reuben special ($13.99) were stupendous! The clams were lightly battered and flavorful, not chewy. The large sandwich was on the softest marble rye bread with a fried haddock fillet, cole slaw, Swiss cheese and Thousand Islands dressing. This place has been recommended to us for years and we're happy we finally made it there. Worth a stop.5 stars ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Some of the MidCoast's best fried seafood, for a long time Prices are a bit steep, but worth it if you love seafood. The big french fries and onion rings are awesome. Always fresh.

Love the Sea Basket! No, you don't get views. But the food is great and they had a great outdoor picnic area so we could sit there with our dog. The crab roll was amazing! Mariners know, this is the place for seafood in the midcoast!Kid-friendliness: Picnic area

This place was great. They were under staffed so the dining room was closed, but seating outside was plenty good for us. We wanted to eat at Red's Eats however, as per usual there was a line and we were hungry. So we hopped on down a little further (south on Route 1) and found the Sea Basket. And we were not disappointed at all. I had a bowl of haddock chowder and a crab roll. Boy that crab roll was huge and very tasty. The chowder was spot-on great. You won't go wrong stopping for a bite here, highly recommend.

Sweet convenient little spot just off Hwy 1. Sat outside. A good bit of road noise but good food and we went happily on our way. Good stopping point for road trips on Hwy 1.

Really nice! Only rated it 4 stars because of the price. I went a lot as a kid and just went back recently and it was just as good as I remember. Would definitely recommend the chicken fingers and the fried shrimp. Fries are crinkle cut so if that's not your thing go for the onion rings.

This is my absolute favorite seafood place! Whenever I visit the state I must stop here for fried scallops and haddock chowder. I seriously dream about this place year-round. If you're not big on seafood, the chicken tenders are also great. And don't forget to grab a whoopie pie on your way out!

The absolute worst crab roll I have ever had. It had no flavor and was served on a big french roll instead of a split top. Very disappointing. I should have just waited in the long line at Red’s and had something amazing.

Wow I don’t think I’ve ever gotten such a crazy amount of fried fish for such a reasonable price. This is definitely a deal. We ordered a jumbo haddock plate and could easy split it between 2 adults and 2 kids (age 6&4).Great food!
