Amherst Cinema is a valued local theater known for its focus on independent, arts, and documentary films, offering a unique alternative to larger multiplexes. The cinema provides a welcoming environment with thoughtful policies, such as mask-required showings on weekends, which allow immunocompromised individuals and their families to enjoy movies safely. This considerate approach ensures that everyone can experience the big screen, whether during special matinees or regular screenings throughout the week. Members benefit from great perks, including unlimited popcorn, and supporting the cinema helps sustain this non-profit organization dedicated to showcasing diverse and quality films. The cinema also hosts special events like National Theatre Live performances from the UK, which offer a theatrical experience that is more impressive than streaming and more affordable than traveling to major cities. Ticket prices are reasonable, especially for members and seniors, making these performances accessible. While audiences can sometimes be less appreciative, the overall experience is highly valued for its film selection and community-oriented atmosphere. Amherst Cinema remains the best place in Western Massachusetts to enjoy independent, arts, and documentary films, providing a safe, friendly, and engaging environment for film lovers.

You would think an indie cinema would have crowds that better appreciated film but alas this place has some of the worst audiences of all time. Still worth going for the film selection, just pray you aren't seated next to a geriatric couple who've forgotten this isn't their home cinema
