My neighbor got evicted and had a cat. I stopped the animal control woman and asked if they could just give me the cat instead of taking it to the shelter. They refused and said I had to apply for the cat, so I ended up filling out an application that day. 5 days later I get a call saying that the cat is hissing and its temperment hasn’t improved so they wont allow me to adopt the cat. I asked if i could try again in a few weeks but they said no. I then asked what would happened to the cat, and they said it would be put down. But of course the cat is angry, you took it from its home and to a shelter! When I had a home ready and available immediately. And now you’re going to kill it instead of giving it more time to open up. I adopted a cat here 3 years ago and even then they gave me issues… such a pathetic shelter and they need to do better. Are you guys actually helping these animals??? Do better.

I had a great experience. Everything was quick and easy. The people were nice and helpful. I was able to rescue a beautiful golden retriever. I could tell she was taken care of while she was there. Prices for adoption are very reasonable.

I was pleasantly surprised by the Prince George's County Animal Shelter. It was definitely NOT a stereotypical animal shelter. The front area was clean, well-lit and didn't reek of animal urine. Of course, you can't escape the smell entirely because scared animals have accidents; but, the staff obviously works hard to keep their facility inviting. The front desk staff was amazing. They multi-tasked superbly, remembering why each customer was there and following up with other staff to get everything taken care of. They are also proactive to let you know what the status of your case/issue without you needing to ask. The adoption coordinator was just as busy, helping new pet parents pack their handsome new pet's belongings and head home. She was also coordinating with reputable local non-profit animal rescues to move homeless animals to locations where they might get adopted or fostered faster. Everybody knew their jobs and performed them greatly & with a smile despite it being a super busy Friday afternoon. This is obviously a team effort where every member has value and knows it.

The facility reeks of urine. One of the front desk ladies totally ignored us and started chatting it up and joking with another person while we're just sitting there waiting to be seen. But thank God for Kesley! She came to the front and acknowledged us. She is so sweet. She literally answered all of our questions and was so kind and pleasant. She was straight up and honest.

We got our cutie pie about 3 months ago. the smell of the facility took me back , but maybe that's expected in a facility holding such a large quantity of animals. I suggest you look online at the animals and call before heading to the facility. Also, if you desire to adopt a kitten there is a certain age they have to be before they can be adopted. The process wasn't long for us and Jennifer Cooper was very helpful. The only disappointing part was that we were told she was microchipped, but when we took her to the vet, the vet could not find one.

As everyone else has been saying the older black lady at the front desk is AWFUL.All other staff is delightful.Facility is filthy. I feel so bad for the animals. The adoption process is convoluted. This place needs serious funding.

They really need volunteers. Please sign up to volunteer if you have a love for animals especially dogs.

Considering visiting or adopting from PGC ASD in Upper Marlboro? Here's what you should know! From the stench and odor that will immediately hit you when you walk through the door, to the disorganization immediately seen - from the front desk to the back of the facility, to the hazardous working conditions of many of the employees, to the mistreatment and deplorable quality of the kennel maintainence, to walking through the insect infested unclean and unsanitary conditions of the overall facility... do not arrive anticipating a pleasant experience. Don't take my word for it. See it for yourself. Talk to many of the volunteers and employees. Open a fridge and it's an immediate sanitation violation, in either fridge. Step into the public bathrooms, and another sanitation violation. Visit the break room, where employees are expecting to eat their food, and... YEP!... another sanitation violation! And, if you're expecting "professionalism", you WILL NOT find it here. Expect to walk in the door and NOT be greeted. Expect to ask questions and NOT be provided clear answers - even after speaking to multiple people, to include Adoption Supervisor(s) and the Deputy Director. Expect the adoption process to be chaotic without any form of organized flow. Expect to hear staff cursing at one another, and yelling. Expect for that "one person" who (might) help you to be so overwhelmed they forget to get back to you. Expect that if you do need to speak with a Supervisor or Manager for that person to be utterly rude and short, without cause. In short, take a seat, cover your nose, watch your clothes, and brace yourself! It's definitely going to be an "experience"! Oh! And, DO NOT be alarmed if the animal you've been tracking either isn't actually available or is available and no one is able to give you detailed information on him/her. This facility, under the current direction of Dr. Vanessa Lee is an utter Health Department and OSHA hazard zone, and there has been no current signs of improvement! This facility will lead you to believe they are receiving animals from unfortunate and/or unhumane situations and circumstances, and giving them the proper treatment and care, but it's NOT! Animals come here from one terrible and traumatic experience only to be subjected to another. It is the poor leadership, from the office of the Deputy Director down the hall, which contributes to this. Everyone can point out the problems, but ask them who's actually addressing, taking care of, and resolving them and you will lost in the discussion (Again, I forewarn... expect "rude" and "unprofessional"!)It is sad this a County Government Facility, regulated by the County and the State, and one has to witness the conditions of the facility, and deal with the chaos and unprofessionalism to which is in store when you arrive. The animals there need love and loving homes! Go! Adopt! But take your phone! Take pictures of the facility as you walk through! Take videos when you feel it appropriate! Be excited about getting your new family member! Be support to the animals there and share the true details of your experiences! People read reviews!

For an animal shelter, it was nice. The pet areas were not bad. Be prepared for the smell of a lot of animals. I volunteered there a few weeks back. Great event. A little disorganized, but they got through it.

We got our Bulldog girl Aura (previously named Yoshi) from here and she has been such a joy to have. She has a fear of men which we are patiently helping her through. Day 5 of adoption and she went from running and hiding from my husband to eating from his hand, getting close enough to sniff him, and occasionally letting him pet her. He even rubbed his feet on her while she was napping close to him. Shelter dogs need understanding and time. It can be stressful to go thru the adjustment with them, but so rewarding when you finally see their worries subside. Thank you to the staff here that put in the good work to help the displaced animals. If many of them were given a chance, they make excellent companions and family members!

I adopted a dog from here in March, we love the dog. I’m rating this place 1 start because they were neglectful in the fact that they released the dog to me while being treated for kennel cough knowing that I had other dogs at home who ended up getting infected and they stated that they will not compensate me for the vet bill. Real nice. Make sure you ask all the questions because these people clearly don’t care and they will not reimburse you for their mistakes. If you have other animals at home and you adopt a dog being treated for something, make sure it isn’t contagious because they don’t care.
