The Walters Art Museum is a beautiful and free museum located in the heart of Baltimore, steps from the Washington Monument. It is a nice gem in the city and a great place to do something for free. The museum is way bigger than expected with multiple floors and different exhibits, offering a stunning panorama of thousands of years of art from around the world. The collection is comprehensive, featuring not just traditional art but also art-adjacent exhibits like ancient Greek and Roman housewares, coins, temple facades, mummification artifacts, and a combination gun-sword. It is good for kids and those not into art for art's sake. Admission is always free, and the museum offers more than 300 programs every year including tours, performances, art-making, talks, and family activities. Special events are held on certain days and nights. Visitors can spend just a few moments or an entire afternoon. The building itself is a beautiful feature, reminiscent of other historic museums. The surrounding neighborhood is nice and safe. Free lockers are available near the entrance to store items. The museum also has a conservator window where visitors can hear about how pieces of art are conserved. It is a wonderful experience and highly recommended, whether you are in the neighborhood and want to pop in or are making a special trip.
