Please do not rent from Avis in Boston. My experience was really a horrible one. They charged me more than $700 for a security deposit which they said will be refunded. They put a lot of charges and added packages which were refused at the time. I had prepaid everything but I was charged for things that were not in the contract. I waited for a month for the deposit back but didn't see anything. Called them for an hour, sorted out everything but the money never came. Again after 2 weeks called them again. They said they made a mistake. Only a portion of the money was returned. Later I see that they charged some more on my credit card. I am absolutely disgusted by their service. Hopefully no one rents a car from them ever again.

Extremely disrespectful employees. It’s a tough job but no need to be mean and resentful towards every one of your customers. Avoid the lady named Maria. She was the definition of rudeness.

Check your agreement very carefully before getting the car. Ask to see a breakdown of charges. The counter agents get a commission for adding additional coverage and services when you pick it up, regardless of what you selected when you made the reservation.

Extended Roadside Assistance and Unlimited Tolls were added to my rental agreement without my knowledge. Being tired after the flight and not paying close attention, I missed these additions (the fact that the total charge includes the security deposit which obfuscates the rental amount didn't help).
I only noticed the charges on the final receipt when I got home. I reached out to Avis Support but they refused to remove the charges.
I'll never use Avis again and recommend other avoid renting from this location (and Avis in general).
P.S. Also, the car was in terrible condition - all dinged up and showing 'maintenance required' on the dashboard.
P.P.S. Just scanned through some of the reviews here. Holly crap... I should have checked earlier and never rented from them.

Avis has gone down lately. The last three time I have rented I have received damages cars, mechanically faulty cars, and cars with 1/2 a tank of gas but charged for a full tank. Avis customer service is spotty and usually requires several calls to resolve problems.

I was worried about the rental experience given all the recent uk publicity of tricks and deceptive policies to get more money out of you or trick you into paying for damage but for me it was okay. They didn’t check over the car before or after though did pay for loss damage protection of that made any difference. Car wasn’t particularly clean but okay for us. I ordered a Rav 4 equivalent but got something bigger but there was a good selection and was offered a choice. Staff were fine and were not pushy and both collection and drop off was quick with limited queues for both late evening pickup and evening drop off.

Loretta N is the greatest of all time. We had a problem with our booking at the preferred desk. She stepped in, took charge and resolved the problem. I saw she had a forty year service pin. Avis is so very lucky to have her for forty years. Keep up the good work!! I’ll surely rent from Avis at Boston Logan again.

Absolutely terrible service! Was charged almost $600 in fees after I had already prepaid everything online and was informed that it was just for “security deposits” and I would be refunded the money after we returned the vehicle.
We not only washed and vacuumed but also filled the tank back up before we returned it.. and when I called to ask when the charge would be refunded they said it won’t be…
I’m now out $600 on something I literally already prepaid for online and Avis customer service said all they can do is “apologize” ….
NEVER USE THIS PLACE TO RENT A CAR OR AVIS AS A WHOLE **WARNING**

The new app update is maybe the worst app update I have ever seen. Is is far slower and allows for only 3 vehicle choices. If my company didn't force me to use Avis I would never dream of using them. Avis already sucks, this does not help.
And the car they tried to give me absolutely reeked of smoke.

Our experiences with Avis were / are absolute horrible and we absolutely cannot recommend booking a car with them!
We booked a car for a road trip, starting in Boston. Unfortunately our rental car was stolen a couple of days later in Montreal.
It was not our fault - as confirmed by the police - but we neither got any help nor refund let alone a replacement car from Avis.
We spent hours on the phone with Avis staff, trying to get help by their (horribly poor!!!) customer service. We are deeply frustrated by the lack of support. We contacted the helpline several times, we did not get any answers or help. We were basically left alone in this horrible situation.
Every member of staff promised us something and forwarded us to the next person (roadside assistance, central billing, law enforcement, international rental….). No promise was kept and no one seemed to know who is responsible in such a situation. As tourists in a foreign country experiencing this nightmare, receiving no help at all was / is absolutely disturbing.
We chose Avis because we expected a highly professional company with a lot of experience and customer service and we paid a lot of money for the service of renting a car.
Their company’s slogan is “we try harder” but our experience so far is that their staff did not try at all. Which is deeply disappointing and unsatisfying.
We know that a car theft is not a regular thing but for sure it was not the first car theft for Avis. So we expected that there would be a procedure or a plan known by their staff what to do in this kind of emergency. We were left alone with no help, no support, no answers.
It is an absolute nightmare!!!
Do not book Avis!

3 staff doing nothing in Preferred booth. 3 staff and 16 people waiting in regular line. Move staff to the regular line. Slow 15+ min wait per customer. Wasted an hour.

Worst rental car experience of my life! Avoid at all costs!
Hour plus wait in line. Terrible customer service. Cars not well taken care of. Mine had a terrible smell. Will never rent from this place again!!!
