Knew I had reservation upon arrival, yes, the noise level is high due to wood floors etc, but you can be heard - and it was nice to see the restaurant busy! Waitress spent time discussing jobs, and being busy etc. The Charles has a theatre menu, which many of the table used, I went with all APPS, Oyster Rockefeller was hot and tasty, Tuna Tartare, again well plated, and large portion. All plates were nicely served and nice portions. Have been here multiple times, and does not disappoint!

The back of the house needs to get its act together. We ordered a salad with flat iron steak and a single crab cake plate—took over an hour, so we canceled the order when the bartender told us he's still waiting on it. This place has gone off the rails....we've been going here under different ownership and naming since 2003. Please fix it.

We had been to The Charles a while ago. We went again because the last time the food was great, it had an upscale atmosphere and was relatively quiet. We prefer an upscale restaurant with great tasting and flavorful food, a nice atmosphere, a bit of space (between us and the next table), and reasonably quiet for talking to one another. We don't mind paying well for any of these in a nice restaurant. It was all of these things the last time we were here. This visit, the actual dining area, was VERY LOUD! LOUD beyond being at a noisy bar or childrens play area in the mall, for that matter. Actually, their bar area was pretty quiet. We know because you now have to check in for your reservation in the bar area. I'm not a fan of this! Please consider people who don't want to go to a bar for various reasons. The table was for two (which we were) and jammed ridiculously close between two other tables. The way the table was situated, you are seated pretty far across from the person you are sitting with. I could touch the table next to us. It's not a great set-up for dinner conversation unless you don't speak or hear one another. Unfortunately, there were also a few large parties that were EXTREMELY LOUD! I'm pretty sure they didn't rent the entire restaurant but they did act like it. Once we were seated, we considered leaving immediately. We decided to stay because the food was so good last time. Well, it's not the same. Honestly, I don't know where to start, but even one of our past favorites, the simple but amazing Hummus appetizer, was just ok. My husband's food was beyond horrible. I've never seen my husband refuse to eat a meal. I tried his and completely agreed. It had zero taste. Apparently, they possibly forgot the sauce that goes on it. Mine was just ok. Polenta seems to be a big part of the meals here, which I usually enjoy. It shouldn't be the main portion or focus. They took his off the check, and my husband left hungry. I hope they improve.

Alright familia, gather 'round for a tale of taste-bud ecstasy at The Charles in La Plata, Maryland! ? Let me just say, if craft cocktails were a movie, this place would win Best Picture. First off, let's talk about those kung pao brussel sprouts. I mean, who knew brussel sprouts could be the life of the party? They're like little flavor explosions in your mouth, with a spicy kick that'll make you do a happy dance right there in your seat. We love it even more since my husband with Alpha Gal can eat it. He no longer has to watch me enjoy food, he can join in too. And don't even get me started on the craft cocktails - they're like liquid magic concoctions designed to make you forget all your worries. ?

It was nice. I would have preferred, since I made a reservation, a small table for two verses a table for 4. The mash potatoes could have been warmer(short rib entree) But overall it was very good.

We had a very enjoyable time . My second time here in two weeks . This time we were with another couple going to see the play Accross the street. How great that they had a theater menu ❤️ the food is always wonderful . The service always spot on . My only thing I would say is that we were served our salads and then out came our main meal ! No time to really eat our salads ?♀️ The server needed to take note of where the table was . We felt very rushed . And didn't need to as we allotted plenty of time to eat dinner and walk Accross the street to the theater . ?

One of the best hidden gems of Charles County. I've been coming here for years and the quality of food, menu selection are always top notch. You can always count on having made to order food with fresh ingredients sprinkled with great customer service. I've attended many “Ladies Nights” and Happy Hours as well as a quick bite with my Mother for lunch or Saturday or Sunday brunch. Yesterday was my first time back since the renovation and all I can say is “wow” the decor, the new menu everything is amazing. My water was awesome and I'm kicking myself because I can't remember his name, he recommended the crab cake and it was delicious. I spied on a few tables and the shrimp and grits looked delicious so I'll be trying that on my next visit. Special shout to the wonderful staff and managers Millian and Darrin, great guys and the establishment speaks for itself under their management. Last but certainly not least, Zach the bartender is extremely nice and makes a great drink or cocktail...5 stars!

The experience was a pretty good experience. The service from our waitress was super great!! The drink she suggested was amazing, and the food was ok. The sirloin tips pasta, just had a gravy on it. I would have liked to see it made differently, but the steakntips were tender. My husband said his crab cakes were good. The lettuce wraps were flavorful but could have used more lettuce and firmer lettuce the lettuce we received were too soft (wilted) with no crunch. The ambiance is mediocre as well as being too cluttered. I can't even say that it was cozy because we were sooo close to other tables it was hard to have a conversation when you can clearly hear others conversations. Would we go back... umm I can't say 100% for sure but my husband stated he may want to try their brunch

The food at The Charles is phenomenal and affordable. The ambience is relaxed and welcoming to all. The different eating/seating areas are well-designed and spacious. Dining at The Charles is an experience that can be had for special occasions, date night, family outing, corporate socials, or friendly gatherings.

They have the best brussel sprouts I've ever had! The Charles is definitely one of the top 5 restaurants in Charles County!

Atmosphere is lovely. Lunch menu at 3PM was okay, some of the same items but not a lot of updates over the last year. Would appreciate dinner menu option at 3PM but it doesn't start until 4PM. Staff was very nice but slow.

The Charles continues to upgrade the ambiance. It started as a “saloon” type bar with bar food, then upscale to bar/restaurant. Now, it's one grade below linen service and has a beautiful gourmet market and wine/spirits cellar. The food is good but don't look for buffalo wings anymore. Service was a little slow even though there weren't many tables but a nice spot for dates and drinks.
