Mount Olivet Cemetery is a historic 19th century cemetery and a prime example of an old time garden style cemetery. It is the resting place of many historic figures, including Francis Scott Key, Barbara Fritchie, Thomas Johnson, and President John Hanson. Many Civil War veterans from both sides, politicians, and local heroes are also buried here. The property is very large, beautiful, and picturesque with immaculate grounds, a well paved road for cars, and signs throughout that give context to its rich history dating back to 1852. It is a walk in history with more than a full day's worth of walking to see all the pre-1930 headstones. The cemetery is well marked and welcomes visitors. There is a large map at the entrance showing burial sites as well as a computer to find specific locations. The site features a small chapel, very clean restrooms, and a cemetery office in a Victorian home. This privately owned, working cemetery in the city of Frederick is a quiet, peaceful, and historic gem. Visitors are encouraged to help keep the grounds immaculate. Some visitors have noted the entrance kiosk is not working and have expressed concern about dogs running free without leash signs.
It was a really nice place and it is very well kept

We were amazed by the brightness and cleanliness of most of the older stones. Haven't seen this much before, but the efforts of the restoration project are working! This cemetery holds a wealth of history and comes highly recommended for both history and paranormal enthusiasts!

This place has some beautiful pieces. Not as many as I would have hoped for but there are definitely some hidden gems.
