Thank you so much for making my intro into free climbing, so enjoyable. When the owner helps you get your rentals and is working the desk himself you know you’re in the right place after talking with him for about 10 minutes you can tell how much love he put in the place building it himself. not only can you tell, but you can feel it in every run This place is amazing with a super friendly staff. It’s a must go from beginner level all the way to expert. I guarantee you will have fun and many challenges.

Used to go to this gym daily during covid, but hadn’t gone in several years! I came back and they’ve made some awesome renovations and changes. This is small family-run business that is run really well; it might not be as swanky as some multimillion dollar facilities, but there is a very friendly vibe and very few jerks. The Boulder Yard really has amenities for everybody: a bright communal space in the lobby, a small (but very well equipped) gym, cardio machines, and a studio with yoga classes. Looking forward to coming back again soon:)

Boulder Yard is such a great environment — fantastic climbing routes, helpful staff, and a strong community vibe with no judgement. Great spot for all skill levels and a wonderful option for holistic well being, especially if you want to avoid negative gym culture. Well worth the visit!

Appreciated the uniqueness of some of the routes and there's a good mix of styles. The gym is small but I think I'm just spoiled with the size of my home gyms in NYC

Front desk bro is rude and dismissive; gyms don’t smell like roses, but smells like someone’s skipped cleaning more than once. Cool concept, subpar execution.

A ton of fun. Very difficult runs, but the staff was great. It is a workout.

The staff at the Boulder Yard deserve a 6 star rating! Everyone there is knowledgeable and friendly, and can work with climbers of all experience levels. The climbs change often, and even the most difficult have an aspect of fun. Since opening, the Boulder Yard has been expanding, and improving, and there are no signs of stopping!Besides the climbing area, the exercise equipment, yoga studio, and martial arts dojo are top notch. Our family(ages 6-43) plan on continuing to use and support the Boulder Yard because it is undoubtably the BEST climbing gym in Frederick County!

The kids and I have been taking classes for a few weeks now. Parking is easy, The staff is helpful, laid-back, and encouraging. There are tons of great deals and lots of packages to pick from for extra discounts. None of us have ever climbed before but from our experience so far this will likely become a long-term hobby. It's great that all of us and be there challenging ourselves and encouraging each other at the same time.

Very nice exercise area. Lots of walls and routes to take and seems to be friendly for beginners through experts. Didn't partake in any classes, but the open floor to go where you want can be a little daunting for those who haven't been there or bouldered before.

This is the best rock climbing gym in Maryland. The community is great, the setting is very good. Very clean gym. Great staff.

The flooring here is great, super soft landings. The climbing is really fun and challenging with a good variety of wall angles. Joe at the front was really helpful. Great place, the new walls have really added a lot to the experience.

Boulders are poorly set up. Walls will have multiple climbs of the same exact color set up right next to each other and the route is not immediately clear. There are many random colored holds on the wall of previous climbs that no longer exist (seems like they are were too lazy to remove them). Many of the routes that are below v2 are VERY short climbs that can be done in 1-2 moves (route setters seem to think that a shorter climb is the only way to achieve a low grade). The mats on the floor are also very poorly set up. They overlap in some spots creating huge bumps in the ground and in other spots there are “dead zones” making it an unsafe fall if anyone does land there. In addition, there is a clear lack of down handles (only saw 1 in the whole gym). Some of the volumes literally look like they were made from concrete.

Great place for climbing, I’ve been coming here for about a year and the climbs are always able to challenge me from the first day I came to today. The staff are always very friendly as well as everyone else

I started climbing at TBY in the Fall of 2019 and have been climbing there ever since. When the pandemic hit Steve (the owner) really went into overdrive in revamping the gym and making plans for expanding the climbing space. After various wall additions the gym is surrounded on three sides by a variety of bouldering walls with a shared space in the center for climbers to hang out, socialize and rest up before their next attempt. This is a true community gym where it’s easy to get to know other climbers and make friends. The staff is always welcoming and there’s always someone ready to help if you have questions or want some advice on a climb. I’ve been to a few different bouldering gyms in the area and there’s nothing they offer that I can’t get at TBY, but there are definitely aspects of climbing at TBY that I don’t get at other gyms. I have the most fun when I’m climbing with a supportive group of people and you won’t find a better bunch than the evening crowd at TBY.If you want to see the climbs for yourself you can check out my Instagram page at BoulderYardBeta. This is a page I run (totally independent from the gym) for fun just to showcase the climbs at the gym and the community having fun sharing their videos.
