“Id say this is a hidden gem near Frederick. My friend told me about this place. I paid a visit. After I picked my car, the first scene was the lotus pond. It is small but with scents. I mean the pond is rectangular like an ordinary pond. But the flowers planted in and around the pond is what makes it so different. First you will see an arch with vines which lead you to see the tall blooming lotus. You walk around the garden you will see the owner spends a lot of time to arrange the flowers and bushes. You can spend some time there sitting on the bench or in the woods. It’s definitely not just an ordinary nursery. If you’re in Frederick area, I suggest you stop by.”

“Love this place! Been to many nurseries in the area - this place and DR Snell are my favorites. I got flowers from both places every year.
I appreciate that this place is the only place left that offer 6 pack annuals.
To people who give them 1 star review and complain about how plants die and demand a refund.
Seriously, if you’re a gardener, you must know how hard it is to care and grow these babies everyday.
I hate when people return and demand a refund , go to Lowe’s or home depot . They’re corporate, they’ll live.

“Wonderful nursery with friendly, helpful staff and landscapers that care about the finished product. Heather and the team at the garden center were friendly and patient with me as I made sure to get the right tree for my needs. The landscapers took the time to do the job right, as if it was their own yard, and they communicated with me to make sure I was pleased. Although you can find lower prices on some stuff from the big box stores, the selection and quality are better here. Also, the plants are treated well by people who know plants — you won’t see anybody standing there blasting a root ball at full pressure with a garden hose.”

“Easily our new favorite local nursery, for a lot of reasons (oh, where to begin?!). First and foremost, they focus on native perennials; the kinds of plants you should regularly be seeing in the wild (some of which you still do, and others that you don't or really have to look for). We've been native-scaping our own property for the past 15 years (and have plenty more to do!), and while it's been getting much easier to find native options at nurseries the past few years, we've primarily done it through mail order. Now, we won't have to source as much that way AND Grasshopper offers larger, well-established plants for the same price as we typically get small plugs of plant starts in bulk through mail order.

Secondly, you will not beat their selection of natives within a 30 mile radius, and you have zero chance of beating their prices, period. Only one other local nursery even comes close on selection and they are still 5-10% more expensive. All of the rest are a minimum 15% or higher above Grasshopper, who is selling big, well-established, healthy, and happy plants just like the rest (they aren't skimping on quality at all). We've easily snagged over 3 dozen plants from them this year, alone (all of which were in excellent shape and are doing great on our property).

Yes, they do have non-natives plants available, but they aren't the majority and they aren't exotics that are prone to being aggressive and invasive, either. They also offer garden vegetables earlier in the season, and again, all healthy, happy, quality plants.

But WAIT, there's more. Join their VIP club. You get a plant each month, you get a t-shirt (that they screen print themselves), and you get 20% off all of the items they have available in their little shop (sun catchers, jewelry, soil, bird houses, butterfly enclosures, shirts, all types of arts and crafts - several of which are locally produced). And you get access to the nursery outside of normal business hours, plus access to the rest of their property, which they maintain some trails on through field and forest (which my husband and I absolutely love as avid birder/hiker/nature nerds and have been regularly visiting, too!

If you have any questions about anything they have available, just ask. Not sure what might work best in an area of your property? Again, just ask! If there are plants you are looking for and they don't have, just ask, because they will look into getting them! My only regret is not finding them years ago, so if you are wondering whether or not to go, just go. You won't regret the trip nor what you find when you get there!”

“Barry has been delivering high quality mulch to us and to my mom for several years. His prices and delivery fees are FAR superior to the local landscaping/garden centers. Super nice, personable and hard working guy. Highly recommend!”

“I rented a pump, for like 20 min, as I got a call on the drive home to return it to Home Depot. BG, the rental counter guy, that helped me check it out was on the phone when I came back, so I returned it to another associate. The next day, wo me asking, HD refunded me my $75! I appreciate that someone noticed my 20 min rental and did something about it! I should note, BG was smooth as silk: He was 100% efficient, and I had the pump and hose in my hands out the door super quick, oh, and he answered my questions about deposits, debit cards and hose included... I'll return now for the trench rental for sure.”
