We’re so lucky to live around the corner from Nature Forward, it is an awesome place to explore. Our neighborhood doesn’t have sidewalks so it’s especially nice to be able to take our kids here and let them walk. The paved paths were done within the past year and are super smooth for the stroller. It’s always clean here and its great that there are two bathrooms available too.

My child attended one of their nature-themed birthday parties (the theme was "ponding") at Woodend Sanctuary and was mesmerized by the naturalist who led the party. The entire party was outdoors and so much fun.

I just had my wedding here! Beautiful grounds and facilities, we could not be any happier with the wedding and reception. I should also mention our caterers were Corcoran Caterers and the food they provided was excellent. Along with amazing drinks and wonderful staff.

Really nice trails and walking. Had a water fountain/bottle filler + bathrooms. Nice spot for birding. Parking was ample when we went.

The place is full of life, the plants, the animals, the trees, everything is so amazing. Definitely a place to walk around and have a good time.

I agree that the paths are nice and it is convenient. I was just really surprised to find they were spraying pesticides on the day I went. It seemed in opposition to the butterfly gardens, rain gardens, forest restoration signs, bug hotels, and bird nesting boxes.

Lots of new action at the ANS venue. Much like a metamorphosis, I can't wait to see the results!!

Beautiful space. The Audubon Naturalist Society offers a wide range of educational experiences for people of all ages. My mother often comes here to pick up her birdseed and sight see. The groundskeepers here do an amazing job at keeping the historical elements well preserved, while also taking into account the conservation of the natural elements.

We dropped by to visit the center and gift shop. The bird exhibit was amazing. We will return to explore the trails.

A favorite little spot for exploring, birdwatching, and taking some time to just be with the trees. With a great range of easy trails and beautiful nature, we find ourselves here at least once a week for a little time away from the hustle bustle. Honestly, I've never been in the buildings--we go here exclusively to wander the grounds and see how many wild animals we can spot. My little girl runs through the woods, climbing the trees, swinging from the vines, and hiding in the various forts built out of fallen branches. The trees are so huge and thick--particularly the tulip poplars--that you really do feel deep in the woods, even though you're right off the main drag. It's magical. The manicured grounds are lovely--not over done in the last, they actually have a bit of a decaying, slightly neglected feel to them but in a very cool way. The small maze in the cypress tree clearing is pretty cool, and the field with huge trees spaced far apart is perfect for a little hide-and-seek. Really and truly a great place to bring the kids, run around for a while, and have a picnic. We love it.

Just off of Rock Creek Park in Chevy Chase, Maryland is the Audubon Naturalist Society and the Woodend Sanctuary and Mansion. It's a historical society dedicated to the study of birds that Teddy Roosevelt was once part of. Today, it's a great place to take the family. There are several trails that go through the woods that are easy for all age groups to enjoy. The historic mansion is often used for events and weddings.
