Balayage and coloring with Rima is amazing here - bonus is that she's great with Asian hair which is hard for me to find. Helpful and responsive staff, great quality service, and relaxing upscale environment. Would definitely come back!Services: Hair coloring

I asked for my hair to be blown out with volume. Motioned that I would like height with my hands. Told the stylist just to use conditioner on the ends because it would get too flat. And what did I get? Stick straight hair glued to my head. I caught the error about 1/2 thru the drying process so she used a curling iron but it was too late. Now it is $60 later (and I tipped her like a fool) and my hair is plastered on my head. And she managed to insult me in the process by telling me how fine my hair is. I have fine hair but a lot of it and a lot of body and curls. Now I am just pissed at the stylist and mad at myself for wasting my money.

Was honestly not going to leave a review as this happened a few weeks ago but now that I'm stuck correcting the "stylist" error with spending hundreds of dollars elsewhere I am going to leave a review. My issue is not with the salon itself. My issue is with Gwen, a stylist there. I just moved to town and have been trying to find a salon that works for me. I chose James Joseph at the W hotel because it was close to my apartment. (I previously went to another Boston salon that did a great job before but it was too far away). The reviews looked good and I checked out their page and it looked like they were capable of doing a highlight. So I went in and asked for a partial foil. When I sat down I told her I like my highlights a cooler tone and I wanted toned. She was not very friendly to start but that's fine, I had to work so that didn't bother me. I started noticing something was off with the highlights pretty early on and as someone who has been getting highlights for 15 years, though I am not a professional I kind of have an idea of what goes on in the highlighting process. I just decided to trust her process but when I saw myself in the mirror, it was clear my hair was BAD. I told her once she blow dried it that my hair was literally orange and didn't match the ends of my hair whatsoever. That's when she started to get super rude. She didn't want to admit she messed up. She took me over and toned me again. She literally had no clue what she was doing. She was literally googling toners to mix up. That would have been fine but after the toner my hair still was orange. I told her to just stop and she started getting really mean to me saying "maybe you shouldn't hop from stylist to stylist" she said, well I just moved here and don't really have an option. Another stylist over heard and saw me literally fighting back tears and apologized on her behalf. I got to the front and at check out, voiced my concerns to the check out guy. He brought another stylist over and she tried her best to tell Gwyen how to fix it. Gwen still couldn't admit she messed up and toned it again. At this point it was a little better, not super up to my standards and the highlights were clearly chunky but whatever, they tried. Obviously now the toner is fading out and my hair is ORANGE again. I'm just upset. I paid for the service, $220 because it's still a business and I'm not a bad person but I mine as well just set that $220 on fire because what a waste. I had to pay for a color correction at another salon for $500 to fix Gwen's mistake. Don't go to her! The other stylists seemed lovely and knew what they were doing but not her!

Enjoyed a lovely partial, toner and blowout by Cruz. She has a deft touch and a great eye for color. She used to do my hair five years ago and then I moved to Cape Cod. Her expertise is worth the drive in. Also, I appreciated the warm welcome and greetings at the door. Easy parking meters across the street. Thank you Cruz for unlocking my great hair again!Services: Hairstyling

Just a heads up, ms. Cruz from Debu ( the master colorist) is here at this location. She can turn a level 1-2-3-4 to a level 10. She is a master at her craft and will listen to your hair color needs. She does color correction ( if you have a mishap) So ladies with dark hair that wants to be blonde( platinum) without the brassy color. Then I recommend ms Cruz. I've trusted her with my Asian hair while I was her assistant!!! If you want conservative, you'll get it! If you want out of this world colors, you'll get!

I'm a longtime Aveda suburban salon customer ... I found myself in Boston in desperate need of a haircut. (Due to the pandemic I hadn't had a cut in 8 months.) This salon provided the perfect Covid-19 safety treatment along with professional handling. The stylist (Cruz) gave me a great cut and I left there feeling fabulous!!!

Second time at James Joseph. Qualified service always. I suggest making appointments with Morgan strongly. She is very sweet and professional. Helped me decide on the hairstyle. Perfect bang! Love it! Just a little bit pricey. Oh well, if you are changing your hairstyle in a big way, better to go to somewhere that can guarantee the quality.
