Amazing service, everything was fast and easy, Manager was polite and nice, explained everything and we were able to see the unit before renting, everything looked clean and at the end with got a whole month free!

To make a long, unhappy story short: We had no problem renting a unit or setting up automatic payments. Went back a few days later with a set of steel shelves, a couple of boxes of stuff, and a new padlock. The staffer on duty had to go upstairs with us because there was a company padlock on the unit. We also had trouble getting our entry code to work but couldn't talk to anyone because the office closed at least 15 minutes early -- plus we had to leave via the "emergency" stairs due to the elevator not working, leaving another family trying to unload a large SUV stranded -- and no one answered the "emergency" phone number (we tried it).

Mom & I went back today with another shelving unit & a carload of boxes, arrived just after 3pm to find the office locked & no staff present, with "back at 4" on the door. We get upstairs with our stuff to find it uncomfortably warm... and find one of the small company padlocks on our unit. We went back downstairs & waited for the staffer to reopen the office a few minutes before 4pm. She checked the computer and asked repeatedly if we had the right unit number, found no billing problems, but there was a note we had "moved out." After telling us they never move people out unless the unit was empty, she went back upstairs with us to unlock the unit and our shelves, 2 boxes of stuff, and our lock had vanished into thin air.

We went back downstairs and the young woman called someone and had them check some things on a computer, then did more work on her computer... and then told us she had just found a handwritten note on a piece of paper saying she had called my mother sometime earlier (we could not get any dates from her) and that my mother had told her we were "moving out" -- a discussion we can guarantee *never* happened. We finally just repacked the car and left; I'm going to check with a lawyer but I can guarantee we will NOT do business with SSP ever again. (Another family member has a smaller unit there and is now thinking of leaving.)

I know a lot of Google reviews of SSP have responses from the company asking people to send them email, but unless our shelves, our lock, and our money can magically be made to reappear I doubt that will do any good.

The staff are very nice. The location is very convenient. The only problem is they up your rate every 6 months. Get for a short time storage needs. If the rates stayed the same, I would have given it a 5 star rating.

The new manager at the Gaithersburg location 9107 Gaither Rd, Gaithersburg, MD 20877. Just added $5.00 on my bill of $165.00. the invoice doesn't show the breakdown of why and where the $5.00 came from. It seems that he want to buy his cigarette with it. I know that these storage's changed manager every now and then but the people they choose are not professional at all. They are rude, unprofessional and dishonest. And when you asked they say it is not in their hand to fix the problem so as a customer you should contact the head office. I hope this review brings the attention of the head office to statraining their employees.

Getting a storage unit with this company was an absolute nightmare. I booked online originally for their Paramount location. The day we were to move in I show up expecting an office to go into but there wasn’t one. Called the corporate customer service and was advised I needed to go to the main location on Gaither Rd. (I was never advised I needed to first go to the Gaither location to receive access information when setting up my rental online). Fine, I go and receive an access code. We get everything into a uhaul and go to our unit to find it still locked and completely blocked by abandoned cars. Call customer service and was redirected to the Gaither location where it went to voicemail. We go back to the Gaither location and it’s completely locked (mind you it’s barely 10/10:30a and I was just there in the last hour) so we wait for Carl to come back at 11a. At this point we explain the situation and ask if they have a unit at the Gaither location we can transfer our rental (seeing as we have a uhaul full of stuff and can’t access the unit we paid for) to a unit at the Gaither location. At no point were apologies made or solutions provided to us, not even a “sorry for the inconvenience”. In fact Carl was less than enthusiastic to assist us. And were initially told “well it will be a LOT more expensive” - when in reality seeing as the reason we couldn’t access the original unit was entirely the fault of the company they could have worked with us a bit more in this. It’s as if they didn’t want our business. We did eventually get a unit and moved our stuff in, we were told the manager would call the following Monday to finish setting up the account. Unfortunately they never called and once again we realized we didn’t have access information to our unit. We went back to the store the following weekend under the advisement the office was open 9-5a (in writing from the office via emails and as displayed on the office building). Showed up right at 9a only to wait for 30mins+ before anyone showed up to open the office. We then again spoke to Carl, paid the difference between the unit at the Gaither location and the Paramount location and seeming thought everything had been sorted. Now as I’m checking to see when our payment is due the system tells me “no rental unit for payment” and I have never gotten a call from the manager. Hopefully we will get the online account sorted however the lack of customer service has been astounding. Would not recommend.

I rented a unit and the service is terrible. Got past that and tried to rent a bigger unit at a new location and the service is terrible. I called and the service on the phone was terrible. Decided to go with a different provider.

I rented a storage unit and when I went to the office to get the information I needed to access my storage unit, No one was in the office and it was closed but it was supposed to be open according to the customer service line. I called the customer service center multiple times and they just kept telling me somebody would call me back and nobody did. the next day I got a call from the manager apologizing For the employee not showing up and I did let her know that I wanted to cancel the unit because I ended up having to go with another unit. She stated that I would be refunded and the unit would be canceled and I never got my refund, but when I emailed they told me they don’t do refunds this place is unprofessional and unorganized, and I suggest going with another storage unit , that isn’t as messy is this one it’s not worth it and definitely not worth the price or promotions.
