After my dog was experiencing severe symptoms, we were able to schedule a last minute appointment a hour away from our home at this location. After being 15 minutes late because of the last minute appointment, and far drive, Mario at the front desk refused us. He was both rude and unkind. I explained the situation and that my dog was terribly ill. Instead of hearing me out he continued to cut me off and tell me they could not help us. A week later, my dog has now transitioned and is no longer with us. Although we were able to scramble something later at another ER that evening we did not get the full service that Banfield could have potentially provided before it was too late to help my precious Reign. RIP to my sweet sweet boy. I would NEVER recommend this place. No empathy or kindness. However banfield in ARUNDELL mills was so kind and gracious with us through the euthanizing process a few days later. The ARUNDELL Mills location was kind, understanding and very very helpful in the end.

I was hesitant to write this review because I love the vet that my pet sees (Dr. Hirsch is awesome!), but the reception was rude to my partner and I this morning (21 December) while trying to take care of an urgent issue. My dog has an infection on his neck which he was treated for yesterday and needed a cone to prevent him from scratching the wound. I went in at 0700 to see about getting a cone and the woman working asked me if I was a member already (I am). After that, I was told by reception that "PetSmart has cheaper and better quality cones". I expressed to her that I was willing to pay more for a cone from them because it was an urgent issue. She then asked me "Well do you have your pet here" to which I responded no. She then informed me that my pet would need to be there for them to give me a cone. I told her I would come back at 0900 when PetSmart opened to purchase one because I could not make other accommodations at that moment because I had to work.Fast forward 25 minutes, my partner was thankfully able to take time out of his morning to bring my dog in to receive the cone (because the reception told me that he needed to be present to get a cone from them). At this point, two ladies were at reception and told my partner that they didn't tell me that my dog needed to be there to get a cone, and that he would have to wait until 0900 when PetSmart opens to purchase one. *I had told the woman working at the front desk that I would come back at 0900. I needed to make arrangements at work*.At this point, I'm not sure why there was conflicting information coming from the front desk. The woman working told me that I needed my pet there to receive a cone, and then told my partner that she didn't say that to me. My partner asked them again (because again, this is an urgent issue that could cause a worse infection if not handled), to which the front desk told him with a rude tone to go pick out a cone and find a PetSmart employee.Thankfully he was able to find a very kind PetsHotel employee to assist him. She was very personable and understanding of the situation and was able to take care of him in a quickly manner. She even verified that the size of the cone would fit my dog.I have been going to Banfield at the Columbia location for 1.5 years now and have never encountered an issue with reception until this morning. It appears that they are new hires (I could be completely wrong) because I have not seen either employees at the countless appointments I have been to. The lack of empathy and quality of customer service was unacceptable for what I pay monthly for the OWP. I understand that everyone has rough days or mornings, but it is also unacceptable in this career field. I recommend better customer service training as I see I am not the only one to have written a review in this regard.

If I could give Banfield Columbia less than a 1 I would. I just called this am, 12/9 because my dog is not waking, not going potty, and lethargic. I was told because she was recently seen by 3 docs and they deemed her healthy - symptoms are worst BTW, that I need to take her somewhere else instead of the vet I see. I told her I have never heard of not being able to bring my dog to its vet. She said she only has 3 docs instead of 8 and no appointments until February. I am literally in shock. I have Banfield insurance but I will take my 2 dogs toAnother Vet who cares.

For 12 years This clinic have been my trusted hospital for my dog Max. Everything was great, professional and caring. However, in the last 6 months customer service is really poor. Appointments for the health plan are not available for months .Today 11/25/23,The individual at the front desk was not efficiently manage the issue.I am paying for a plan and services are not provided according to the contract.Looks like they do not care the well-being of the pets.. but only the money. Unacceptable!!!!

I like this place but it really needs improvements.Let’s start with some good things: their wellness plan is affordable and includes quite a lot. You get some big discounts on things through it as well. They don’t abuse the animals, a super low bar I know but one our previous vet location couldn’t pass. They’re in a GREAT location. Petsmart store aside, this little plaza is right next to just a ton in that area. Home Depot, thrift stores, wegmans, all right in that area. Their lobby only has three benches which are almost always being used and require you to stand. Not a problem when they are seeing people quickly but I’ve been standing for 30 minutes past my appointment time before being seen. One of my main complaints: it takes way too long to get an appointment for anything. They overbook themselves and it makes it so that their regular clients can’t get seen in any reasonable period of time. This alone makes me want to find a new vet.Next, they have no appointment reminder system! So they make you wait 4 months for your appointments without a card, email, or text that all other vets and facilities offer. I almost took off another star for this but the actual vet staff made up for that. The really dumb part is that SOMETIMES they will call a day or two before your appointment to confirm it but it seems they only do this when they are overbooked. They need to stop doing it unless they’re doing it for every appointment because you THINK you’re going to get a call about your appointment then you’ll never get one and end up missing the appointment. STOP CALLING INTERMITTENTLY. Management needs retrained if that’s their idea. You should be helping people make their appointments! not setting people up for failure. Especially people with disabilities! Shame. The vets and nurse staff are knowledgeable and professional but don’t seem to know very much about adjusting or correcting dog behavioral problems. I had been having an issue with my one dog for years. I have asked the vet about it without a solution since we first started going there. Then one day an employee at the petsmart pet hotel saw my dog one time and knew exactly what I needed to do. My dog has been cured! Why by a random person Why couldn’t my vet? I have no idea. Maybe it was super specific just to my dog and that petsmart employee had more knowledge. Maybe vets aren’t trained in animal behavior problems? All I would hear is, “see a trainer.” I’m not asking for dog training? I’m asking why my dog is behaving this way and what to do to help him.Every appointment just feels so rushed. I feel like I hardly get time sometimes for questions or just to talk to the vet about concerns at home. Is my animal healthy? I’m pretty sure, but there’s more to health than just your physical well-being. And the vets here are overworked and speeding through appointments. The nurses are always different at each appointment and don’t ever introduce themselves so how am I supposed to form a relationship with them about my pets either?Overall, a fine choice if you don’t want to do your homework on other vets in the area and just want to make sure your pet has somewhere for any emergencies. But if you want a place that takes the time to learn and understand about everyone they take care of, I recommend looking elsewhere. I feel like I am about to start driving over an hour to my vet from where I lived years ago just so I can get some quality service again.

Banfield was amazing in assisting us with sending our Nicki girl home and making sure our family as well as our baby was comfortable as she was laid to rest. A couple weeks later we received a personalized card from Banfield signed by all of the doctors and nurses which definitely brought smiles to a grieving family. Thank you Dr. Hirsch, Hayley, Karl, Katie, Caroline, Erika, Holly, and Patty. We appreciate everything you have done for our family and your thoughts during this time. Thank you!

This is my first Yelp review ever. I am just that furious and sickened by the lack of treatment my dying dog received and the treatment I received after his death. I had been taking my dog to BF and paying for his Wellness Plan for over 10 years. I can deal with the fact that he didn't receive the best of care, beginning when his regular vet didn't take the early signs that something was wrong back in December seriously. When I saw another vet at the same BF in March, those signs had worsened. The worst case scenario was mentioned to me, but it was recommended that I try supplements before a follow-up appt in April. Since I had never met this vet before, I made that appt with his regular vet and I was given the good news that all appeared well. A few weeks later, my dog suddenly became very ill.As expected, I was unable to get an appt for a sick dog although I was paying for "unlimited office visits" with his Wellness Plan. Since I wasn't willing to wait a month, I took him to a nearby hospital (then I was sent to to a hospital 30 mins away, and finally a hospital 45 mins away). In the end, those supplements were no match for the large, now inoperable tumor that surrounded his liver and then ruptured. Dealing with my dog's death and after spending thousand of dollars in those excruciating 2 days, BF still had to make their money grab. As others have mentioned, I was actually penalized hundreds of dollars for ending his Wellness Plan, you know, because my dog was dead. A death they certainly played a part in. I even had to point out to customer service that according to their numbers, my dog's death was actually saving them money since he wouldn't need the more expensive services included in his plan. In addition, BF raised their fees by almost $10 a month this past year, giving the usual excuse of "rising costs". Well, that extra money certainly didn't go to increasing staffing so their sick patients could get appts. But I'm guessing their CEO got a nice, fat bonus and their shareholders were paid handsomely. At this point, all I can say to this is, it is just SICK.R.I.P. to my best friend, Jack. You deserved better.

I HATE Banfield! There wellness plan is a scam. Their policies are d*** & pricing is ridiculous…. Why pay a monthly plan & still be overcharged for everything you take your dog in for. One of my dogs died & they won’t let me cancel his plan without a $250 cancellation fee. Stay away!Only thing good I’ll say, is the people on-site are usually very friendly & professional. (Only reason they got 2 stars)Don’t sign up, wouldn’t recommend. Find you a good local vet.
