I've used H&R block for a long time but this year it has become increasingly deceptive regarding FORCED payment options. Once accidentally selected it is a huge time consuming hassle to "downgrade" your account back to the FREE version. There is no simple option to delete the premium payment from your "shopping cart" without calling the company and waiting for a very long time. After being on hold for 20 minutes I was kicked off the call. Once downgraded you must completely start over. Very obvious and deceitful tactics. Zero stars if I could.

I usually don't leave such awful reviews but I feel very compelled. Absolutely horrible experience. We normally file ourselves but decided to hand off the work to someone with experience since I started my own business.What we got was George who told us we were a "difficult problem" right off the bat... We reached out for his expertise on filing, and it sounds like he didn't know what he was talking about when he was trying to file our taxes by calling us a "difficult problem." First red flag!We sat with him at his dirty and disorganized desk where he tried to pull up our account where I uploaded all of our files so he could easily access them. He wasn't able to do that so (thankfully) I had my laptop and I emailed them to him. Not a huge deal, but another red flag that he couldn't work the software.Then he asked us a bunch of questions which we gave him all the info, and some questions we didn't have answers to (which I quickly emailed him the answers within 24 hours).No response. I call 6 separate times to either leave a voicemail or to be told George isn't in. I send multiple emails weekly. NEVER once did I receive a response back. Third reg flag.All just to find out the facility CLOSES IN MAY! I mean completely shuts down, is no longer open. We weren't given ANY WARNING and will now be paying penalties on filing taxes late. ABSOLUTELY UNACCEPTABLE! We should have been receiving multiple warnings about this so we could have gone elsewhere to file!!!!They gave our info to the Framingham office where we went through TWO DIFFERENT TAX PROFESSIONALS who did the same exact thing - no response, no calls.I absolutely warn you DO NOT GO HERE - they are disorganized, have horrible (to NO) communication, and George specifically seemed rude and did not care AT ALL about his job. Very unprofessional.

We had a truly awful experience doing taxes here. We normally file with TurboTax, but we wanted to consult with a person this year since we had paid a lot of medical expenses for my father and didn't know what we were entitled to.The first flag was that our rep was not equipped with any knowledge on hand that would allow him to inform us about what we were entitled to. The second flag was that they tried to convince us that our FSA was an HSA. The third flag was that my wife ended up googling all of the questions about my father's situation before the rep ever got back to us. The fourth flag was that weeks went by without them contacting us about finishing our taxes. Evidently they needed some information, but never reached out. the fifth flag was that we had already emailed the information they needed. The sixth flag was that they still had not finished our taxes days prior to tax Day (we started this process March 1sti-sh) because they said there was a complication with our EV credit. At this point we finally went in to their office, only to be told by our rep that we didn't qualify because our vehicle was used and the credit was only for new vehicles. Which leads to my favorite final two red flags, where we demand our documents back because our vehicle is very much new since the documents we gave our rep showed that it had *squints eyes* 12 miles at the point of purchase. And finally flag eight was that when we were given our documents back, we checked our portfolio to make sure we had everything we needed to file. Not only did we have everything, but we had another person's medical insurance papers.That night, we filed via TurboTax. A rep showed us how we could use the tooling to make sure we were getting the most out of my dad's situation, and we were done in 2 hours. We also got the ev credit.

Do not go here. Do not waste your time or money. $175 to watch an accountant fill out the same fields I would have done online for free. Then due to their 1990s system which somehow can send you marketing email all year but can't send you a verification link no matter how many times you request it... I *NEVER* received a digital copy of my tax returns. Had to wait a year to go back in person and request returns and--kid thee not--they PRINTED them all out again and said they couldn't send me a PDF. Furthermore, and this is what motivated me to leave a review, after one accountant explained the situation and pretty much summed up that there was nothing she could do to help me after she saw that attempts to access the stupid MyBlock system failed as I was about to leave, another accountant came out and argued with me mansplaining everything she said and trying to speak over me. I didn't have a problem with any of the accountants on my initial visit in 2022--just the inconvenience of paying for someone to do the same thing I've done for years for free because I didn't want to deal with the hassle of filing, and being even more inconvenienced than if I had just done the taxes myself. I now have to physically scan all the bloody paperwork into my computer (I can file my taxes faster than this online for FREE) and on top of it having some rando guy argue with me trying to defend his company's crappy system process (if you need to reach out to tech support to get your tax return... that alone should indicate there is a PROBLEM with the system) and then when I asked them to just take the feedback at face value and report it up to their company... after all that guy's fuss, they all literally looked me in the eye and said: "We can't do that." Will NEVER use H&R Block again. This place is the McDonald's of accounting and busybodies like this old guy who think that killing trees to print mounds of paper is what today's customer wants... Aarrrgh! I seriously hope this place goes under and the online tax wizards put these outdated accountants out of business. This place was rage fuel.Edit: Ending up filing fed and state for free with CashApp (formerly CreditKarma's tax file). Did an itemized deduction and the DIY filing went faster than the simple deduction done last year H&R Block--and like the old Credit Karma tax filer, your filing is audit-guaranteed, so you are protected. Needless to say, I got my 2022 PDF. I didn't use CreditKarma this year (or last) because Intuit bought them... and I'm not interested in ever using TurboTax or paying bogus add-on fees.@Sara - if you want to make it right... stop sending me marketing emails. I've unsubscribed multiple times. Do right by your customers before they leave reviews.... you won't ever get my business again.

They do charge you way to much money for their services plus they are very highly incompetent. Stay away from them. I am now having liberty taxes filing my taxes, and they do a much better job than this place. Yes, it's a joke stay away from H&R Block.

Ours experience was okaish.It was our first time filing through a company, until now we filed our taxes on our own(using software tool)Our taxes were filed by Mary/Betsy Hargreaves. She was accommodating and walked us through the process and answered all our queries. The filing was quick and got our refunds within a few days.The only con was the appointment was rushed and there were a few errors in calculation where we had to pay extra tax (however she did explain to us the reasons as well)Overall it went okay.

You guys gave me the run around. Gave me a different location than I wanted, gave me the WRONG time, made me do a drop-off when I didn't want a drop off and then didn't even do my taxes the day I asked them to get done!!!
