I contacted Mortgage Experts after being pre-approved for a home loan with Rocket Mortgage and after getting under contract on our dream home we were told that they could not move forward due to something that didn't make sense. I decided to try several other lenders because I knew that we should still be able to be approved and the thing that was stopping Rocket Mortgage would not stop another lender. Marcus was very understanding of the urgency to get approved and on to closing as soon as possible as our closing date was less than a month away at that time. I got everything to him right away and he was able to get us pre-approved with another lender. Throughout the process, however, the communication definitely left alot to be desired. In some ways the communication was great (website to check status, weekly email updates to all involved parties, direct phone number to Marcus), but in other ways it was not great as these things only work as well as they are setup or he's available so I would have difficulty getting in touch as the contracted closing date was approaching. The sellers gave us an extension and as that date approached I had difficulty reaching Marcus or was told that we'd get approval or an update over and over and over and over and we still never received it. It felt like we were being given the run-around or generic answers even though things were obviously delayed and not the way he was updating us that it would be. The lender that he chose for us just so happen to be taking longer than they had before, apparently, and his answers were not expressing this, maybe because he didn't realize it until we were delayed more than he expected. All in all, eventually we received the approval and closed on our dream house. The anxiety was already at an all time high because of the unique situation we were in and fear that the sellers were about to move on if we were delayed any more. The lack of communication and and lack of being honest about what was really going on would normally make me never use a company again, but I could tell that Marcus and his partners meant well, and his personality was bright and optimistic despite, which is why I'm rating them 3 stars instead of 2. With a different communication approach they would have easily been a 4 or 5 star rating. But with this being the biggest purchase we've ever done and stress level on ridiculous I really did need that better communication. I may try them again to refinance since they were aware of these issues and may have made improvements since then. If so I'll review again. -Lovergirl654

Mortgage Experts???Now that it’s officially been a month since I’ve closed on my home I have a moment to breath and can finally share my experience with this company. Where do I begin, started as a referral and I had the highest hopes but not only did Marcus Eligan fall short of my expectations I can tell you for sure I will probably never buy a house again thanks to his company. As a first time homebuyer I was new to the process and looked forward to all that came along with it. I heard many a times that it can be a stressful process but I was not prepared for this at all. I was given an approval letter that contained a rate. Moved forward with my home buying process. I was told that if I needed anything I should contact him but when it came time to contact Marcus he was unavailable and constantly reminded me that his mortgage calculator is available on his website. That’s one way to make someone feel like a number. Then my rate changed again and my realtor and I celebrated my new low rate. I continued my home search hoping things would get better but nope. Marcus informed me that on weekends when most people are out shopping for homes that he will not be available to price quotes or anything of the such. My calls and emails went unanswered, but thank goodness for my realtor who was able to help me along the way. Then my rate and downpayment changed yet again because Marcus and I quote “was unable to get me into a program”. Now having worked in customer service for a very long time I have learned to never provide information unless you can guarantee it. So now my rate has gone up and so has my down payment, Do you think Marcus called me to tell me this information, NOPE! On one of my many calls to him he just threw it out there as if it was some small thing. Do you think I was given an apology? NOPE! A higher rate means higher monthly payment, higher downpayment means more money from my pocket. But hey no sweat on his back because he will still be paid at the end of the day. I was even told to “find a new lender if I was not happy” instead of apologizing. Now three days before my closing I was told I’d have a certain downpayment, two days before closing I was given the same number. The day before the wire is sent I receive an email with a number that’s $5,000 more than what’s discussed. I’m upset so my realtor being the Godsend she is contacted Marcus and he told her the number was wrong and it would be no more than a certain number again. YET ANOTHER LIE! I should have went with another lender but I didn’t feel like starting again and possibly loosing the house I loved so much or getting the same results with anyone else. I don’t think I’ve ever cried so much in my life. During a time when I should have been celebrating this is what I dealt with. If you want to feel like a number then this is the company for you! If you want to be given the run around and lied to pls by all means give it a go! But if you prefer to be spoken to and treated like a human being then this is not the company for you.Also, I don’t want to seem like it’s all bad, after all the hell I was put through Marcus managed to get me a $1000 credit which only made me have to bring $4000 more to the table then expected and a higher rate that came along with it! This caused me to have to move in later then expected because those funds were allocated to my moving fund. As a single mother I do this on my own, so unexpected funds don’t come easy. But hey, so sweat off your back right.Do your research because everyone is not treated equally with this company. Unfortunately as a single black woman my experience with terrible. I was spoken to as if I was less than by two people at this company and I hope nobody else has to go through this.

Let me start off by saying the staff is disorganized either that or understaffed. The communication and response time to emails and calls is horrible. If you call/email don't expect to get a call back right away. It seems that their schedules are not synced. Although they are apologetic this is unacceptable customer service especially when the industry that they are in everything just about is time sensitive and communication is KEY. I will not recommend this business to friends or colleagues or mines. I hope they do better for the clients sake!

Marcus at Mortgage Experts assisted my fiancé and I in securing our first home. Throughout the entire process, Marcus was always available to answer questions and crunch the numbers for us! He did everything in his power to make sure we walked away with the best rates! We appreciated working with him, he is truly a Mortgage Expert!

This process was stressful but not due to Marcus and his team. Mortgage Experts kept me informed and were always ready and willing to answer any questions I had, and believe me I asked plenty of questions. I look forward to using them in the future and referring my friends and family to them!!

I was referred to Marcus by my former supervisor, he was her financial adviser. He is legit amazing. It started with a simple email of me letting him know I was interested in buying a home and he guided me from there. My credit was not where it needed to be so he assisted me on how to get it better. It was not using "credit repair" antics, simply pay your bills and pay them on time. He showed me which ones to focus on until I got my utilization at the optimal point. It took me almost a year to get there because my credit was not the best, but we finally got it there. Marcus communicated w me every single month letting me know where my credit score was and what I needed to do next to improve it. Once I got my score to where we needed it, he immediately placed me in a First Time Home Buyers Program and I started looking for homes. Found one and had to bring only a little over 1K to the closing table. THAT IS IT. I actually have a friend working w Marcus now. Her credit was amazing so she didnt need help there, Marcus got her pre-approved in less than 2 weeks so she is ready to start searching now. Marcus is amazing and I would refer anyone to him.

Let me start off by saying I highly recommend this company. We started with someone else and things weren't going as planned. We had to make a change and fast. We were introduced to Mr. Marcus Eligan and we only had approx. 2 wks tops to close. He picked the ball up and it started to roll! He got the job done in 2 wks!!! His professionalism and sincerity and going the extra mile is very rare these days so we truly appreciated that. We are so elated that it all worked out. We are now proud HOME Owners!!!! I must say that working with Marcus was the BEST loan experience I've ever had. He was caring, kind and thought about my needs every step of the way! He's very knowledgeable in his craft. So don't worry about him not knowing enough. If he doesn't know he WILL find the answer. Wonderful person to work with and I know I've also made a new friend in life. I will follow him wherever he go from here on out. He will be my loan go to!!!!
