After reading through other reviews, it’s clear that my experience wasn’t unique. Despite always paying rent on time, keeping the apartment spotless, and being patient through multiple maintenance issues — including a serious pest problem that management barely addressed — I too have fallen victim to what feels like a scam to make tenants pay for normal wear and tear.
I submitted detailed photos and proof that there was no real damage to the unit, yet once you move out, management stops responding, calls go unanswered, and you’re suddenly hit with unexpected charges — in our case, for “carpet replacement.”
It’s extremely disappointing, especially after being such responsible tenants. If you’re considering renting here, beware: even if your move-out inspection seems fine, you may still end up with a surprise bill and no willingness from management to resolve it.

Upon reading other reviews I now realize that despite always paying rent on time, being perfect model residents and being very understanding when issues arose- including a MICE INFESTATION that we barely were given help with- we have fallen victim to the scam that this property seems to be running where it is using its tenants to re-carpet the apartments. I have submitted proof that no significant damage took place but once you are no longer a resident here, they will ignore your calls and management will refuse to work with you. I wish I had read these reviews prior to leasing with McHenry row and for future tenants, beware that even if move out and inspection goes smoothly, you may be hit with a bill.

I have been living here for over a year and I understand that every apartment complex has its own issues. But one thing that has remained consistent is the service provided by management associate, Amberly. She has been incredibly responsive to our needs and also shows genuine care for our concerns to not just my partner and I but to everyone! Amberly’s presence and dependability is much appreciated!

I have lived at this property for a little over a year and a half. There have been issues along the way, of course. I would expect that. I will say though, Amberlee has been the saving grace for this property when it comes to my unit and my experience. Her ability to handle my concerns with care and honesty are McHenry Row’s saving grace in my opinion. I also enjoy when she is downstairs greeting folks, it makes my day light up. I appreciate her willingness to ask my tough questions to management rather than making guesses and not leading with sincerity which is what I experienced here prior to her starting at this property. Amberlee sets the bar pretty high, especially having replaced Niyah who was also a blessing to have at the property as well.

Upon move out the inspector said everything looked amazing and I should not have an issue, then I got notice they would not return my security deposit back and would actually be charging me on top of that to replace the carpet due to “wear and tear” which were two divots from my couch that I probably could have fluffed out easily had the inspector said anything. It seems they regularly use tenants to replace carpets upon move out. There was also a mice problem that management was unable to do anything about.

The location is the only saving grace of this apartment complex. Management does not know what they are doing, have confused my lease with others multiple times and tried to increase our rent by triple the amount on a mistake they made. The elevators in the building are constantly broken- this building is not ADA accessible because of this. The apartment is cheaply built as well- our dishwasher was superglued to the cabinet on our move in day; there are gaps in the walls from where they cut them too low; the fridge, shower, and dryer do not properly work; and there is water damage in the bathroom from the washing machine. The gate on the parking garage has also been broken 3 times in the last 9 months of me living here, as well as the front door to the building.
DO NOT MOVE HERE

Dont stay here- they make up damage that didnt exist, and charge you for it at move out- then take your deposit, and dont even follow up with you to tell you you had a charge.

After 8 months of a good experience, we started to deal with a very bad mice problem. There were droppings throughout our apartment, we would see them running across the floors and we could hear them in the walls in the middle of the night. This was for an apartment on the 6th floor!
We submitted several tickets to have the problem dealt with, but they were unable to fix the problem. They even went as far to “treat the walls” which indicated this was an issue they were used to having.
This issue got to the point where we could no longer stay in the apartment and we decided to early term our lease. The leasing team was unwilling to budge on the termination fee telling us that we should have “kept submitting tickets” and had their maintenance team frequent our apartment. For the rental fees they charge, you can get much better in the area.

I moved out of the McHenry Row Apartments one year ago and the move-out experience still troubles me. I was charged $400 to replace the carpet in my unit, and when I asked for proof of the carpet damages, I was provided with pictures from a unit that was not mine. It was very obvious that the unit wasn't mine as the layout was different. Plus, I had pictures of the carpet that I took at the time of move-in and move-out. Yet, McHenry Row/Greystar continued to state that I needed to pay a carpet replacement fee. I was highly disappointed by the entire experience as it felt predatory and disinguenous. So please be careful with renting apartments here, as they will likely add charges to your bill in order to keep your security deposit.

The location is key, it’s a safe area, & I rarely run into any suspect characters outside of the apartment complex. I appreciate how secure it is here!! The amenities are a plus, maintenance is very responsive, and the parking garage is a selling point. Remy and I love it here!!

Apartments are good, just unprofessional behavior from one of the staffers, I believe the name was Nya who didn't get me the right information.
