I actually lived here in the mid to late 70's. My dad was a diver at what was known as NOLTF. We decided to go back and see about renting a cottage for a few days. 3 hour trip for nothing. This place is a rec center that is a train wreck. It's a dumping ground for campers, rv's and boats. It's ill kept, dirty and a huge disappointment. What was once a nice place to visit and live, is now a disgrace. I would never rent or stay here, even if it was free, for a vacation of looking out the window at a junk yard. If you pay to stay here, you're hard up. There is no enjoyment or relaxation at this place. The Department of the Navy really needs to investigate this place, close it down or fire who is working in this place and clean it up. It's truly an embarrassment. The military shouldn't be subject to this place. Despicable.

Joan and Carrie had me banned from base 6months after my initial stay lol, after I was there for months. I booked a reservation recently then it was cancelled without any reason or justified case. When I called I could not get an answer nor would they answer a call or reply to an email. Why is that, why are they not transparent. Instead they backdoor file a complaint with base.....Not how it works sorry. Now, today I email the bad CO to get a response I am banned as of Jan 6 2023 (odd just after my booking took place). Without any reasoning or justified reasoning. They don't answer phone calls, don't respond to emails, do nothing to maintain the safety of the park as it relates to flooding and electrical issues. Milking the tax payers money and treating Veterans like Garbage. NEGATIVE 100 Rating for me.

This is a quiet location. If you are looking to do more than sit at you rv site or cabin there are but a few choices. There is a small beach area that has some rentals...mainly kayaks. There is a small fitness center (you have to go to check to get the key). There is a putt putt course (I'm still not sure where you get the clubs) and some tennis courts ( I don't think they require a reservation). There is a pool with some slides (for a fee). There is a camp store with very limited hours. There is a fishing pier (you need a fishing license). We rented a bungalow that had a large deck. This was nice to sit out and relax or play family games. We didn't stay in the rec area much and explored the towns around here.

Not recommended and stay away from this place. It is poorly managed, managers at the office are rude. They discriminate against retired veterans and disabled veterans. Very poorly managed and the bath house arent sanitary / dirty, full of bugs , grass is always up to your ankle, the gate vs. the office have two different policies at all times. These people who run this place are being paid by our tax dollars but don’t serve their retired veterans. Cops at the gate also believe they have more authority than the POTUS. They allow sites with electrical & sewage to be submerged in water. See photos for your safety. save your money.

The turn into the parking lot at the registration center is very challenging from the gate entrance for an RV trailer of any size. Staff was very pleasant and professional. Not much offered by the registration checkin staff about amenities. This is primarily because most amenities are closed during the off season. Wifi access in the F area was virtually non-existent. Otherwise, the F area was very nice, with nicely spaced lots, well maintained grounds, and lots of trees, showing off fall colors. Nature trail is nice and well maintained. A nice campground to experience nature along the Patuxent River. The town of Solomons Island close by, offering nice boardwalk along the river, with restaurants having water views.

We stayed a few nights off season. September 16 -19. Came to check it out. Looks like mostly campers and RVs. The pool was closed as was the gym. Seamed everything was closed. That was ok for me. The fishing pier was big. It had seen better days. I crabbed with drop nets caught a few small ones that I threw back. Not much else to do. Town is nice but small with a few places to eat.All said the place has seen better days. I hope someone wakes up and takes an interest in fixing it up. Sure it was nice once.

Very nice campground. Our family comes here pretty often, we was at the fishing dock and I went to the restroom, lay down my phone and forgot it. I was very fortunate that a nice person turned my phone in to the police and I picked it up at the gate by the office. Thank you very much to the person that turned it in.

We recently used the primitive camp site. Camped Wednesday to Friday morning. Pleasantly we were the only ones in the primitive section. Lots of great stuff to do. My son I enjoyed using the fishing pier, swimming pool, playground and the mini-golf. Thursday night there was a thunderstorm. After the storm a camp staff member came to the site and checked on us. They even offered us dry supplies! A couple feedback items. The website and signs on fishing pier stated we needed Navy environmental fishing permits and provided a website to buy the permit. However the website link did not work. The primitive camping is located near a major highway. So you’ll hear traffic through the evening. We lucked out and were the only ones at the primitive camping sites. However I did notice the sites were very close together. So I wouldn’t expect lots of space if other campers were in the area. You may not want to rely on the camp store for firewood. They sell each piece of wood separately at 75 cents a piece. If you plan on fishing, recommend using one of the off site bait shops. The camp store was in short supply and didn’t have any live bait.

If you get the chance just avoid this place. RV sites are scattered around haphazardly with no apparent order; our sewer hookup was under the camper with no cover beyond half a concrete block to keep you from stepping in it. Check in staff was not particularly welcoming. Although there was a tornado warning one night the security staff seemed indifferent: Lot of permanent campers with decks although the rules say no permanent structures. I could go on but the Navy could do a lot better than this.

We're here every fall for 3 months or so, the grounds are beautiful even though they are not maintained. The showers and laundry rooms are old and dirty. Most of the time the washing machines/dryers don't work and the wifi sucks, very weak signal. The MWR speed thru the RV park like their at Indy. They don't enforce the leash laws or pick up after your pet rule and the gals in the office aren't friendly, BUT, it's close to our grandchildren, the price is right and we love the base security.

Wow. I’m embarrassed. We arrived from China Lake, CA yesterday (the land of earthquakes) in anticipation that this “Naval” facility would be similar. NOT! My assigned. RV site (F9) is surrounded by mud (front, rear, and POV parking spot). It stinks and there is an ankle breaker covered by thick grass at my front door (yes, I’ve stepped in it a few times). The RV is parked on wet/damp soil soil (minimal gravel) and my best efforts still can’t prevent the grey/black dump line from climbing a slope right at the septic drain. Building 370 is (nearest shower house) is old and run down. The fire extinguisher has no legible date of last inspection and curtains are held up by wire and u-nails. The first shower I peeked into had no shower head. The area I’m in (F) has a shower house/laundry under repair and are closed. Yes, I apologized to my spouse. And I did speak to management regarding. This isn’t the Navy I left.USN Retired

Decent campgrounds, but the base really needs to post warnings about the jelly fish in the swimming area. All three of my children were stung, as were multiple younger kids during our three day stay. Life guards did not warn people and no signs posted. While the stinging pain subsides in 30min or so, they really need to let parents know of the constant presence of these things prior to kids/adults being stung.
