We serendipitously happened upon the Freedom Trail Foundation tour while traveling through Boston on the way to Maine. Because we found and bought the tickets day of, my partner and I had relatively tempered expectations-- we really just wanted an affordable walking tour that'd give us a taste of Boston. Thanks to our lovely guide, Jeremiah Poope, our expectations were well exceeded! His knowledge of Boston's colonial and revolutionary routes had breadth and depth. Jeremiah's sense of humor was greatly entertaining-- his jabs at Paul Revere convinced me that the iconic figure's importance was indeed inflated in American history narratives!! Kind-hearted and spirited, Jeremiah did a wonderful job ensuring all guests were able to follow along and hear him well. We truly enjoyed learning more about Boston and its extensive history. If you are searching for a Freedom Trail walking tour, you are sure to enjoy a FTF tour if Jeremiah Poope is any indication of the merit of its guides. Huzzah!

One of our favorite tours we did while in Boston! We learned so much on this tour - it was very interactive and our kids really enjoyed it too. I am an avid history nerd and felt the tour was the perfect length of time for the sites we saw. Would highly recommend, our tour guide was very in character and enjoyed our time with him. He spoke clearly and loud enough so the whole group wouldn't miss out on what was being discussed. We would definitely do this tour again in the future!

Jeremiah Poope was an amazing tour guild! I did not want to go on this tour because I thought it would be boring but he made this tour so fun! I learned a lot, laughed at his humor, and walked away so happy that I decided to go! He put a high standard in what I expect from your guides the next time I decide to take walking tours in other states!

My family and I loved this tour! What made the tour so great was our guide--Jeremiah Poope! He was funny and he was able to bring history to life. My kids truly enjoyed the experience. They are still saying that Jeremiah Poope was the best part of visiting Boston.

Samuel Prescott led our family on a delightful private tour of the Freedom Trail! So educational, bringing history to life. If we had just walked, or even gone on a public tour with 70 of our favorite strangers, we never would've learned half of what Sam was able to share. The host was very charismatic, a wealth of knowledge & did a great job keeping us moving despite some large crowds. Would definitely recommend!

The Freedom Trail is a MUST for anyone visiting Boston! This is the easiest way to see all of the historical sites around the city. There are 14 stops along this 2.5 miles trail. The trail is also marked by a red stone path on the sidewalk and markers at every stop so there is no way to get lost or miss anything. They also have two visitor centers and information stands along the way. One is at the beginning in Boston Commons and the other is in the first floor of Faneuil Hall. There you can get maps that show the trail and explain each stop on more detail. They also have rangers there to ask any questions to. These are also where the easiest bathroom stops are. This trail will probably take all day or two days to complete if you want to stop in and really see some of the historic building. We broke it up and did the first half one day and then stopped for dinner. There are plenty of restaurants along the way along with cafes and bakeries. There are also some really awesome things to see that aren't listed on the trail, but will take you right by. For anyone who is a fan of history, or even if you aren't, the Freedom Trail is an amazing way to spend your time in Boston!

We planned a quick escape for a couple of nights in Boston, and everyone we know recommended the Freedom Trail tour. We weren't sure of how often tours left, so we just showed up- just in time for the 11:30am group. Our guide was a gentleman by the name of Jeremiah Poope. I had no idea what to expect. I will tell you that if you're coming to Boston, you MUST do this tour. And if you're doing it- I STRONGLY suggest getting Jeremiah. He says he's been at it for 20 years, but his stories, jokes and commentary seemed completely fresh and entirely engaging. We laughed a lot, learned a lot, and were completely drawn into his tales - particularly his telling of the Boston Massacre. There was so much depth of knowledge and sharing of information punctuated by a perfect stroll through Boston, that I came away with a tremendous appreciation for the history of the city, America- and our host. Don't. Miss. This.

Used self guided tour via phone. Be prepared to walk many miles and hours. Bring water, sunscreen, portable charger and shoes for long walks many over cobblestones. With that...this was the best tour!!! The information provided in small snippets was perfect. We were able to stop and pop into the museums and churches for deeper looks while on pause with tour. The side note (holocaust memorial and Rise Kennedy greenway) were perfect additions as well as ensuring that we stayed on right path. The inlaid path thru city was perfect to follow and areas under construction or restoration had painted red lines to make sure one stayed true to the trail. The NPS guide @ quincy market made sure we knew how to get to the start and provided us with a street map just in case.Lots of great historical tidbits like Mother Goose and the Donkey and elephant @ the Latin school. (Not telling!! Take the tour to find out more!!)

Using this picture from a previous reviewer to let you know YOU SHOULD IMMEDIATELY TAKE A TOUR FROM THIS GUIDE. "Phillis Wheatley" is knowledgeable about history from the standpoint of someone who actually studied American History in grad school, and isn't regurgitating the dumbed-down, largely misleading, "history" taught in grade school. She is intelligent, witty, and doesn't shy away from commentary that challenges the status quo. TL;DR: Phillis Wheatley is the most engaging and knowledgeable tour guide I have ever had the pleasure of learning from. She is hysterical, and makes American History accessible for people who don't fit the "white conservative male" mold--you know, the people our history books were written for.

If you get a chance to do this tour with Phillis Wheatley you are in for a treat! She is an amazing guide who is a history major so she actually knows what shes talking about and isn't just memorizing a script. She was witty and fun and I would 10/10 recommend her tour!

We really enjoyed the tour and 90 minutes was perfect to get us started. We completed the rest of the trail on our own later. Our guide, Jeremiah Poope, was absolutely perfect. His humor and quick wit was much appreciated by the adults and our kids. We learned so much and got a great number of fun facts. If we come back I'd love to have another tour with Jeremiah!

Jeremiah Poope was truly a delight! We had so many people in our initial tour that they divided us into two groups and boy howdy, was I glad we got him! my husband, my friend visiting from out of state and I thoroughly enjoyed the hour and a half we spent in his company. Always informative, frequently hilarious, he was the consummate host and fabulous storyteller. We all thought we knew our history (we got a few "Huzzahs"!) but we learned a few things from Jeremiah today!

This was the worst tour I've ever been on--if you can call it that. The guide was unwelcoming and probably bored. She resents the history she is allegedly showing us. She starts by mocking the puritans and then talking about cow p*** and human waste repeatedly. She has a political agenda and never stops punishing the customers with it. She used crude language (butt, a*** fart, Jesus!, shut up) and thought she was funny, I guess. We missed most of the important graves at the granary burial ground because she was obsessed with who wasn't buried there. She grabbed people's hands and shoulders. She yelled at us. She thought her singing was entertaining but it was weird and out of context. Perhaps she fancies herself as a sort of performance artist. Nope. Didn't stay in character. Maybe a social justice warrior? Not so much. Too insulting to all people groups except her own. And though she yelled at us about "compassion", she couldn't even muster basic hospitality to paying customers. Also--when you threaten hanging or branding to tourists who don't tip, even as a joke-- it's unlikely to resulT in a generous response.
