I don’t usually write reviews, but my experience with this H&R Block has been incredibly frustrating and disappointing. As a military family, we trusted them with our 2021 tax filing, only to regret it. Despite paying extra fees for protection in case of errors, we were later told that those fees don’t apply, and now we have to pay again.
We recently received a letter from the IRS stating they never received our 2021 tax return. I contacted the H&R Block office in La Plata on February 7, 2025, to investigate the issue. That evening, they told me they had started preparing the necessary paperwork. They also assured me that my paperwork would be completed by Sunday, February 9. It is now February 23, and I am still waiting for the only available tax preparer to hand me the documents—documents that only require a signature. However, I’ve been told I have to wait, and they can’t give me an exact timeframe—maybe an hour, maybe longer—because they are busy.
The IRS deadline is just days away, and this paperwork must be mailed promptly to avoid penalties and interest, yet I am stuck waiting due to H&R Block’s inefficiency. The lack of urgency and accountability is unacceptable. I would strongly advise others to think twice before trusting this location with their taxes.

I had a negative experience there, specifically with one person, and not the entire business. Patricia Teal did our taxes in 2020 and she pulled a very sneaky move. When trying to decide if it would be more advantageous to itemize or not, she informed us that we’d get back more money if we itemized. So, because we were inexperienced and trusted that she would steer us straight, we listened to her advice. It wasn’t until I was checking out that I realized what she’d done. There was a higher cost to itemize (which she didn’t mention), and that meant we would actually “get back” LESS money than if we went standard. It wasn’t a huge difference, but it was the principle. I’m sure she was well aware of what she was doing, since this is her job. Please be forewarned. There are plenty of other decent tax consultants in La Plata. H&R Block overcharges too.
