Staying at the 1828 Trail Inn was the best part of our bike trip along the Western Maryland Rail Trail. Joe is the perfect Host, the accommodations were wonderful as well as breakfast. Joe is very considerate of any dietary concerns and really goes the extra mile to make your stay pleasant. The Inn is bike friendly having a secure outbuilding to keep your bikes in, complete with tire pumps in case you need air for your bikes and it's only a short block from the trail.Nearby activities: Western Maryland Rail Trail, C & O Canal Trail.Walkability: Bike trails are a short walk (or ride) across the street. The town of Hancock is good for walking around.Food & drinks: Buddy Lou's is a great restaurant just across the street.

I was biking with 3 friends across the GAP & C&O trail. The Trail house inn was the perfect location to stay the night. The place is beautiful and Joe was so accommodating. He has a bike shop to take care and store our bikes. He had cold Gatorade when we got there after a long 64 mile ride. Joe made a wonderful breakfast for us before we headed off in the morning. He even gave us some homemade banana muffins for the road. Thank you Joe for a awesome stay!

Stayed here during a C&O bike trip and had an outstanding experience. All of the towns along the C&O are friendly to bike tourists, but Joe was truly next level. Highly recommend for bike trips *and* for any other travel in or around the Hancock area.

Don't look anywhere else - just come here!Joe, the owner is one of the most thoughtful and generous people I've ever met! Everything was designed to make a weary cyclist feel welcome and taken care of. He gave me a hose to wash my bike off, took my water bottles to wash and fill with water, has free gatorade, free laundry facilities, and even gave me a ride down the road to a restaurant before handing me an umbrella in case it rained on my walk back. And the breakfast! OMG such beautifully prepared and served food! He makes muffins every morning, the coffee was excellent, and the 2-course breakfast was amazingly tasty and filling. He's just a couple of blocks off the trail, so it couldn't be more convenient. If I'm ever in this part of Maryland again, I'll go out of my way to stay again - six stars if I could give it - and Joe - you have my thanks for the best stay so far on my cycle-tour.

Best accommodations on the C&O! Stayed there for one night during a bike trip. Not only do they have a great setup for bike cleaning and storage, but our host, Joe, was out there helping us clean our bikes. Rooms are VERY spacious, clean, well-equipped, and comfortable. Beds and linens are super comfy. Bathrooms are huge and well stocked. Breakfast was fantastic and you won't go away hungry. Perfect location just a block from the trail and right across the street from an awesome restaurant (Buddy Lou's). After leaving, I realized that I left a jacket at Buddy Lou's. Joe retrieved it for me and sent it back to my home. Can't say enough about the house, the rooms, and Joe!

Great place to stay! I agree with all the other reviews - Joe is friendly, accommodating and has pretty much thought of everything to make your visit comfortable and enjoyable, ESPECIALLY for cyclists. Jacuzzi tub, bike tools and storage, laundry, Gatorade, a great front porch, close to the trail and restaurant. The breakfast is EXCELLENT including the coffee which is hard to find good coffee on the trail. He gave us muffins for the trail which hit the spot. I would definitely return. Don’t be put off by the fact they don’t have a website and can’t reserve online.

My husband and I stayed here last week while biking the GAP/C&O. Highly recommend for anyone doing that trip, or anyone in Hancock for any other reason! There’s secure bike storage with tire pumps/a hose to prep your bike for the next day’s ride. We stayed in what I believe was the Rail room or something to that effect, which was extremely comfortable and had big tub, private balcony, and TV equipped for our streaming services. There is also a nice laundry room available with a fridge stocked with free Gatorade. Most importantly, the homemade breakfast was delicious, and Joe is a warm and friendly host! Hope to be back for sure.

Biking by Hancock, we stayed at the 1828 Trail Inn and had a relaxing and comfortable visit. Host Joe, met us out back for bike washing and stowage in the garage. Cold beverages were available, as was a nice laundry room. Buddylou's, just down the street was excellent for patio dining. Breakfast at the inn was one of the best of the ride with fresh-made dishes. This place will definitely be on our return list!

Joe and Carla have truly thought of everything that would make a cyclist's trip on the C&O trail comfortable. My dad and I stayed here on the way from Pittsburgh to DC and it was a highlight of our trip. Joe greeted us with a hose to wash down our bikes after a particularly dusty ride. He cleaned and refilled our water bottles for us, and even offered to pick up food for us at the grocery store when he was picking up ingredients for breakfast the next day (which was delicious). The house is beautiful and filled with old books that would be lovely to read by the fire on a fall day. I'm looking forward to planning a future trip to Hancock to stay here again!
