A unique playscape in front of the Chinatown Gate; it's one acre and added in 2019. It's created on The Greenway in honor of Auntie Kay and husband, Uncle Frank Chin. They were Chinatown residents who were always trying to improve residents' lives.
The playscape has many holes for kids to climb into and a slide. It's placed on green turf. There were tulips planted nearby. A great spot to let the kids release some energy in Chinatown town. Also, a good people watching spot.

I go here very often after work. It's nice in the summer time when the waterfall gets turned on. The sound of running water is so peaceful to hear after a hard day at work. This place attracts many people, namely children. I get nervous to see them climbing the rocks because the area around it is made of stone and it's hard and not a safe place for children to play. It's also not encouraged for people to feed the birds because it attracts rats but of course no one listens.

Soft surface, two areas of blocks to climb, one accessing a slide. All plastic. Good for creativity and play. Benches and rocky surface to sit all along. Some tables nearby. Garbage and recycling. Not fenced in. In the sun most of the day. Next to a busy street.

I was catching a bus to Encore. Pretty mundane. Traffic signals worked and motorists obeyed. Busy intersection . I93 on and offramps

This is a beautiful section of the greenway. The bamboo garden is very peaceful and a nice place to sit and relax when out and about. There is also a small but unique playground for kids with climbing structures and a slide.

Chinatown Park is the former name for the Auntie Kay & Uncle Frank Chin Park, which runs along Surface Artery from the Chinatown gate on Beach Street towards Essex Street in the north. It's a thoughtful repurposing of what was once a ramp from what has always been an underground segment of the Central Artery but, if my childhood memories serve me straight, was really a big disused black hole for many years. The park is a contemporary interpretation of Chinese and Asian art and landscaping. There's a narrow but thoughtfully landscaped garden, concrete benches lining the curved walkway, a modern red gate at the north entrance, and a steel and metal sculpture that evokes a sampan. It's an inviting space for folks to sit and lounge around, plus there's plenty of signage to explain and help you appreciate the work and reasoning that went into the park's elements. A nice coda to the lovely stretch of green that's now the Rose Kennedy Greenway.
