I recently visited two fitness gyms closest to my home, on the same day, to take advantage of a free membership through United Healthcare. I chose Fitness 19 over the other one (brand new and much larger) mostly because of the way I was greeted by Lauren at the front desk. She was so friendly, asked me a few questions and talked to me about what Fitness 19 could offer me. When I asked her if I could just walk around by myself she said sure and that she would be there to answer any questions I might have. I did tell her I would be visiting another gym and she just let me know she would be happy to help me if I decided to return. She was obviously very knowledgeable and treated me with such kindness and respect! This was a huge contrast to the way I was ‘greeted ‘ at the other gym!

Stay away from this gym if you want to be harassed daily by the employees. There is nothing that’s fair about this gym when it comes to its members. I got treated horrible by the staff. There are so many individuals ( I won’t name ) that hog the machines for 3-4 hours, hog the weights, and leave break the equipment with heavy weights. But the staff only picks on the kids. You can’t even work out with the Karen’s getting annoyed. I tried asking for the owners contact info and the manager denied my request.

Long review... :)I felt it was important to take some time before writing this review. I wanted to be certain it was coming from a non-reactionary place. We all know it can be challenging to get the gym for multiple reasons. Be proud of yourself if you do it! Taking care of ourselves so often takes a back seat. With that in mind, Fitness 19 just isn't a place I would ever suggest to anyone.I've been a member for 2 years and have watched the place continue to decline. Kurt has lost interest in the gym and has chosen a management style that is less than desired.Lauren opens the gym at 5am and, sadly, that is most often the ONLY time you will see her at the front desk. Working out during her shift, being on her phone and spending time in the back office (sometimes with members) seems a priority. And if you do see her, don't expect a smile how are you, etc. ONLY if you one of her crew that she trains with. In that case, you can expect lots of selfies, etc. Mike?? Well, I can't say much about him because he has never given me a hello, how's your day, smile, nothing. Overall, the gym has gotten more and more dirty (just look at the fans) and the equipment continues to decline. So much of the equipment has tape that is peeling off and very sticky. Bebe and Wendell have ALWAYS greeted each member with a smile, how are you, etc. That is what drew me to joining the gym to begin with. Seeing Wendell's engagement with the members is what led me to hire him as my personal trainer. Wendell was fired unfortunately (via text....no conversation). Seeing how this was handled was the tipping point for me to terminate my membership at Fitness 19. Part of Wendell's firing had to do with faxing my mother's death certificate for me and that was AFTER he asked the manager Bebe if it was okay and she confirmed it was. I won't go deeper into details because this review is about my overall thoughts on the gym and not one isolated item.Speaking of Kurt, I 've left word 3 different times that I'd like to speak with him. I understand that when a member cancels their membership they receive a call. I've cancelled my membership. He has completely disregarded my attempts to connect with him. When I asked Mike why I haven't rec'd a call yet, he replied in a snarky tone "he's not going to call you"!! Can't process how you run a business in this manner. I thought he would speak with me to hear my concerns about the gym and preserve my membership...Nope. This seems to be common place unfortunately. Shame on you Kurt!

Fitness 19 is a gym. It’s not a fancy retreat with a sauna and pool and turf areas. It’s a place to work out. It’s a smaller gym, but I can tell you after going there for 9 years, give or take, I’ve only had to wait on equipment a handful of times. I guess it’s about timing. They have a great variety of equipment for most levels of fitness. The workers have been second to none. There have been some intermittent employees who seem like they’d rather be anywhere but there, but the others are golden. They’re attentive, kind, and inclusive. For the bad, there isn’t a ton, but there is some. In that 9 year span, I can say I haven’t seen a whole lot change. Sure there have been a few new treadmills and free weights, but the bulk of the equipment is aged. Paint has peeled and been replaced with the wrong color, seats have remained torn or broken, and the paint hasn’t been updated. I think the gym just needs to overhaul itself and get more up to date.I’ve since left Fitness 19 for another gym for expanded resources and more options. In the short time since leaving, I’ve seen a host of familiar faces make the switch to this new gym and I can only assume it was for the same reasons I had. I hope it stays there for it’s affordable memberships, but it definitely needs a facelift.

I walked into this gym because I am new to the area and I desperately need to start working out. The first thing I noticed was the smell. It smells horrendous like jockstraps and feet. I also noticed that even though they have fans running, there is a humidity and dampness in the air. Not to mention that I see these microfiber rags and disinfectant used to wipe down the machines. I only saw about 4 or 5 of them. Also, are they using these same rags to wipe down all of the equipment among the many gym patrons? The smell alone made it an instant NO. I will look somewhere else. This place is a VRE/MRSA/Staph infection waiting to happen

Great gym with great coaches! The programming focuses on building strength and conditioning with consistent and progressive overload, and they are so good about finding adjustments for every level of athlete

Been going to Fitness 19 for years now and I love how interpersonal the Gym is. I read in a magazine that the more *Intimate* the Gym is, the better your progress due to less distractions (no diss to the larger gyms). They recently made changes to the children's room, turning it into an extra room to work out in---- and I absolutely love it. They also have a punching bag which is my preference of a stress reliever ?The pricing is fair, which allows members to make referrals in order to knock off the monthly membership cost (can be as low as $6 a month depending on how many people you refer). The only issue I had was observing a male staff member (works in the evenings) appearing to be biased towards some of the younger African American members that come in. This bias is displayed through him closely monitoring of those members, his non-friendly/Zero tolerance approach to them, and him being extra ridgid with policy when he deals with them (especially enforcing the "mask over the nose" policy).I'm in my mid 30's easily mistaken for a younger male in his 20's, and one time I had a distasteful experience with this same staff member. After him seeing me for a while now, he is a little more relaxed with me---- however I think he knows that he slightly severed our rapport from the first interaction. I completely avoid this staff member or either change my work out to the mornings.
