I can't believe this company is in business. We were billed over 2000 for a test my doctor said would cost less than 100. It's taken more than 3 months to get a reply from anyone at the company. The results weren't helpful to us although that is not my issue

I've been waiting over 12 weeks for an important test result and all I have received is the run around by this company. They keep telling me they can't get a hold of my insurance company, but I can within 5 minutes of calling on the phone. When I call they act like it's my job to do their job and are very rude. Akron Childrens needs to find a new lab to work with.

I really don't understand why people say that they are not doing well but my doctor's staff told me that I'm going to get my results back through my doctor so I'm just letting people know that if a doctor is the one who did anyone's referral so the only person that could tell you the results is the doctor.

I have contacted GeneDx customer support line multiple times, as well as reached out on instagram. Every time we speak, I am told my concerns will be forwarded to a higher manager, and yet no one gets back to me. I was assured by my son's genetic counselor that I would be notified if my copay was over $100 before the test was ran. I was never contacted to give my consent, and the next thing I know, I was getting results and a bill for $600. I just keep being told that when my health benefits were ran, it showed $0, and then oops- it was actually $600. I would have never consented to his sample being tested knowing I owed $600. This is a flaw within your company and policy and something neither myself or our hospital system could have controlled. My out of pocket max is one thing, but the fact that customer reports on the Better Business Bureau show you did this to other families that left them with $6000 bills is beyond shameful. I expect to be contacted by a manager about this situation, as it is absurd to expect me to pay over $100, when I was not privy to give consent for any dollar amount over.

Dubious quoting before knowing what your insurance will actually cover. So your bill will be higher. Worthy of their current review score.

This company is absolute garbage. I was referred by a geneticist at Children’s Hospital. They “diagnosed” my daughter with a genetic disorder but for months we’ve been trying to get a follow up test from them and they can’t do it because the green top tube is back ordered. Initially they told us that this test was necessary. They sent a phlebotomist who barely managed to draw blood from my 4 month old, and then after all that they went and LOST the sample. Now they are saying they don’t really need to do the test, which is an unethical and dishonest way of weaseling out of completing testing for which my insurance has already rendered full payment. I work in healthcare and I am well aware that there is no shortage of test tubes. They are simply incompetent, unfit, and untrustworthy. I’ve wasted hours calling and messaging this company and trying to get my provider to give me some sort of guidance. This is a prime example of why a small for-profit company should not be used by hospitals to perform important testing. I don’t even trust the initial diagnosis they gave us frankly. I am seriously considering getting a lawyer and filing a lawsuit. At the very least they are committing fraud by collecting payment from insurance for testing that they have not completed in full.

My son has very complex medical needs and this is BY FAR the worst company we have had to interact with at any point in his care. I personally took the time to appeal my insurance company's denial of the original testing claim all the way up to a state level 3rd party review and won. The insurance company wants to pay the total amount owed, and I can't get GeneDx to provide me a current invoice so it can be paid. Instead, they want ME to pay a discounted total out of pocket. Why...would I do that when the insurance is ready to pay the full cost. They make it impossible to interact with a supervisor or management and straight up lie directly to you to get you off the phone. I have been promised a phone call "within 48 hours" to resolve my issue SIX TIMES in the past six month. Have never received a phone call. The front line call center people are very rude, but I can't say that I blame them, since management does not empower them to appropriately escalate concerns. I was repeatedly told that they are blanket not allowed to escalate any calls via phone. Customers must await a phantom call back from management that never comes.I am totally at the end of my rope with this company. I am now reaching out to all of my son's doctors to beg them not to use this facility for testing ever again. This has been worse than dealing with pharmaceutical approvals and insurance, which is saying a lot.My next step is to figure out what agency regulates this kind of testing company and lodge whatever formal complaints I can. Truly, truly, the worst treatment I have ever received from any company at any time in my life.

I am a former employee of this company and this was an absolutely toxic environment to work in. There is a LOT of favoritism here and if you’re not well liked they will start to nitpick everything you do and find reasons to get rid of you. Training is disorganized and inadequate. Save yourself the trouble and don’t work here.

This review is in regards to a genetics televisit appointment on December 29th, 2021 and genetics testing through GeneDx. Dr. Natalie Hauser confirmed no cost will be incurred for the appointment and testing since I have already met my deductible. Received a $400 bill in the mail in March 2022. Contacted Dr. Hauser and she stated, "Yes, even though your deductible was met, there was an expected OOP when GeneDx checked on your benefits, but they should have reached out to you to let you know the amount and ask if you were okay with it before proceeding with the test". Please note, GeneDx NEVER called me about the expected out of pocket pay, and if I known it would cost me $400, I would not have taken the genetics test. Called GeneDx on March 18th, 2022 and spoke to Lee. I asked why GeneDx did not notify me of the cost before testing. Lee mentioned Aetna responded to the claim on February 24th, 2022 (after testing was done) and received an explanation of benefits explaining my responsibility is $400. Lee also mentioned this is because I did not meet my deductible as the testing was done on 1/20/2022. Proceeded to call Aetna on March 18th, 2022 and spoke to Chloe. She confirmed Dr. Hauser submitted the claim and did NOT explain as to why I was tested and hence why there is a $400 out of pocket expense. Aetna needed to know why there was a need for the testing and Dr. Hauser should have included in notes for this claim. Chloe then proceeded to submit a claim and in turn the Aetna Claims Department will reach out to Dr. Hauser to provide an explanation as to why I needed genetics testing done. Chloe mentioned I should hear of an update soon and should be corrected in two weeks. Aetna will then contact GeneDx of the correction and eliminate the out of pocket expense. Based on the negative experience, misinformation and bad business practice from Dr. Hauser and GeneDx, I strongly recommend potential clients to research and seek other legitimate and credible genetics doctor and testing services. If you have no other option but to go through GeneDx for genetics testing, I highly recommend you take the initiative to call GeneDx to confirm the out of pocket expense. Please note, there are similar reviews posted by former patients that experienced the same issue and fraudulent tactics from GeneDx.

Disgusting company. I had some bloodwork sent to this lab and I received a bill in the mail for thousands of dollars worth of testing. They hadn't billed my insurance at all and when I called their billing department to resolve the issue and update my insurance with them. They tried to tell me on 3 separate occasions that I was responsible for the full amount and that they would not take my insurance after the test had already gone through. I had to call my insurance company to make them take my insurance. Absolutely ridiculous.

What an absolutely horrendous company. I used to work there and the values were much different (albeit, the pay was terrible, you’re overworked, undervalued, and definitely overlooked for anyone louder and more aggressive than you). That being said, they at least supported those who stuck around. Until management changed. Recent grads: DONT WORK HERE. They will suck the life out of you and convince you that science isn’t your passion anymore. You can do better! Take a look at the current group of chief officers…not really reflective of scientists in this country. Oh, and Dean is the worst

Terrible service. Spending hours just to get a medical claim filled out. If you can use different company do it. This one provides nothing but troubles.

Horrible!! Took months to get my results. Then took another 6 months or more to get my bill. Called immediately to set up a payment plan. They never set it up so I received a second notice bill. Decided to pay in full and then I got a final notice of collection! Called and spoke with some who had no clue what they were doing. They were really hard to understand. Kept repeating the same 3 sentences (script I'd assume) and wouldn't let me speak to a manager. They said a manager would return my call. It's been a week and still no call. How is a place like this even in operation?? Scraping the bottom of the customer service barrel for sure. I've seen so many horror stories about their billing and losing samples. Please shut this place down or fire everyone and start over.
