Their Italian sub is about as good as it gets. It starts with the bread, which is soft but has a nice chew to it. Then you have the perfect, thinly sliced pile of Italian cold cuts. What really makes it remarkable though is how well balanced it is. You taste the balsamic, but it isn't overpowering. You taste the hots and pickles, but they sit in the background. The lettuce and tomato are there, but they are complementary as opposed to dominating the sandwich. And, then there is the texture. With the cold cuts being so thinly sliced and the bread being nice and soft, every bite almost melts as you eat it. I'm not a believer in 'bigger is always better' when it comes to food, but it's also worth noting that their sandwiches are easily big enough to feed two people (or one professional athlete on a 5,000 calorie a day diet). I've had a number of things from this place, including several other sandwiches and their fresh pastas. Everything is good. Thanks Monica's Mercato for being awesome.

We went in on a Sunday morning at 10 AM and were the only people in line to get a sandwich. After reading about the Monica's Mercato having the best Italian grinder in the city, we had to make the trip. I was glad to see that they opened at 9:30 AM on Sunday morning. The deli is organized, very clean, and has the feel of being in a deli in Italy as they slice all of the meats fresh to order. The Italian was $20 plus tax and they only take cards for payment. The sandwich was stacked high with quality meats. The pickles and bread were homemade and the sandwich was worth the hype. The flavors all blended together perfectly. They have so many other sandwiches that I want to try so I will be back when I'm back in the area for lunch.

We tried this spot nestled in the North End a few times while on holiday. We tried most of the subs - Italian, steak tip, chicken cutlet and meatball. The service was super quick, kind and helpful with any questions. Inside there are a bunch of open counter salamis cheese and canned items to order from so you can take away with any hot food. Brought our family an Italian and it was the best they ever had - they shared they'll be making trips to Boston just for it.

What has happened to Monica's. They absolutely deserved their reputation for the best Italian sub in Boston, but today ... it was absolutely bland. Couldn't taste the hots, half-sour pickles instead of dill, almost no onion, tomato or balsamic flavor. Just dry and bland. Maybe due to ownership change?

The sandwich they give you is gigantic! I couldn’t eat anything for the rest of the day. They accept credit card but not Apple Pay.

We went here after a crappy experience at Dino's (threw my sub away because the dough was completely raw and inedible). I wish we'd gone to Monica's first! Honestly probably closer to a 4.5 but the sub was huge and the fillings were very generous. It's not as good as Ramona's in Portland (my favorite sub in the New England area), but it was really solid and I'd definitely go back.

Had high hopes, but didn't really get what I was hoping for. We ordered the chicken cutlet and Italian sandwiches on grubhub for pickup and left to get them once we saw the restaurant had acknowledged the order. When we arrived ~25 min later, the restaurant did not have our order nor did they recall receiving it. They were very kind about it and started working on it as quickly as they could, but it was an extra 20 minute wait while we were in a bit of a rush. The sandwiches themselves were pretty hefty, and my partner enjoyed the chicken cutlet sandwich but the Italian was on the salty side. I would still return to try the fresh pastas, but if picking up sandwiches, recommend calling ahead to ensure they're ready for pickup at the intended time!

This sub was epic. All of their subs come in one size and it's easily split between two people. We had the spicy chicken Parmesan with the vodka sauce and it was PHENOMENAL. We went a little bit later that evening on Sunday, so there wasn't a line to get a sub -- i know sometimes there are lines because of the popularity of this place but we lucked out. I definitely will be recommending this place to some friends!

The best service. Best product. Worth the wait. I go there every time I visit the north end.

The sandwiches live up to what we saw on Yelp! We had the Italian steak sandwich was amazing, would have loved to have more cheese but still Ana amazing sandwich and we had the prosciutto and Burrata hero that was the most amazing sandwiches I have ever had. We are from NY I wish we had a sandwich shop like Monica's here.

It is never too early for an Italian sandwich. Sub, panini, grinder, hero, whatever. Two pieces of bread, meat, and vegetables, with certain spreads to enhance the flavor. Apparently Monica's has the best in town. Each time I would pass by I would see a line out the door and beyond, going way down the street with customers. I guess that is saying something. Thankfully they open at 9 am and start preparing food as early as humanly possible. The sandwiches they have are not only about a foot and a half long, but are also piled about a foot and a half high. Four kinds of meat, olive oil, hot spread, and pickles (why, OH WHY?), along with the usual lettuce, tomato, and onion characters. As usual, no onion for me. This sandwich has so much potential to be much more than it is. Unfortunately, the bread is a bit too chewy (it does taste great though), and the pickles overtake the rest of the sandwich. Brine and brine from the hot spread ruin the taste and texture of the beautiful meats. The meats taste fresh and to get not one, not two, not three, but FOUR meats is impressive. I also like you get fresh tomatoes in the sandwich. They are red and do not have that day old taste and look from the supermarket. The sandwich also comes with layers of provolone cheese. This is a good choice. The sharpness of the cheese blends well with the savory meats. Bufala mozzarella or fresh mozzarella would work well with it as well, but they use provolone here and that is fine with me. Because it is in the North End, which has now become an enormous tourist trap, I can see why you have to come here early to get this. It is a sandwich that will leave you full for most of the day, leaving you quite satisfied. That being said, it is not as good as Parisi and Pisillo in New York, or J.P. Graziano in Chicago. It takes a bronze medal to those respective gold and silver beauties.

Go for the Italian sandwiches - several looked great, but we enjoyed the original. It's cut fresh, and big enough for two lunches. Otherwise, a small local market with craft beer and an Italian deli. Pizza and the chicken Parm didn't look great, but the Italian was probably the best of that style I've had.

This place has very high quality and authentic ingredients. Many of their items are actually imported directly from Italy. Small, nice atmosphere, and good food. The prices are quite high, and they don’t offer half subs, but you do get what you pay for.

Absolutely the best sandwiches. I think the fresh bread is one reason they are so good in addition to the expert thin slicing. Definitely sandwiches big enough to share.

Delicious (and large) caprese sandwich which I ate in Paul Revere park. Fun experience.
