TL/DR - I found E.B. Horn's practices dishonest and unpleasant. I would not recommend doing business here if you are a woman. I visited in October 2023. I followed the instructions for booking an appointment at E.B Horn from their website, and emailed the address displayed. When I arrived, no one was aware I had an appointment and the people I booked with were not available. A salesman (alias) 'John' eventually came over. John was not sure why I was there, so I had to discuss once more what I was coming in for. I gave the rings to John who began to inspect them and write down the information on them. After inspecting them John asked how much I was looking to receive for them, and I told him my number. He wrote down a number that was a little less than half and pushed the paper towards me saying, 'This would be the number we're looking at today'. John then said if I was looking to make a purchase from the shop that 'I could give you more'. John began to show me some wedding bands. I shared with him the style I was interested in - no stones, silver with perhaps some light embellishment (like filigree, twists, etc.). John then felt it best to question my choices asking 'what, no diamonds?'. My engagement ring has a plain sapphire in it, and I wear other simple, silver rings on other fingers. I'm not sure if John was not paying attention or personally finds bands without stones displeasing - but I was admittedly surprised that a salesman would fail a temperature check so poorly. John pulled out a tray and placed it in front of me, not making much effort to help me look (which is fine, especially after knowing his thoughts about my preferences haha). I tried a few on. A simple silver band was about $400-$500, and I wasn't too jazzed with the selection. Without much help looking, I told John I was all set and was just interested in selling. Once more I asked John if I could get $100 more than he originally indicated, making a last-ditch effort at haggling. John thought about it and said hold on, walking away. I waited about five minutes before he returned and said 'I'm gonna be a bad guy and tell you that I'm only going to give you __ for them'. The number he said was more than half of the number he had written down for me before. I asked, 'what about the number we talked about just a short while ago?' to which he denied. I held up the piece of paper he had written the number on before, to which he shrugged and said, 'I never said that'. He then stated that I was unreasonable, that the rings were worthless, that I would never get anything more etc. At this point I was uncomfortable and indicated such; that he had told me one thing and kept me there for another half an hour before telling me something completely different. I said goodbye and departed. I took the ring to a jeweler in the Springfield area and received the price John had originally said. It all worked out perfectly and I was very happy to have not done business in a place I felt disrespected, talked down to, and cheated. What has stuck with me most about my time at E.B. Horn is not in fact the poor sales consultation. While I was standing and waiting for John, I could hear another salesman on the phone say to their caller 'well just buy her a bracelet, every woman loves bracelets'. I thought perhaps I had been propelled back to the 19th century. In a day and age when more women are working than ever, and when women are three times more likely than men to develop carpal tunnel, I am surprised to hear such a misrepresentative statement. While I am sure he was marketing well to his customer, it certainly made the store an uncomfortable and judgmental place. This, paired with the way John treated me, made me wonder how this would have gone if I presented as a man. Noticing that there were about 6 employees present, only 1 woman, I feel confident it would have been improved. I have no interest in returning to a place that treats its customers so differently bas

We do all of our jewelry purchases here, as well as jewelry repairs. It is a stand alone shop -- not part of a chain -- so it's all personalized service by people who know their stuff. At this point, I'd rather work with them and get what my wife wants rather than try to find a pre-made piece. Prices are reasonable - you do not pay the premium you would at, say, Tiffany's.

The staff is very helpful. The selection is excellent. Prices are very fair, and the shopping experience especially around the holidays is special downtown.

Doug and company at EB Horn are my go-to for watches and jewelry for my wife going back many years to our engagement and wedding rings. They are true experts and masters in their craft who also care deeply about their customers. They always provide a top notch experience and consistently go above and beyond. You ask and they deliver. The location is nothing short of iconic and the shop rich with historic charm full of classic and modern pieces for every taste and budget. If you're in the market for gems, this is the place to go.

I can't express how great my engagement ring shopping experience was with E.B. Horn and Doug! I'm nowhere near jewelry or ring savvy by any means, so this was an unfamiliar challenge I certainly hoped to have trusted guidance on, and got so much more. Doug was excellent from the start, educating me much further on the few basics I already knew, walked me through options as if he was a longtime friend or family member, asked me all the right questions, and made it all work for my situation to find the perfect ring for my now Fiancée! She absolutely loves it, and to my surprise with the help of Doug's professional and personal touch, I was truly confident that she would find it absolutely perfect. I've already recommended E.B. Horn to my close friends and family, and can say we will definitely be back!

Needed a special accommodation to get a ring and I couldn’t get in to see the final product which is always scary. Doug and the staff there took really good care of me, were completely available and reassuring to make sure I had no less an experience buying and got me everything I needed to make the moment count. I’m grateful to them and would recommend contacting them at any stage in the process to reassure someone that they’re going have a great experience and be happy with the result.

I've always wanted to experience the ring selection process at one of Boston's best jewelers. We were not disappointed. After looking at a few selections that I found from the website, the salesman pulled a ring from the show window that was a stunner! My beau immediately said that was the one :-) I will definitely go back for the matching earrings. Thank you for a great shopping experience!

Worked with Christine for son's engagement ring. She listens well, and considerate in all her advice. Worked on appraisal and son will also buy his wedding band from her.

My experience with E.B. Horn Jewelers in designing a custom engagement ring was absolutely outstanding, and I owe a huge thanks to Doug from E.B. Horn. His expertise, attention to detail, and commitment to bringing my vision to life were truly impressive. Doug listened attentively to my preferences and crafted a unique, stunning ring that perfectly symbolizes our love story. The quality and craftsmanship exceeded my expectations, and I am genuinely thrilled with the result. E.B. Horn, with Doug at the helm, has a remarkable talent for creating personalized, meaningful jewelry, and I couldn't be happier with my custom ring. His assistance made all the difference, and I'm truly grateful for his exceptional customer service.

Had 1 estate piece appraised by Norm at E.B. Horn Jewelers, he was incredibly knowledgeable, friendly and efficient. I did call a week prior as it is appointment only, availability was not a problem. Like their website says appraisals start at $140. My appraisal and checkout took about 20min with an emailed copy sent later that afternoon and a mailed copy. I would absolutely go back for jewelry appraisals and to shop!

Excellent service. They were able to identify a 50 year old wedding band that had been worn smooth over the years., And replace it with a new band. Thank you.

I can't say enough about E.B. Horn. Since the late 70's this is my go to jewelry store. My most recent purchase was wedding bands for our June 30th ceremony. We of course choose rose gold bands seeing my engagement ring is rose gold. I choose a simple band as not to take away from the beautiful detailing of the diamond. I must thank Richard for his assistant with the engagement ring. All of the staff are exceptionally experienced, pleasant and professional. Trisha and James Harrington

The associates at E.B. Horn provide excellent service every time I’ve visited. They’re kind and knowledgeable. I’ve switched a shorter chain for a longer one to go with a pendant I received for Christmas. I also got the same pendant repaired. I always leave E.B. Horn Jewelers happy.
