The hospital staff is always compassionate and informative.\\nThe wait is minmal. Staying as a patient has been caring. The doctors take the lead in setting a very caring environment. Union's lab techs are just as kind and thoughtful as the nurses and doctors. Thank you for all of your selflessness.

Nice little hospital I think. Small town hospital if I ever saw one but looks decent enough.

Came to this hospital under unfortunate circumstances as my hubby's grandmother was passing away. She was brought into the er the night before, and when we left for the 1.5 hour commute at 10:30 the following morning we were told she was still in the er. Being unfamiliar with this hospital we parked on the street in a spot with a 2 hour time limit as the only destiginated er parking was labeled for physicians only. Inside there is a security screening, including a metal detector and empty pockets/purse search before we could enter. Masking was required. The er waiting room was very small with a separate area for those potentially with covid. By the time we arrived she was admitted although she did stay in the er overnight. However you can't get to the main hospital from the er and we had to go back outside, move the car to a free adjoining parking garage and enter thru the main entrance. They only required masks and didn't preform a security check. The patient was critical and on morphine. It was only a matter of time. When I inquired we were told she could last an hour or several. Everything was very clinical. They didn't soften the lights, play relaxing music or provide any end of life care other than the morphine. They did allow someone to stay overnight if necessary. At one point someone wheeled in complimentary coffee and rice crispy treats. The several hours we were there they only came in twice more when she was still alive, once when the doctor changed shift. The new doctor introduced himself and that was it. He didn't even glance at the patient. A nurse came in later and administered another dose of morphine. She was very matter of fact when she spoke to the family and not empathic. I stepped out to pick up lunch when she took her last breath. They pronounced her and left us be giving us an hour until they said they needed to take her downstairs. The conversation after was all business, what funeral home should be call etc Overall it was very impersonal. I don't know if it was because the family decided against hospice services, but I felt they vould have a least offered us a visit from a clergyman or social worker. I know death is just a normal day at the office for the medical staff but it would have been nice is more effort was put forth to make her passing more peaceful and less routine.

My mother is having chest pains and they just made her wait over 5 hrs in the waiting room. She's had a heart attack in the past so you would think they would take it seriously. Go to Christiana if you can, it may save your life.

The Staff at Union Hospital can't get any worst! Whoever gave it a high rating in the reviews are outright lying or staff's family, etc. If it's not an extreme emergency DO NOT go to Union Hospital in ELKTON!! As a spectator, I watched differential treatment of patients of color as well as damn right rudeness to the sick seeking help!! . It's shameful and pathetic. All the staff need to be replaced by caring professionals with compassion for all people regardless of race, religion or gender!

I was in the ER for a traumatic, life-threatening situation yesterday. Everyone was so kind and helpful. My nurse, Allen was the absolute best. Bedside manner was fantastic. Dr. Brooks was great. The nighttime CNA ( I forget her name) was awesome and so caring. I had to get an emergency surgery and the nurses in the OR (Denise and her team) are outstanding and Ali in recovery was an absolute angel. Thank you all so much for making an unbearable situation manageable.

I finally found a psychiatrist that could help me about 10 years. In January my appointment was cancelled an hour before with no explanation. As it turns out the practice says "he is no longer with us." He WAS the practice and now has mysteriously disappeared. I've been assigned to a nurse practitioner that I am NOT happy with.... back to the drawing board!!!

This was by far the worst hospital experience I've ever dealt with in my life. My fiance went in to be treated for a high risk rabies bite. The bite was deemed high risk by a veterinary hospital connected to the University of Pennsylvania -- the animal in question was exhibiting strong signs of having rabies and, since it bit a human, had to be euthanized by law. We were told to get a rabies vaccine ASAP, but unfortunately that night we went to two hospitals that were severely and dangerously understaffed in the city and would have had to wait indefinitely. Since the CDC advises that you need the vaccine ASAP but within 24 hours, we decided to do this early the next day. Bear in mind that he is uninsured and we were willing to pay out of pocket for a vaccine, however much it costs without insurance, because his life was in jeopardy. We went to the ER at Union Hospital hospital in Maryland, as it was convenient on the way to a work event and we figured the wait time would be short. The entire time he was there, he was treated to stories of "a woman came in the other week who had waited three weeks after being bit to get her shots and she was fine!", some coming from nurse staff and some from intake staff. Symptoms of rabies can show at 3 weeks at its earliest, and when symptoms have appeared, it is TOO LATE and the illness has a VERY HIGH DEATH RATE. I highly doubt this woman was "fine," but as far as vitals she checked out okay and was able to be released from their hospital. While my fiance was there, at no point did he see a doctor; he saw nurse staff that brought him through the ringer about getting a rabies post-exposure vaccine. They called the 24 hour vet and said there was "no proof" that the animal was there or that it had rabies (I was able to obtain this information with a simple email); they called the Health Boards of MD and PA, the latter of which spoke to him to say that "it's his choice to get the shots now but he has more time to do so" (which is inconsistent with what the CDC says), but the nurses at Union Hospital took this to mean that it's "policy" not to give the rabies shots now, and that they're "just following policy" -- even though what the Health Board actually said was that he could choose to do it now or a little later. At no point did he see a doctor, just incompetent nurse staff that did not seem to know or care about the scope of the issue and how deadly this was. I feel in my gut that this is medical malpractice, and only hope that other patients at this hospital who are in similar situations receive the care they need instead of being denied it. We were finally able to go to another hospital, Virtua Hospital in New Jersey, who let us in right away and gave him the shots he needed. I am floored by the unfair and unjust treatment he received at Union Hospital. He's uninsured and was going to pay out of pocket anyway -- why deny him something that could save his life?
